......Demonstrations against UU Cipta Kerja became the main focus in the mass media coverage in October 2020. The demonstration against UU Cipta Kerja was shown through visualizing the dynamics of violence and conflict in mass media reporting, giving rise to a negative perspective on the implementation of the demonstration. In the protest paradigm this is explained as a pattern of media coverage that focuses on highlighting contexts outside of the main issue of conducting demonstrations. Furthermore, in the perspective of visual criminology, the visual representation of the implementation of the demonstration indicates visuality to cover up violence by the state which in this context is violence perpetrated by the police as the official state control apparatus. To analyze this context, the author conducted a qualitative visual analysis of the visual data collected from reports on demonstrations against UU Cipta Kerja during October 2020 around 142 visual data alongside caption that is included below. It can further be concluded that the visual representation of the demonstration shows unlawful acts and deviations in visuality of demonstrators and on the other hand can cover up the forms of violence carried out by the police as an official controlling apparatus. The demonstration was then attached to a negative image and was judged as a futile act.

Is there more to qualitative data collection than face-to-face interviews? Answering with a resounding 'yes', this book introduces the reader to a wide array of exciting and novel techniques for collecting qualitative data in the social and health sciences. Collecting Qualitative Data offers a practical and accessible guide to textual, media and virtual methods currently under-utilised within qualitative research. Contributors from a range of disciplines share their experiences of implementing a particular technique, provide step-by-step guidance to using that approach, and highlight both the potential and pitfalls. From gathering blog data to the story completion method to conducting focus groups online, the methods and data types featured in this book are ideally suited to student projects and other time- and resource-limited research. In presenting several innovative ways that data can be collected, new modes of scholarship and new research orientations are opened up to student researchers and established scholars alike.

Criminology is a booming discipline, but at the same time it is also deeply divided. This rich and diverse collection of essays addresses the key questions at the heart of the debate. What is criminology for? What is the impact of criminology? How should criminology be done? What are the key issues and debates in criminology today? What challenges does the discipline of criminology face? How has criminology as a discipline changed over the last few decades? Addressing all of these questions in 34 essays by some of the world's leading scholars, this volume reveals the deep fissures that threaten this vibrant discipline. There is disagreement over methodological issues - how best to conduct research. The subject matter and aims of the discipline are contested as traditional boundaries are tested and breached. At the same time there has been a narrowing of the terms of debate more generally as numerous new journals have been established for the various constituent subfields of the broader discipline. All of these factors give the impression that criminology is fragmenting at the precise moment that, as a discipline, it is so energetic and successful. Examining the nature of criminology and the current state of the field, the contributors outline their sense of and ambition for future development, challenging the discipline to be more reflective. Above all, it provides a record of the shape of the field at the close of the first decade of the new millennium.
