[Teori ideologi Althusser yang telah selalu menginterpelasi individu sebagai subjek kerap dipandang sebagai sebuah pesimisme, hal itu karena subjek dibiarkan tenggelam dalam relasi sosialnya untuk terus melanggengkan kapitalisme. Meskipun demikian, pengertian ideologi yang sangat ekstrim tersebut sebetulnya hanya dapat dipahami secara utuh melalui konsep Althusser sebelumnya, yaitu overdeterminasi, di mana ideologi yang terletak pada dimensi suprastruktur juga dapat mempengaruhi basis. Dengan cara seperti itu maka teori ideologi Althusserian dapat dibaca secara lebih positif, bahwa overdeterminasi memungkinkan untuk menciptakan interpelasi diferensial. ...... , Althusser's theory of ideology that has always interpellated the individual as a subject is often seen as a pessimism, it is because the subject is allowed to settle in social relation to continue perpetuating capitalism.
