"Jean Baudrillard mengungkapkan bahwa fungsi konsumsi dalam masyarakat adalah sebuah elemen struktural dalam hubungan sosial. Konsumsi bukan hanya sebagai alat untuk memenuhi kebutuhan, namun juga untuk membedakan diri. Ia menganggap bahwa konsumsi merupakan inti dari ekonomi, sehingga objek konsumsi mengatur masyarakat. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sumbangan informasi mengenai fenomena masyarakat konsumsi yang terlihat melalui menjamurnya gerai 7-11 atau Seven Eleven yang terjadi dewasa ini dengan menggunakan pemikiran Jean Baudrillard sebagai landasan untuk mengungkapkan pergeseran yang terjadi dalam struktur masyarakat, yang disebut sebagai masyarakat simulasi dan hiperrealitas.

Jean Baudrillard stated that the function of consumption in society is a structural element in social relation. Consumption, not only as a tool to meet the needs, but also to differentiate one self.He assumes that consumption is the core of the economy,therefor the object of consumption is controlling the society.This article aims to provide information about the consumer society phenomenonthat is seen through the proliferation of outlets 7/11 or Seven Eleven that is happening today, using Jean Baudrillard thinking as a foundation to analyze modernism, to reveal the shifts that occur in the structure of society, which is referred to as the simulation and hyperreality.Behavioral tendencies of modern consumerist society and the examples isdescribed in this article."
