"Sekolah merupakan lingkungan yang dialami oleh anak setiap hari. Lingkungan ini merupakan produk perancangan arsitektur yang dibuat oleh orang dewasa untuk anak. Dalam rangka mendukung pendekatan perancangan yang berorientasi pada kebutuhan pemakai (user-oriented), penelitian ini bermaksud mengungkapkan persepsi anak terhadap lingkungan sekolah melalui analisis gambaran visual tentang lingkungan sekolah yang selama ini dialaminya dan lingkungan sekolah yang diinginkannya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan beragam cara pandang yang digambarkan oleh anak, yang dapat menjadi masukan berharga bagi proses perancangan lingkungan yang berorientasi pada kebutuhan anak."

"Anak usia sekolah dasar merupakan individu yang mengalami perkembangan secara fisik, kognitif, social dan emosional. Sekolah memiliki peranan penting di dalam perkembangan anak, sebagai lembaga pendidikan formal tempat anak mempelajari tugas-tugas perkembangannya. Dalam tulisan ini penulis mengadakan studi tipologi ruang fungsional untuk menentukan tipe mang kegiatan belajar anak, dengan melihat bagaimana berlangsungnya kegiatan belajar anak. Tipe mang kegiatan belajar anak ditentukan oleh adanya anak dan guru (omng dewasa) sebagai subyek-subyek dalam kegiatan belajar, serta komunikasi yang berlangsung antara anak, guru dan obyek-obyek belajar. Kegiatan belajar mengandung pengertian yang lugs, yang mencakup aspek perkembangan fisik, kognitif, sosial dan emosional. QIeh karena itu, maka ruang kegiatan belajar jugs memiMd pengertian yang lugs, dan sekolah harus dapat berpemn sebagai sebuah kesatuan ruang-ruang kegiatan belajar dalam pengertian yang luas tersebut. Analisis yang penulis lakukan terhadap pembakuan bangunan sekolah dasar di Indonesia menunjukkan bahwa sekolah dasar di Indonesia masih memandang kegiatan belajar hanya sebatas kegiatan belajar yang berlangsung secara klasikal di dalam ruang kelas, bukan kegiatan belajar dalam pengertian yang luas."

Assessment of housing quality tends to be based on the physical indicators of the housing environment with less attention to the occupants? understanding of housing quality. This study explores the housing quality from the point of view of the occupants especially in relation to the concept of ?healthy housing?. A structured interview wasconducted with a number of occupants living in high-density urban housing in order to reveal their understanding of the?healthy housing? concept. The study found the existence of a gap between the occupant?s perception of the healthyhousing quality and the factual physical condition of their housing. The occupants tend to evaluate their housing as having good quality, despite the facts found from the observation that some physical requirements of ?healthy housing? have not been satisfied yet in most houses. This understanding of ?healthy housing? is primarily related to the aspect ofcleanliness, while other aspects of healthiness do not seem to get enough attention. These findings become the basis ofthe discussion on the extent to which the perspective of the occupants should be incorporated in developing programmes for urban housing quality improvement. "

"This paper addresses the challenges in developing design ideas of learning environment for primary school children that could promote creativity. In particular it illustrates how the boxes as simple three dimensional objects could be constructed into a system that offers various possibilities of utilization for learning activities. The possible arrangements of boxes and the possible utilization of their surfaces were investigated through a series of creative workshop with children, in which they explored different ways of constructing the arrangement of boxes and using them for their activities. The possibilities offered by the arrangement of boxes and their surfaces indicate the importance of understanding the presence of objects in space not as an independent entity but as a part of the whole spatial system. It suggests that learning environment essentially needs to be designed as an integrated system of learning spaces and objects that together could promote creative learning."
