Beberapa siswa telah berjuang untuk tampil dengan baik di lingkungan multikultural saat mereka ditugaskan untuk bekerja dalam kelompok. Untuk menjelaskan bagaimana siswa dapat tampil lebih efektif dalam kelompok yang beragam secara budaya, saya menggunakan teori kecerdasan budaya dan dimensi budaya individualisme-kolektivisme. Khususnya, penelitian kuantitatif ini berfokus pada pemahaman hubungan antara kecerdasan budaya individu dan persepsi efektivitas tim multikultural dengan memeriksa peran interaksi individualisme-kolektivisme dimensi budaya dan kecerdasan budaya. Saya berhipotesis bahwa semakin tinggi kecerdasan budaya seorang siswa, semakin tinggi persepsi akan efektivitas tim. Saya juga berhipotesis bahwa memiliki sifat kolektivis dimensi budaya kolektivisme membuat efek hubungan antara dimensi individualisme dan kolektivisme dan persepsi efektivitas tim semakin kuat secara positif. Terakhir, saya berhipotesis bahwa akan ada efek interaksi antara kecerdasan budaya dan dimensi kolektivisme yang mempengaruhi persepsi efektivitas tim. Studi ini meneliti hubungan ini melalui data survei yang dilaporkan sendiri di antara 103 siswa dalam berbagai jurusan dari fakultas ekonomi dan bisnis di Universitas Amsterdam. Dua hipotesis pertama didukung seperti yang diperkirakan, sementara hipotesis ketiga ditolak. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kecerdasan budaya individu dan sifat kolektif secara individual berkontribusi pada persepsi yang lebih tinggi tentang efektivitas tim multikultural. Some students have been struggling to perform well in a multicultural environment when they are assigned to work in a group. To explain how students can perform more effectively in a culturally diverse group, I draw on cultural intelligence theory and the individualism collectivism cultural dimension. Particularly, this quantitative research focuses on understanding the relationship between individual rsquo s cultural intelligence and the perception of multicultural team effectiveness by examining the interacting role of the individualism collectivism cultural dimension and cultural intelligence. I hypothesize that the higher a student rsquo s cultural intelligence, the higher the perception of team effectiveness. I also hypothesize that having collectivistic traits collectivism cultural dimension makes the relationship effect between individualism collectivism dimension and the perception of team effectiveness stronger positively. Lastly, I hypothesize that there will be an interaction effect between cultural intelligence and collectivism dimension that influence the perception of team effectiveness. This study examines this relationship through self reported survey data among 103 students in different majors from the faculty of economics and business at the University of Amsterdam. The first two hypotheses were supported as predicted, while the third hypothesis was rejected. The results suggest that individual rsquo s cultural intelligence and a collectivistic trait individually contribute to a higher perception of multicultural team effectiveness. However, a highly culturally intelligent student who has a collective trait does not necessarily contribute to a higher perception of team effectiveness than a highly culturally intelligent student who has an individualistic trait. Additional elaboration is explored, and the implications of the findings are discussed with practical suggestions for higher education institutions.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengalaman diplomasi sains peneliti dalam suatu kolaborasi riset internasional dan bagaimana pengalaman tersebut terkait dengan model kecerdasan kultural dari Thomas 2006 dan tiga kualitas Mindfulness dari Kaufman dan Hwang 2015 . Studi Analisis Fenomenologi Interpretatif dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam dengan empat informan yang terlibat dalam sebuah kolaborasi penelitian internasional yang disebut Innovative Bio-Production Indonesia atau iBioI . Data penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam melaksanakan kerja sama riset internasional informan menghadapi tantangan dan hambatan komunikasi yang disebabkan oleh perbedaan budaya. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat manifestasi kecerdasan kultural pada diri informan, walau dalam taraf yang berbeda-beda. Perbedaan tersebut dapat ditelusuri dari perbedaan manifestasi komponen kualitas kecerdasan kultural, yaitu pengetahuan antarbudaya, perhatian, dan keterampilan antarbudaya pada diri informan. Studi ini juga menjelaskan pola dalam suatu kolaborasi riset yang mindful dan empat fungsi kecerdasan kultural dalam komunikasi antarbudaya dalam konteks diplomasi sains. Keterbatasan penelitian ini adalah penelitian ini hanya mengambil data dari peneliti Indonesia dan hanya meneliti kolaborasi di bidang ilmu hayati saja. Penelitian ini telah mampu menunjukkan bukti empiris bahwa kecerdasan kultural juga dapat membantu peneliti dalam situasi antar budaya. Selain itu, penelitian ini mendukung pernyataan penelitian sebelumnya mengenai peran penting mindfulness dalam menerjemahkan pengetahuan budaya ke dalam keterampilan antarbudaya. Penelitian ini diharapkan bisa menjadi panduan bagi kolaborasi penelitian internasional lainnya. Pengembangan kecerdasan kultural pada peneliti diharapkan bisa mewujudkan tujuan diplomasi sains yang membantu memperkuat hubungan antar negara.
The purpose of this article is to find out how the researcher experience science diplomacy in an international research collaboration and how the experience is linked to the cultural intelligence model from Thomas 2006 and three qualities of Mindfulness from Kaufman and Hwang 2015 . An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis study conducted with in depth interviews with four informants involved in an international research collaboration called Innovative Bio Production Indonesia or iBioI . Research data shows that in carrying out an international research collaboration informants face the challenges and communication barriers caused by cultural differences. This study shows that there are manifestations of cultural intelligence in informants, even at various levels. This distinction can be traced from the components of cultural intelligence, i.e. Intercultural knowledge, mindfulness, and intercultural skills. This study also explains the mindful collaborative research patterns and the four functions of cultural intelligence in intercultural communication in the context of science diplomacy. The limitation of this study is to only take data from the Indonesian researchers and examine only collaboration in the field of natural science. This research has been able to show empirical evidence that cultural intelligence can also help researchers in an intercultural situation. In addition, this study supports the previous research statement on the critical role of mindfulness in translating cultural knowledge into intercultural skills. This research is also able to show the pattern of mindful collaborative research and the function of mindfulness in an international research collaboration. This research is expected to be a guide for another international research collaborations. The development of cultural intelligence on a researcher is expected to realize the goal of science diplomacy that helps strengthen the relationship between countries.

This study has explored the role of cultural intelligence as a mediator in the relationship between the openness to experience personality trait and job satisfaction among expatriates. Expatriates were required to fill up online questionnaires to measure all the three variables. This study used a regression and bootstrapping analysis to test the hypothesis in a sample of 265 expatriates. The result indicates that the variance in job satisfaction accountable to the openness to experience personality trait is fully mediated through cultural intelligence. This finding provides evidence that possessing cultural intelligence acts as a mechanism in which an open expatriate could feel satisfied with his or her job. Moreover, this study discusses the practical implications especially for multinational companies and suggests some future research directions.

Penelitian ini meneliti dampak dari peran kecerdasan budaya sebagai mediator dalam hubungan antara kepribadian openness to experience terhadap kepuasan kerja ekspatriat. Ekspatriat mengisi kuesioner secara online untuk mengukur ketiga variabel. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis regresi dan bootstrapping untuk menguji hipotesis dari 265 ekspatriat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kecerdasan budaya dapat memediasi dalam hubungan antara kepribadian openness to experience terhadap kepuasan kerja secara penuh. Hal itu berarti bahwa kecerdasan budaya adalah suatu mekanisme yang berperan pada ekspatriat yang memiliki kepribadian openness to experience untuk merasakan puas dengan pekerjaannya. Selain itu, penelitian ini membahas implikasi praktis terutama untuk perusahaan multinasional dan menyarankan beberapa penelitian selanjutnya.
