"Film Suspiria (2018) merupakan film buatan ulang bergenre horor yang disutradarai oleh Luca Guadagnino. Film dengan genre horor harus dapat memberikan emosi takut serta tegang pada penonton. Namun, arahan cerita yang menguak sosok penyihir dan minimnya kehadiran hantu serta monster mengurangi aspek yang memberikan emosi takut serta tegang pada penonton. Luca Guadagnino beserta Inbal Weinberg selaku desainer produksi dari film membuat latar memiliki kesan lebih realistis dan juga mencekam. Latar sendiri menjadi sebuah konteks untuk kegiatan yang terjadi pada film dan dengan kondisi tersebut latar menjadi sebuah place. Kondisi ini menjadikan adanya karakteristik fisik pada latar sebagai pembentuk identitas place itu sendiri. Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis keterhubungan karakter fisik pada latar film Suspiria dalam menciptakan emosi yang dibutuhkan oleh film bergenre horor. Hasil analisis penelitian ini adalah latar ruang pada film Suspiria (2018) memiliki kualitas ruang yang dapat memicu emosi yang dibutuhkan pada film horor.

The film Suspiria (2018) is a horror genre film directed by Luca Guadagnino. Film having horror as its genre should create fear and tense as emotions to its audience. The directing of the story that revealed the witches and minimum use of ghosts and monsters took away some of the aspects that might create fear and tense in the film. Luca Guadagnino with Inbal Weinberg as the film’s production designer created the settings for the film to have more eeriness to it. Film’s setting itself gives context to the action that is happening throughout the movie and that condition creates the setting as a place. Settings, being a place, have physical settings that are part of components in creating identity of a place. This thesis focuses on the analysis of connections between physical character of the film’s settings in creating emotions needed for the horror genre. The results of this study show that the settings in the film Suspiria (2018) have some of the spatial qualities that are able to create necessary emotions."
