"Volume XV offers a number of research streams that have grown out of the seminal work by Zdzislaw Pawlak. The 4 contributions included in this volume presents a rough set approach in machine learning, the introduction of multi-valued near set theory, the advent of a complete system that supports a rough-near set approach to digital image analysis, and an exhaustive study of the mathematics of vagueness."

"This study differs from previous studies by applying multivariate statistical analysis and multi-criterion decision-making methods to the improvement of service quality. We use the rough set theory (RST) with a flow graph approach to determine customer attitudes regarding service quality, which can assist managers in developing strategies to improve service quality and thus satisfy the needs of customers. A set of rules is derived from a large sample of airline customers, and its predictive ability is evaluated. The flow graph and the cause-and-effect relationship of the decision rules are heavily exploited in service quality characteristics. As compared with the results of other data-mining analyses, our results are encouraging. This study demonstrates that the combination of the RST model and flow graphs assists in identifying the needs of customers, determining their characteristics, and facilitating the development of an improvement strategy.

"Discrete Convex Analysis is a novel paradigm for discrete optimization that combines the ideas in continuous optimization (convex analysis) and combinatorial optimization (matroid/submodular function theory) to establish a unified theoretical framework for nonlinear discrete optimization. The study of this theory is expanding with the development of efficient algorithms and applications to a number of diverse disciplines like matrix theory, operations research, and economics. This self-contained book is designed to provide a novel insight into optimization on discrete structures and should reveal unexpected links among different disciplines. It is the first and only English-language monograph on the theory and applications of discrete convex analysis."

This final project is a continuity of previous research about angle estimation with the same main concept: with reference data in some intervals, new reference data with smaller intervals was made with the use of interpolation, and distances between testing data and all reference data was calculated, the reference data with the closest distance was the algorithm?s estimation (Sanabila, 2008). Differences made were the use of average data (crisp data) and fuzzy data for each angle as reference data, differences in PCA algorithm, and the use of control point placement in quadratic bezier interpolation.
Experiment scenarios were divided into two main schemes based on the intervals of the data set, the first one was an experiment scheme with the same data set intervals with previous research and another one was experiment scheme with smaller intervals. Data manipulation with noise addition have also been done in some experiment schemes.
Some of the Conclusions were: use of average data was more efficient than one data for each picture, the use of PCA gave better result than experiments without PCA, experiments with average data gave better result than with fuzzy data, noise addition to data did not effect the recognition rate of the algorithm for experiments with average data (crisp), control point placement gave better result in experiments with average data.

An=((a1,?,an):a1,?,an e k) .

Given an algebraically closed field k and a positive integer n, we define the n-dimensional affine space over k to be the set An= ((a1,?,an):a1,?,ane k) . An irreducible algebraic curve on the affine plane A2 is defined by f(x,y) = 0 where f is a nonconstant irreducible polynomial. Some of these curves can be parameterized as rational functions, and this parameterization is a simpler form of a rational map between two irreducible algebraic curves. If this map has an inverse rational map, it becomes a special relation called birational equivalence and we say that the two curves are birational. This map and relation can also be defined on irreducible closed subsets of An, the generalized form of irreducible algebraic curves. This skripsi studies the sufficient and necessary condition for the two irreducible algebraic curves, or in general two irreducible closed sets, to be birational by exhibiting the proof that for irreducible closed sets XcAn and YcAm, X and Y are birational if and only if their field of rational functions, k(x) and k(y), are isomorphic over k. "his book provides a solution to “rare event” problems without using the classical theory of reliability and theory of probability. This solution is based on the methodology of risk assessment as “measure of danger” (in keeping with the ICS RAS) and an expert approach to determining systems’ safety indications using Fuzzy Sets methods. Further, the book puts forward a new concept: “Reliability, Risks, and Safety” (RRS).
The book’s main goal is to generalize present results and underscore the need to develop an alternative approach to safety level assessment and risk management for technical (aviation) systems in terms of Fuzzy Sets objects, in addition to traditional probabilistic safety analysis (PSA). The concept it proposes incorporates ICAO recommendations regarding proactive system control and the system’s responses to various internal and external disturbances. "
