Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan keberfungsian keluarga sebagai prediktor terhadap gejala depresi remaja. Keberfungsian keluarga menurut Teori McMaster ialah kemampuan keluarga untuk menyediakan lingkungan yang efektif bagi perkembangan, fisik maupun psikis, anggotanya. Keberfungsian keluarga diukur dengan kuesioner Family Assessment Device FAD . Gejala depresi pada penelitian ini merupakan gejala depresif inti pada ranah suasana hati dan perasaan yang diukur dengan Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire SMFQ . Responden penelitian merupakan remaja berusia 13-21 tahun. Teknik analisis statistik yang digunakan ialah linear regression. Analisa statistik tambahan dilakukan dengan mengontrol variabel jenis kelamin dan riwayat gangguan psikologis orangtua. Hasil penelitian dengan 488 responden menunjukkan keberfungsian keluarga sebagai prediktor signifikan berkontribusi sebesar 25 terhadap gejala depresi. Beberapa dimensi yang berperan sebagai prediktor secara signifikan ialah dimensi komunikasi, dimensi respon afektif, dimensi keterlibatan afektif, dan dimensi kontrol perilaku.

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to examine the role of family functioning as predictor for depressive symptoms in adolescent. Family rsquo s major function, based on McMaster Theory, is to provide the most effective settings for the member rsquo s development. The variable of family functioning by McMaster was measured with Family Assessment Device FAD and the variable of depressive symptoms was measured with Short Mood and Feelings Questionanire SMFQ . Respondents of this study were 488 adolescents with age from 13 to 21. The statistic techniques used to process the data was linear regression. Additional analyses was conducted by controlling the variable of sex and parents rsquo history of psychological disorder. The results revealed that family functioning has a significant role as predictor and contributes 25 to depressive symptoms in adolescent. Some of the dimensions of family functioning with significant role as predictor are communication, affective responsiveness, affective involvement, and behavior control.
