"Di dalam khazanah kesusastraan dunia, terutama di Rusia Anton Pavlovich Chekhov dikenal sebagai cerpenis, namun demikian ia lebih dikenal sebagai seorang dramaturg di luar negeri Chekhov telah memberikan warna tersendiri bagi kepengarangan kesusastraan Rusia 19. Kebun Ceri adalah sebuah drama komedi yang merupakan karya terakhir yang pernah ditulis Chekhov; menggambarkan sebuah situasi di mana sedang terjadi suatu perubahan dalam kehidupan sosial yang menyiratkan suatu kebangkitan dari sebuah cita-cita yang telah runtuh.Skripsi ini bertujuan menganalisis komedi ini melalui unsur tokoh dan penokohan, yang sekaligus menggambarkan sejauh manakah unsur-unsur yang tersirat tentang kondisi sosial yang bersangkutan. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ia adalah deskripsi dan analisis. Chekhov secara halus menggambarkan runtunan masalah dari suatu kondisi sosial pada masa berakhirnya zaman semi feodal tuan tanah pemilik perkebunan di Rusia. Adapun karya ini merupakan tonggak batas waktu di mana peralihan sedang terjadi. Chekhov menggambarkan tentang kehidupan yang penuh harapan dan mengucapkan selamat tinggal pada masa yang baru."
