[This text provides an analysis and investigation of the most essential areas of environmental theory and policy, including international environmental problems. The approach is based on standard theoretical tools, in particular equilibrium analysis, and aims to demonstrate how economic principles can help to understand environmental issues and guide policymakers. Current topics including climate change, overfishing and integrated approaches to environmental policies are carefully analyzed in this framework, and a multitude of practical examples from various parts of the world is presented., This text provides an analysis and investigation of the most essential areas of environmental theory and policy, including international environmental problems. This book analyzes why tackling many of these problems is so difficult and why sustainability involves more than adoption of greener, cleaner technologies. Sustainability, as discussed in this book, involves knowledge flows and collaborative decision processes that integrate scientific and technological methods and tools, political and governance structures and regimes, and social and community values. The authors synthesize a holistic and adaptive approach to rethinking the framework for restoring healthy ecosystems that are the foundation for thriving communities and dynamic economies.

Achieving climate justice is increasingly recognized as one of the key problems associated with climate change, helping us to determine how good or bad the effects of climate change are, and whether any harms are fairly distributed. The numerous and complex issues which climate change involves underline the need for a normative framework that allows us both to assess the dangers that we face and to create a just distribution of the costs of action. This collection of original essays by leading scholars sheds new light on the key problems of climate justice, offering innovative treatments of a range of issues including international environmental institutions, geoengineering, carbon budgets, and the impact on future generations. It will be a valuable resource for researchers and upper-level students of ethics, environmental studies, and political philosophy.

Productivity Pattern of Researchers: Bibliometric Analysis by Using Lotka's Law At the Results of Research of Life And Environmental Sciences, BATAN's Researcher, 1993-2002 This research is intended to identify the productivity pattern of Batan?s researchers in life and environmental sciences in 1993-2002 by using the Lotka?s Law, and tests the compatibility between distribution of researcher's productivity of life and environmental science with the Lotka's Law. The research sampling is done by collecting the data of BATAN's researcher classify them. The data collected are of the data researchers of life and environmental science, as a sole author or first author, and his or her research have been published between 1993-2002. The result of then tabulated with excel 2000 program. Then the observation data and Lotka's law value table are made. The Lotka theoretical value use the formula of yx = C/x". C is a constant and n is exponent. The C value assigned to Lotka to productivity pattern of researchers is 60% x number of researchers and n = 2. The Lotka?s law counts the observation data. To identify the compatibility of observation data and theoretical value, the Kolmogorov Smirnov goodness of fit is used. The result indicates that number of researchers of Batan with the life and environmental sciences in 1993-2002 is 67 researchers and the research result of life and environmental sciences written by the first author or sole auth-'r and has been published is 687 documents. The biggest amount of researcher is in biology (22.39%) and the biggest amount of his or her research is in biology (26.78%) and the year with the biggest amount of researcher is on 1997 and the year with the biggest amount of his or her research is on 1996. Based on the calculation with Lotka's law, it is found that C = 0.09718 and n = 0.33286, the pattern of the researchers' productivity is yx = 0.09718/x"'"6 . It means that make a single contribution is 9.72%. With critical value at 0.01 = 0.199 and maximum deviation = 0.12179 it can be seen that the maximum deviation is greater than the critical value. It means that the null hypotesis is accepted which means that the observation data is compatible with the theoretical value.

This book describes comprehensively carbon (C) cycle process in global ecosystems and the potential and co-benefits of recarbonization of the biosphere. An ever increasing human population is disposing increasing amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere by land use and land cover changes but most importantly by burning of fossil fuels. This process severely perturbs the natural global C cycles and Earth system processes. Recarbonization of the biosphere is a potential strategy to redistribute C among global pools, and to enhance ocean but most importantly land-based C sinks. Sustainably managed and protected must be, in particular, the large and sensitive C stocks in permafrost, wetlands, peatlands, tropical rainforests and savannas, grasslands, degraded/desertified lands, and croplands. Recarbonization requires long-term management because C stocks grow with a progressive improvement in ecosystem health. Protecting and enhancing land-based C sinks serves food security aside contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
