"Skripsi ini membahas dinamika penggunaan zat kimia oleh remaja perempuan (Taruni) yang terwujud dalam pemakaian kosmetik sehari-hari di Sekolah kedinasan milik pemerintah yang menerapkan pendidikan semi-militer. Taruni menjadi subjek penelitian karena perempuan cenderung bergantung pada kosmetik untuk mewujudkan keinginan dan harapan mereka. Penelitian ini berada di bawah payung penelitian "Chemical Youth" yang melihat penggunaan zat kimia lewat perspektif kaum muda. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan wawancara mendalam, pengamatan secara langsung, serta diskusi kelompok terfokus. Survey sederhana juga dilakukan pada saat preliminary survey untuk memperoleh pola penggunaan kosmetik di kalangan Taruni. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ketergantungan mereka pada zat kimia dalam kosmetik tidak dapat dihindari namun dapat dinegosiasikan pada situasi tertentu. Pemaknaan mereka pada kosmetik pun dinamis seiring dengan pengalaman yang mereka lalui selama mereka belajar dan berkegiatan di lingkungan kampus.

This thesis discusses the dynamics of the use of chemical substances by adolescent girls (Taruni), which is manifested in the daily use of cosmetics in an official government-owned schools that implements semi-military education. Taruni became the research subject because women tend to rely on cosmetics to actualize their wishes and expectations.

This study is under the scope of "Chemical Youth" study, which sees the use of chemical substances through the perspective of young people. The method used is a qualitative method with indepth interview, direct observation, and focus group discussion. Simple survey was also conducted during the preliminary phase to obtain cosmetic usage pattern among Taruni.

The results of this study indicate that their dependence on chemicals in cosmetics can not be avoided, but can be negotiated in certain situations. Their meanings on any cosmetic is also dynamic, along with the experiences they went through during their study and activism on campus."
