"Tesis ini membahas kontruksi Muslim Childhood dalam Bacaan anak Muslim Indonesia terpilih tahun 2018 menggunakan konsep Muslim Childhood (Al-Ghazali dalam Abdurrahman 2015, dan Scourfield, dkk. 2013). Alih-alih sebagai medium imajinasi, sastra anak kerap dijadikan alat pengajaran dan penyampai pesan moral. Melalui bacaan anak, orang dewasa berupaya menyisipkan pandangan serta nilai-nilai tertentu agar terbentuk masa kanak-kanak (childhood) secara ideal, termasuk idealisasi masa kanak-kanak berbasis ajaran Islam atau Muslim childhood. Hal ini diimplementasikan dalam bentuk narasi dan ilustrasi 18 buku anak Muslim terpilih yang diterbitkan di Indonesia pada 2018. Figur anak yang saleh, peran tokoh orang dewasa sebagai inisiator, serta eksplisitnya nilai-nilai keislaman yang dihadirkan mengungkap bagaimana kesalehan sebagai idealisasi Muslim childhood dikonstruksi secara langsung dan deskriptif. Mayoritas isi buku juga berfokus pada penyampaian pesan dibandingkan alur cerita. Kecenderungan tematik ini pada akhirnya memperlihatkan pandangan masing-masing penerbit terhadap ajaran Islam dalam setiap teksnya, yaitu memosisikan anak sebagai figur yang perlu dibina alih-alih diberikan kebebasan untuk menentukan pilihannya sendiri. Namun, nilai-nilai keislaman dalam teks-teks dari berbagai penerbit tersebut sebenarnya bersifat universal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kecenderungan bacaan anak sebagai penyampai pesan ideal orang dewasa secara eksplisit dan menggurui masih mendominasi narasi teks serial anak Muslim di Indonesia tahun 2018 dari yang seharusnya sebagai medium imajinasi anak sebagai pembacanya.

This thesis discusses the construction of Muslim Childhood in selected Indonesian Muslim children’s literature in 2018 using the concept of Muslim Childhood (Al-Ghazali in Abdurrahman 2015, and Scourfield, et al. 2013). Instead of being a medium of imagination, children's literature is often used as a teaching tool and a messenger of morals. Through children's book, adults try to insert certain views and values ​​in order to form an ideal childhood, including the idealization of childhood based on Islamic teachings or Muslim childhood. This is implemented in the form of narratives and illustrations of 18 selected Muslim children's books published in Indonesia in 2018. The figures of pious children, the role of adult figures as initiators, and the explicitness of Islamic values ​​presented reveal how piety as an idealization of Muslim childhood is directly constructed. and descriptive. The majority of the book's content also focuses on delivering the message rather than the storyline. This thematic tendency ultimately shows the views of each publisher on Islamic teachings in each of their texts, namely placing children as figures who need to be nurtured instead of being given the freedom to make their own choices. However, Islamic values ​​in the texts of these various publishers are actually universal. The results of the study show that the tendency of children's reading as an explicit and patronizing ideal messenger for adults still dominates the narrative text of serial texts for Muslim children in Indonesia in 2018 than it should be as a medium for children's imagination as readers."
