Skripsi ini mengkaji tentang pengalaman penyakit yang terjadi pada colorectal cancer survivor khususnya perjalanan penyakit kankernya ketika dimulai dari saat gejala-gejala muncul dan dirasakan hingga pada saat masa pemulihan. Pengalaman penyakit tersebut kemudian diterjemahkan ke dalam konsep-konsep penyakit atau maladies yaitu disease, illness, sickness, dan sick role. Pengalaman penyakit tersebut diurutkan ke dalam suatu tahapan sakit yang telah dirancang oleh Edward Suchman. Kemudian penelitian berfokus pada gangguan-gangguan dan gejala-gejala yang muncul pada saat ostomate berada dalam tahapan sakit dan bagaimana para ostomate ini menghadapi gangguan-gangguan yang terjadi pada dirinya khususnya setelah mereka memakai kantong stoma. Penelitian melihat keputusan dan upaya apa saja yang dilakukan oleh ostomate untuk menanggulangi penyakitnya dan juga melihat bagaimana respon lingkungan sosial terhadap ostomate yang semuanya dilihat melalui kacamata ostomate sendiri. ABSTRACT
This thesis examines about experiencing the maladies which is happened on colorectal cancer survivors especially the journey of the cancer itself, starting from the phase when the symptoms are being felt until recovery phase. Afterwards the maladies experiences translated into the concept of maladies, such as disease, illness, sickness, and sick role. The maladies experiences are being constructed into ?sequences in sickness experiences? by Edward Suchman. This thesis also focuses on disturbances and symptoms that happened when the ostomates were in the sequences in sickness experiences and focuses on how the ostomates deal and face the disturbances on them, including the phase after the surgery and using colostomy bag. This thesis explains the decisions and what they do to cope and heal the maladies, also explains on how the social responses to the ostomates within the ostomates‟ perspective themselves. The research uses qualitative method with narative research approach
