ABSTRAKRumah adalah salah satu tema paling menonjol dalam sastra anak-anak dalam memperoleh dan menemukan kembali identitas mereka. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menganalisis bagaimana pembebasan rumah dicapai oleh Max, protagonis dari buku bergambar anak-anak terkenal Maurice Sendak "Where the Wild Things Are", melalui perjalanan chronotopic-nya; berdasarkan pada teori chronotope Mikhail Bakhtin di mana keterkaitan waktu dan ruang dimanifestasikan dalam bentuk agensi manusia. Kronotop utama yang digunakan adalah mikronotron dengan kronotop ambang yang lebih besar, yaitu: mimpi dan kronotop melingkar. Kedua chronotop ini bermanfaat untuk kontribusinya yang signifikan terhadap perjalanan melingkar Max dalam mengejar rumah, agen Max dalam kaitannya dengan kronotop menjadi jelas, dream chronotope berfungsi sebagai sarana untuk melepaskan dominasi Max di dunia mimpi di mana sama sekali berbeda dari dunia nyata. Sementara itu, kronotop sirkular dimanifestasikan dalam keputusan Max untuk kembali ke rumah setelah kesadaran yang tiba-tiba. Rumah bagi Max akhirnya adalah ketika dia memiliki seseorang dengan perhatian dan cinta abadi untuknya, ibunya, yang akan memberinya jaminan rutin atas kebutuhan utamanya.
ABSTRACTHome is one of the most prominent themes in children literature in acquiring and reinventing their identities. As such, the research analyzed how the acquition of home is attained by Max, the protagonist of Maurice Sendak`s renowned children picture book `Where the Wild Things Are`, through his chronotopic journey; based on Mikhail Bakhtin theory of chronotope in which the interconectedness of time and space are manifested in a form of human agency. The major chronotope in use will be that of microchronotopes of larger chronotope of threshold, those of: dream and circular chronotopes. These two chronotopes are of use for its significant contribution to Max‟s circular voyage in the pursuit of home, Max agency in regard to the chronotopes is becoming evident, dream chronotope serves as a means to unleash Max`s dominance in the dream world in which entirely different from the real world. Meanwhile, the circular chronotope manifested in Max`s decision to return back home after a sudden realization. Home to Max at last is when he has someone with undying care and love for him, that of his mother, who will provide him with regular assurance of his primary needs.
