"Skripsi ini menjelaskan mengenai politik komunal yang terjadi di India, khususnya di Kota Ahmadabad. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam skripsi ini adalah bagaimana dampak politik perseteruan terhadap kekerasan yang dialami oleh masyarakat Muslim di Ahmadabad. Skripsi ini merupakan penelitian eksplanatif dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif. Penulisan skripsi ini menggunakan teori politik perseteruan serta konsep kekerasan langsung dan struktural. Hasil penelitian ini adalah politik perseteruan komunal yang terjadi mengakibatkan terbentuknya identitas politik masyarakat Hindu yang kemudian diarahkan menjadi kerusuhan komunal selama tahun 1985-2002. Politik perseteruan ini berdampak pada masyarakat Muslim yang menjadi korban atas kekerasan komunal, baik kekerasan langsung (fisik) pada saat kerusuhan terjadi maupun pasca kerusuhan terjadi (2002-2014) dalam bentuk kekerasan struktural. Sedangkan kelompok Nasionalis Hindu yang memobilisasi kekerasan ini mendapatkan keuntungan politik dimana sayap politik mereka, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), berhasil membangun basis massa mereka dan secara perlahan mampu menguasai suara mayoritas di parlemen lokal. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat keterkaitan antara kekerasan komunal dengan kompetisi politik di India.

This research explains about the communal politics in India, especially in Ahmedabad. The issue in this paper is how the impact of political contention toward the violence experienced by the Muslim community in Ahmadabad. This research is an explanative research using qualitative methods. This thesis applies contentious politics theory and direct and structural violence concept. The result of this research is the contentious politics caused the formation of Hindu identity which can be directed to mobilize communal riot in 1985-2002. This political contention has an impact on Muslim community who are being victimized of communal violence, both direct violence (physical) during the riots and after the riots occurred (2002-2014) in the form of structural violence. Meanwhile, the Hindu Nationalism that mobilizes this violence gains political benefit where their political wing, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is successful in establishing political bases and gradually able to control the majority in the local parliament. This case indicates that there is a link between communal violence with political competition in India."
