"This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the International IFIP WG 5.7 Conference on Advances in Production Management Systems, APMS 2011, held in Stavanger, Norway, in September 2011. The 66 revised and extended full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 124 papers presented at the conference. The papers are organized in 3 parts: production process, supply chain management, and strategy. They represent the breadth and complexity of topics in operations management, ranging from optimization and use of technology, management of organizations and networks, to sustainable production and globalization. The authors use a broad range of methodological approaches spanning from grounded theory and qualitative methods, via a broad set of statistical methods to modeling and simulation techniques."

In shipping business, shipyards must be able to accurately estimate costs. Cost estimating is necessary for the bid process, for change orders, and for tradeoff studies. Numerous cost estimating approaches exist. They are based on extrapolations from previously-built ships, detailed bottoms-up parametrics, and integrated physics-based analyses. Cost estimating can be frustrating to shipyard personnel. Cost estimators may lack timely technical information and face data inconsistencies.
Ship engineers and naval architects commonly lack feed-back on the cost consequences of their technical decisions. Managers often lack information denoting the level of confidence in cost estimates upon which they must make business decisions. Finally, many approaches to cost estimating are mysterious and not formally validated (each cost estimator has his own black book), complicated (too time consuming to be of use to decision makers), or difficult to use (steep learning curve).
This paper presents an approach that is simple, yet enables instant sharing of cost and technical data among ship engineers, naval architects and cost estimators; gives confidence measures to managers; and is user friendly. The approach is based on several years' development work in support of shipyard engineers, naval architects, and cost estimators.

"The book presents several highly selected cases in emerging countries where the production-logistics systems have been optimized or improved with the support of mathematical models. The book contains a selection of papers from the 5th International Conference on Production Research (ICPR) Americas 2010 held on July 21-23 in Bogotá, Colombia. The main topic of the conference was “Technologies in logistics and manufacturing for small and medium enterprises” which is perfectly aligned with the realities of emerging countries. The book presents methodologies and case studies related to a wide variety of production/logistics systems such as diary production, auto parts, steel and iron production, and financial services. "

"This book presents current developments in smart city research and application regarding the management of manufacturing systems, Industry 4.0, transportation, and business management. It suggests approaches to incorporating smart city innovations into manufacturing systems, with an eye towards competitiveness in a global environment. The same pro-innovative approach is then applied to business and cooperation management. The authors also present smart city transportation solutions including vehicle data processing/reporting system, mobile application for fleet managers, bus drivers, bus passengers and special applications for smart city buses like passenger counting system, IP cameras, GPS system etc. The goal of the book is to establish channels of communication and disseminate knowledge among researchers and professionals working on smart city research and application.
- Features contributions on a variety of topics related to smart cities from global researchers and professionals in a wide range of sectors;
- Presents topics relating to smart cities such as manufacturing, business, and transportation;
- Includes expanded selected papers from EAI International Conference on Management of Manufacturing Systems (MMS 2016), EAI Industry of Things and Future Technologies Conference - Mobility IoT 2016 and International Conference on Smart Electric Vehicles and Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (SEVNET)."

"This book synthesizes the current state of knowledge on logistics infrastructures and process modeling, especially for processes that are exposed to changing and uncertain environments. It then builds on this knowledge to present a new concept of dependable product delivery assurance. In order to quantitatively assess dependability, a service continuity oriented approach as well as an imperfect knowledge based concept of risk are employed. This approach is based on the methodology of service engineering and is closely related to the idea of the resilient enterprise, as well as the concept of disruption-tolerant operation. The practical advantages of this concept are subsequently illustrated in three sample applications: a modified FMECA method, an expert system with fuzzy reasoning, and a simulation agent-based model of logistic network resilience."

"This book showcases cutting-edge research papers from the 7th International Conference on Research into Design (ICoRD 2019)-the largest in India in this area-written by eminent researchers from across the world on design processes, technologies, methods and tools, and their impact on innovation, for supporting design for a connected world. The theme of ICoRD19 has been Design for a Connected World. While Design traditionally focused on developing products that worked on their own, an emerging trend is to have products with a smart layer that makes them context aware and responsive, individually and collectively, through collaboration with other physical and digital objects with which these are connected. The papers in this volume explore these themes, and their key focus is connectivity: how do products and their development change in a connected world? The volume will be of interest to researchers, professionals and entrepreneurs working in the areas on industrial design, manufacturing, consumer goods, and industrial management who are interested in the use of emerging technologies such as IOT, IIOT, Digital Twins, I4.0 etc. as well as new and emerging methods and tools to design new products, systems and services."
