Abstrak :
Visual communications services are now making a significant impact on modern society. Videoconferencing, HDTV and Multimedia are just examples where this technology is being used to good effect. Communicating using video signals does, however, require a large volume of data to be transmitted, and even with modern high-bandwidth communication links this can be expensive. This requires the implementation of efficient image or video coding and compression schemes. This paper presents image compression schemes using wavelet transform. This paper also highlights the importance of the four most desirable characteristics for use in digital signal processing, namely orthonormality, compactness, regularity or smoothness and symmetry or anti-symmetry. Some of these characteristics are mutually exclusive and require design compromise. From the simulation results it can be seen that for equal total length of the analysis (decomposition) and synthesis (reconstruction) filters, biorthonormal wavelets performs much better than the ortlionormal wavelet (i.e. asymmetrical wavelets). This performance is not only in terms of a higher WPSNR but also in terms of the quality of reconstructed image.

Pendeteksian wajah manusia merupakan proses dasar dari aplikasi yg lebih luas. Salah satu metodenya adalah pemanfaatan informasi warna. Sebuah model warna kulit yg merepresentasikan warna kulit manusia dibuat utk mensegmentasi skin region dan non skin region dlm gambar berwarna. Tiga persyaratan di terapkan utk menyeleksi skin region yg mempresentasikan wajah manusia (jumlah lubang dlm satu region, rasio tinggi terhadap lebar region dan koefesien korelasi siang antara region dengantemplete face).Makalah ini mensimulasikan deteksi wajah manusia dengan menggunakan segmentasi dan templete matching .Hasil simulasi menunjukan bahwa skin region yaitu jumlah lubang ,rasio tinggi terhadap lebar dan korelasi region dengan templete,ketiganya berperan cukup baik,sedangkan keberhasilan deteksi sangat tergantung pd proses sebelumnya yaitu segmentasi.

Abstrak :
This paper discuss fractal application on image compression using the method cf quadtree partitioning as a determiner of the best domain-range. In order to study further on this matter, simulation is done with some parameters, i.e a variety of tolerance, quadtree partitioning level and number of iteration.
Analysis is done toward performance (PSNR and compression ratio) of each parameters. From the analysis can be determined some levels of quadtree partitioning tolerance and number of iteration use to produced a good image in the decompression process.
