"Home to approximately one-fifth of the global Muslim population, Indonesia and Turkey underwent democratization efforts in the early 2000s. However, two decades later, both countries are facing growing tendencies of neo-autocratization. Both countries also face challenges typical of liberal democracies, such as the rise of populist leaders, concentration of power, elite-driven politics, resource exploitation, and growing inequality. This paper analyzes how political alliances influence the reconfiguration of political parties in the two countries. Contributing to the literature on change and adaptation in democracies, as well as addressing the scarcity of comparative studies between Indonesia and Turkey, this paper poses the following questions: How are political alliances formed and structured in Indonesia and Turkey? What role does religion play in shaping these alliances? What are the implications of political alliances on democracy in both countries? In this paper, I show how, during political rivalry—especially in electoral competition—political alliances in Indonesia are formed suddenly within a messy landscape, while in Turkey, it is a gradual and slow process in which rigid ideological boundaries lead to alliances across ideologies. Both conditions contribute to autocratization tendencies, creating no real opposition in Indonesia and a relatively weak opposition in Turkey. In this process, religion is central in both countries and is intertwined with nationalism in different ways."

"ABSTRACT
Compared to what exists for other countries publications on the demographic characteristics of the population of Indonesia are very scanty, based on out-dated material and not much knows to the outside world. Many studies were carried out based on the data provided by the 1930 Census, which gave however very vague information on the age distribution of the Indonesian population. The last census, held in 1961, which was programmed as a "modern" census and should show many improvement in presenting demographic data of the Indonesian population, stalled in the stage of tabulating and publishing the result, due to political and economic disturbances in the sixties which affected the normal continuation of the intended work.
The purpose of this study is to explore as for as possible the implications of the demographic characteristics of the Indonesia population for the labor force and the school-going population of the country in the years ahead, by using the hitherto published material of the last census and demographic survey. This implies that it will not cover all of the exceedingly complex aspects of the consequences of the population characteristic, but will try to explain the possible effects of population dynamics on the future development of certain limited sections of the Indonesia population only.
The study will be divided in the following parts:
1. Geography and census history of Indonesia in brief outline.
2. Some notes on the collection of demographic data in Indonesia.
3. A discussion of the age composition of the population in Indonesia.
4. Age at marriage in Indonesia.
5. Estimates of basic demographic parameters of the population in Indonesia as of about 1960.
6. Population projections for Indonesia and its regions, from 1961 to 2001.
7. The Labor force in Indonesia.
8. Estimating the composition of the future power of Indonesia.
9. Estimating the future school-going population in Indonesia.
10. Summary and conclusion remarks.

"Indonesia’s economic growth has continued at a steady rate of approximately 5% to 6% annually, and energy consumption in the entire country has been increasing year by year. Demand for air conditioning in buildings is expanding. In line with this expansion, a 239 kW solar air-conditioning system using a single-double effect combined absorption chiller was installed in a building at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Engineering located in Depok city, near Jakarta, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We collected and analyzed data from this air-conditioning system to better comprehend its performance. We report the outline and the performance of the chiller and the air-conditioning system."

"The present environmental situation is not compatible with our expectations. Pollution, erosion, flood, and drought have hit many parts of the world, and these disaster give us reflections on how serious are the environmental problems that befalls this planet. Mankind has exploited the environment to the utmost without caring about environmental conservation. Moreover, with the population explosion after the 1950s and the dependency of life upon the natural processes, the cultivated land to be inherited by future generations has gradually become increasingly barren and fertile. Efforts are absolutely necessary to check increasing population growth rates, to raise the standard of living for all people and to arouse the awareness of sustainable development policies so that a compatibility between development activities and environment can be achieved.

"Background: Indonesia is one of ten countries in the world with estimated number of dementia case exceeding a million. The number of elderly population living in Indonesian cities has exceeded the number in rural areas, but the country lacks data representing the urban population better related to modifiable risk factors for dementia, prevention of which is crucial. We aimed to identify the modifiable risk factors for dementia in Indonesia's urban population. Methods: this case-control study used five-year data in Indonesia's national general hospital by tracing back medical record books of individuals aged 60 years and above in geriatric medicine outpatient clinic to the first hospital visit. Statistical analyses included bivariate and multivariate analyses to adjust for confounding factors appropriately. Results: data from 345 patients suggested that the significant risk factors for dementia were history of smoking (adjusted OR 2.860, 95% CI 1.559-5.246), history of hearing loss (adjusted OR 7.962, 95% CI 3.534-17.941), history of depression (adjusted OR 12.473, 95% CI 2.533-61.417), hypertension (adjusted OR 1.751, 95% CI 1.006-3.048), and diabetes mellitus (adjusted OR 2.561, 95% CI 1.482-4.425). Dementia patients had longer median duration of diabetes mellitus (12 years) than elderly without dementia (9 years) before the diagnosis of dementia. Single point late-life underweight condition and low educational attainment were not associated with dementia in Indonesia's urban setting. The risk factors for vascular dementia were largely similar to those of dementia. Conclusion: in Indonesian urban population, history of smoking, hearing loss, depression, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus are associated with dementia."
