"Dewasa ini, fatherhood menjadi faktor yang penting untuk dikaji. Fatherhood memiliki efek yang positif bagi sang ayah itu sendiri maupun bagi anak-anaknya. Korea yang terkenal dengan patriarkinya kini mulai memasuki era ‘fatherhood baru’. Tulisan ini membahas fatherhood yang ada pada tokoh Hong Dae Young dalam drama 18 Again. 18 Again merupakan drama yang bertema cinta kasih keluarga. Bercerita tentang pasangan Hong Dae Young dan Jung da Jung yang bercerai dan memiliki sepasang anak kembar laki-laki dan perempuan. Hong Dae Young sebagai fokus utama penelitian, merupakan seorang suami dan ayah yang baik bagi istri serta anak-anaknya. Namun, istri dan anak-anaknya salah paham akan sikap Hong Dae Young. Oleh karenanya, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan fatherhood[1] yang ada pada tokoh Hong Dae Young dalam drama 18 Again. Penulis menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dalam penelitiannya. Data dianalisis dengan teori Semiotika Roland Barthes dan teori penokohan untuk melihat fatherhood Hong Dae Young dan pandangan istri serta anak-anaknya terhadapnya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa karakter tokoh Hong Dae Young dalam drama 18 Again telah menjadi sosok ‘ayah’ baru yang mulai menjadi identitas era kontemporer ini. Hong Dae Young tidak hanya sebagai pencari nafkah, tetapi telah secara sadar ikut hadir dalam pengasuhan anak. Hong Dae Young melalui tokoh Ko Woo Young juga menjadi ayah yang penuh kehangatan dan perhatian, dan memasuki ranah domestik. Pergeseran tren fatherhood ini juga diharapkan menjadi salah satu cara untuk mencapai kesetaraan gender

Nowadays, fatherhood is an important factor to be studied. Fatherhood has a positive effect on both the father himself and his children. Korea, which is famous for its patriarchy, is now entering the 'new fatherhood' era. This paper studies the fatherhood of Hong Dae Young's character in the drama 18 Again. 18 Again is a drama with the theme of family. This drama tells the story of a couple Hong Dae Young and Jung da Jung who are divorced and have a pair of twin boys and girls. Hong Dae Young as the main focus of research, is a husband and a good father to his wife and children. However, his wife and children misunderstand Hong Dae Young's attitude. Therefore, this study aims to describe the fatherhood on Hong Dae Young’s character in the drama. This research used a qualitative descriptive research method. The data were analyzed using Roland Barthes' Semiotics theory and characterization theory to see Hong Dae Young's fatherhood and the views of his wife and children towards him. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the character Hong Dae Young in the drama 18 Again has become a new 'father' figure which is found in this contemporary era. Hong Dae Young is not only a breadwinner, but has been invloved child rearing. Hong Dae Young through the character of Ko Woo Young also became a warm and caring father, and engaged more actively in domestic domain. The shift in the fatherhood trend is also expected to be one way to achieve gender equality."
