"This book presents an overview of the ways in which the latest experimental and theoretical nanotechnologies are serving the fields of biotechnology, medicine, and biomaterials. They not only enhance the efficiency of common therapeutics and lower their risks, but thanks to their specific properties, they also provide new capabilities. Nano-scale measurement techniques, such as nano-indentation and nano-scratch methods, could potentially be used to characterize the physical and mechanical properties of both natural tissues and synthetic biomaterials in terms of strength and durability."

"This book presents a thorough discussion of the physics, biology, chemistry and medicinal science behind a new and important area of materials science and engineering: polymer nanocomposites. The tremendous opportunities of polymer nanocomposites in the biomedical field arise from their multitude of applications and their ability to satisfy the vastly different functional requirements for each of these applications. In the biomedical field, a polymer nanocomposite system must meet certain design and functional criteria, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, mechanical properties, and, in some cases, aesthetic demands. "In this book, application-related studies for acoustic biomedical sensors are covered in depth. The book features an array of different biomedical signals, including acoustic biomedical signals as well as the thermal biomedical signals, magnetic biomedical signals, and optical biomedical signals to support healthcare. It employs signal processing approaches, such as filtering, Fourier transform, spectral estimation, and wavelet transform. The book presents applications of acoustic biomedical sensors and bio-signal processing for prediction, detection, and monitoring of some diseases from the phonocardiogram (PCG) signal analysis. Several challenges and future perspectives related to the acoustic sensors applications are highlighted. This book supports the engineers, researchers, designers, and physicians in several interdisciplinary domains that support healthcare. "

The impact of glutaraldehyde (GA) crosslinking time on the morphology, chemical properties, and swelling behavior of gelatin sponge/monetite composites used for hemostatic applications. Glutaraldehyde enhances the gelatin matrix's structural integrity by forming covalent bonds, creating a three-dimensional network that improves mechanical properties. SEM analysis showed that GA variations affect the composite's porous structure. FTIR confirmed that glutaraldehyde reacts with gelatin's amine groups to form a stable covalent network. Uniformly dispersed monetite particles enhance mechanical strength and osteoconductivity. Swelling tests revealed Initial swelling is highest in the Non-GA sample (~350%) within 20 minutes, followed by GA-12 (~320%) and GA-24 (~300%). GA-48 exhibits slower swelling, peaking at about 250% after 40 minutes. These findings highlight the crucial role of GA concentration in defining the composites' characteristics, making them suitable for bone regeneration and tissue engineering."

"This book is the first major work that addresses a core question in biomedical research. The acceptable level of risks is regulated by the requirement of proportionality in biomedical research law.
This investigation addresses research on healthy volunteers, children, vulnerable subjects, and includes placebo controlled clinical trials. It represents a major contribution towards clarifying the most central, but also the most controversial and complex issue in biomedical research law and bioethics. "
