"Penelitian ini menganotasi terjemahan resep dari buku kue keto. Masalah-masalah yang ditemukan dikelompokkan menjadi dua. Yang pertama istilah alat dan bahan. Yang kedua adalah teknik memasak. Masalah dikelompokkan lagi berdasarkan prosedur dan dirapikan dalam tabel. Beberapa prosedur penerjemahan diterapkan selama melakukan anotasi. Metode penerjemahan resep dalam penelitian ini ada dua yaitu, metode semantis dan metode komunikatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk nama alat dan bahan berorientasi pada BSu agar cita rasa makanan yang dihasilkan sama seperti resep TSu. Strategi penerjemahan untuk teknik memasak berorientasi pada BSa sebab teknik memasak harus mudah dipahami pembaca agar menghasilkan tekstur dan tampilan makanan yang sesuai dengan resep. Pengembangan kosakata kuliner perlu dilakukan untuk membantu penerjemah dalam penerjemahan resep.

This study annotates recipe translation from a keto baking book. The problems in this research are grouped into two. First is the terms of ingredients and tools. Second is the cooking techniques. Problems are regrouped according to procedures and organized in a table. Several translation procedures are applied during annotation. There are two methods of translating recipes in this study, namely, the semantic method and the communicative method. The results showed that the translation strategies used for the names of tools and ingredients were oriented towards SL so that the taste of the food produced is the same as the TS recipe. The strategies for cooking techniques were oriented towards TL, because the cooking techniques must be easily understood by the reader in order to produce the food texture and appearance according to the recipe. Culinaries vocabulary development needs to be done to assist translators in translating recipes."

"Tesis ini berisi terjemahan novel The Seed and the Sower ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia serta anotasinya untuk memberi penjelasan padanan yang digunakan dalam menghadapi masalah-masalah penerjemahan terutama dalam unsur kebudayaan Afrika Selatan dan Jepang, serta kesalahan tata bahasa. Novel ini dipilih karena pekat dengan unsur budaya akibat banyak kebudayaan yang terlibat, serta terdapat banyak situasi komunikasi orangasing yang berbahasa Inggris salah akibat latar belakang novelnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan terjemahan yang sesuai dengan skoposnya dan bertanggung jawab terhadap terjemahan itu dengan anotasi yang sesuai. Ada tiga masalah yang dijabarkan dalam penelitian ini: 1 masalah penerjemahan yang dihadapi saat menerjemahkan, 2 teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan, dan 3 ideologi penerjemahan yang dipilih dan pengaruhnya terhadap penerjemahan kata bermuatan budaya dalam TSu. Unit datanya adalah kata dan frasa yang bermuatan budaya. Datadiambil dari bab dua bagian keenam novel The Seed and the Sower. Dalam penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa teknik penerjemahan yang paling banyak muncul adalah teknik amplifikasi. Kesalahan tata bahasa dalam TSu lebih baik diterjemahkan menjadi tata bahasa yang salah juga dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Dari temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik penerjemahan dalam menerjemahkan satu teks dapat berbeda-beda tergantung skoposnya. Ideologi pengasingan juga lebih unggul dalam terjemahan, tetapi pada dasarnya kedua ideologi dapat digunakan bersamaan apabila sesuai dengan tujuan penerjemahan.

This thesis is about the translation of The Seed and the Sower novel from English to Indonesia along with its annotation to give an explanation about the equivalent words used to face translation problems especially in the culture of South Africa and Japanese, and also the grammar mistake made deliberately in the source text. The novel is chosen because it has a lot of cultural elements because a variety of cultures are involved. It also has a lot of communication situations in which foreigners speak broken English grammar due to the storys background situation. The purpose of this research is to make a translation which is true to its skopos and to be responsible to the translation with the proper annotation. The researcher is dealing with three problems in this research: 1 translation problems faced while translating the source text, 2 translation techniques used for the translation, and 3 translation ideology chosen and its effect on translating cultural terms. The unit data are words and phrases which have culturalmeaning. The data are taken from the second chapter and sixth section of the novel. The finding shows that translation technique with most appearance is amplification technique. The broken grammar that appears in the source text is also better to be translated in broken Indonesian grammar. From the finding, it can be concluded that different translation technique can be used to translate a text, depending on the skopos. In addition, foreignisation is the superior ideology for translation, but the two translationideologies can basically used alternately if it suits the translations goal."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pertanggungjawaban atas terjemahan yang dipilih dalam menerjemahkan sebuah teks, dalam hal ini adalah novel anak. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis, komunikatif, dan idiomatis. Ketiganya dipilih agar terjemahan yang dihasilkan memiliki estetika dan pesan yang disampaikan ke pembaca TSa terasa wajar dan berterima. Permasalahan yang muncul dalam proses penerjemahan novel anak adalah berkaitan dengan unsur kebudayaan. Berbagai prosedur penerjemahan digunakan sebagai upaya menyelesaikan permasalahan itu. The research aims to give annotation for the chosen equivalence in translating children novel. The semantic, communicative and idiomatic methods are applied. Those methods are chosen in order to render source text?s aesthetics as well as message, accepted in the target text. Many problems rise in the translation process are related with cultural differences. In order to address those problems, I deploy several translating procedures. Thus, annotations were conducted at the level of words, phrases, and sentences, by referring to various dictionaries, documents and small-scale survey. "Penelitian terjemahan beranotasi ini menjelaskan pertanggungjawaban penerjemah atas pilihan padanan. Sumber data penelitian adalah buku nonfiksi the Soul of the Indian karya Charles Alexander Eastman. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam melakukan penerjemahan dan menemukan solusi terbaik untuk mengatasinya. Data penelitian ini adalah masalah yang ditemukan dan dikelompokkan sesuai kategori anotasinya. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan model teoretis penerjemahan berupa analisis komparatif. Temuan penelitian mencakup dua hal utama. Pertama, dari 27 data anotasi yang dikumpulkan, terdapat 8 data anotasi nama atau sebutan untuk Tuhan atau Deitas, 1 nama seremoni, 1 sebutan untuk tokoh spiritual, 1 nama praktik spiritual, 4 majas, 9 istilah khusus, dan 3 kolokasi. Terdapat 8 macam prosedur penerjemahan; prosedur yang mengombinasikan dua prosedur atau lebih (kuplet, triplet, kuartet) adalah yang paling dominan. Kedua, kesulitan yang dihadapi terkait dengan masalah penerjemahan diatasi dengan menerapkan teori, metode dan prosedur penerjemahan relevan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa spiritualisme bangsa Indian dan budaya masyarakatnya saling terkait satu sama lain sehingga data anotasi yang ditemukan tidak hanya bersifat spiritual, tetapi juga kultural. Oleh karena itu, penerjemah harus memiliki pengetahuan dan wawasan yang luas mengenai spiritualisme dan budaya masyarakat bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran.

This is an annotated translation research which explains the researcher’s accountability with regard to the translation equivalents being chosen. The data source in this research is a nonfiction book T he Soul of the Indian by Charles Alexander Eastman. This study aims at identifying the problems encountered by the researcher in the course of translating the source texts and seeking the best solution to solve them. The data of this study are the problems collected and classified according to their annotation categories. The qualitative method has been employed using a comparative analysis translation model. The findings of this research reveal two important things. First, out of 27 elements of annotation data collected, 8 are names or designations for a God or Deity, 1 is the name for ceremony, 1 is a designation for a spiritual figure, 1 is a name of a spiritual practice, 4 are figures of speech, 9 are specific terminologies, and 3 are collocations. There are 8 translation procedures being employed, with combined procedures being the dominant ones (couplets, triplets, quadruplets). Second, the difficulties encountered in dealing with the problems are solved by employing relevant translation theories, methods, and procedures. Such findings demonstrate that Indian spiritualism and culture are interrelated so that the annotation data obtained are not only spiritual in nature, but also cultural. Thus, a translator should be well equipped with extensive knowledge and insight not only about spiritualism, but also culture, both of the source and target language community."

"Penelitian terjemahan beranotasi adalah jenis penelitian introspektif dan retrospektif yang dilakukan penerjemah dengan memberikan catatan atau komentar terhadap terjemahannya sendiri. Catatan itu berupa alasan mengapa suatu padanan dipilih. Teks yang digunakan dalam dalam terjemahan beranotasi ini adalah sebuah novel.Metode penerjemahan yang diterapkan adalah metode semantis dan komunikatif. Metode semantis diterapkan pada kata bermuatan budaya spesifik untuk tetap menjaga budaya bahasa sumber. Metode komunikatif diterapkan agar nuansa estetis dan pesan dalam teks sumber dapat tersampaikan kembali dalam bahasa sasaran dengan padanan yang wajar dan berterima.Permasalahan yang muncul dalam proses penerjemahan novel adalah berkaitan dengan unsur kebahasaan dan unsur kebudayaan. Penerapan beberapa teknik penerjemahan merupakan cara yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan itu. Selanjutnya, anotasi dilakukan pada tataran kata, frasa, dan kalimat, berbekal pengetahuan dasar, penelusuran dokumen, pengacuan pada kamus, survei kecil, serta diskusi dengan narasumber.Sebagai kesimpulan, metode semantis dan komunikatif adalah solusi yang tepat bagi penerjemahan novel ini, yang diterapkan melalui berbagai pilihan teknik penerjemahan.

Annotated translation or translation with commentary is a kind of introspective and retrospective research done by translator by adding a note or comment on his own translation. This note is the reason why an equivalence being chosen. Novel is used in this annotated translation as the research data.Translation methods applied are those of semantic and communicative. Semantic method is applied to culture-specific words in order to keep culture of source language. Communicative method is applied to convey the message of source text and to keep aesthetic values by using natural equivalence in target text.Problems that frequently occur during the translation process of a novel are related to linguistic aspects and cultural differences between source and target text. The application of several translation techniques is the kinds of solution to solve those problems. Furthermore, annotations were conducted at the level of words, phrases, and sentences by referring to basic knowledge, dictionaries and websites, and by doing some discussions with competent informants.In conclusion, it is justified that semantic and communicative method are the most suitable solution to solve any problems in that novel, which are represented by some techniques."

This research is in a form of an annotated translation model. An annotated translation is a form of accountability of a translator in selecting a suitable equivalence and making annotation on things that are challenging during the translation process.During the process of translation, the translator realized that translating aliterary work is not the same as translating another work. In this study Itranslated part of a novel Various Pets Alive & Dead by Marina Lewycka andannotated some parts of the source text which I think difficult and challenging. Intranslating this novel, I used the method of semantic and communicativetranslation. The semantic translation method is used to translate words, phrasesand sentences that are closely related to the source culture, language and thecharacters in the novel, such as the incorrect English pronunciation by a foreignerin England and foreign terms. While the communicative method is used totranslate words, phrases or sentences that has equivalence in the target language,for example, the term of government institutions, and cultural terms. Inannotating, I used translation strategies by Newmark.After doing this research, I found that the title of a source text can betranslated into the target language if the original title is not appealing to the targetaudience. "ABSTRAKSaat ini, para pemerhati isu-isu sosial dan budaya memilih untuk mengekspresikan kepedulian mereka melalui berbagai produk audiovisual, seperti video, film pendek, dan film dokumenter. Sayangnya, perbedaan bahasa sering kali membatasi kemampuan mereka untuk berinteraksi dengan jumlah penonton yang lebih besar. Di sinilah peran penerjemah dan subtitle yang berkualitas diperlukan. Terjemahan beranotasi ini disusun untuk 1 memperlihatkan berbagai masalah yang muncul dalam proses menerjemahkan dialog video, dan 2 menjelaskan strategi pengalihan pesan yang tepat agar tercapai terjemahan yang berkualitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya dua masalah utama yang muncul dalam proses penerjemahan yang dilakukan. Masalah pertama terkait aspek kebahasaan, seperti ekspresi idiom, metaforis, istilah slang, kata umpatan, kata budaya, dan kata-kata berkonotasi seksual. Masalah kedua terkait aspek nonlinguistik, seperti keterbatasan waktu dan karakter, keselarasan subtitle dengan visual, serta ketepatan pemahaman pragmatis. Masalah-masalah tersebut diselesaikan dengan menerapkan metode dan prosedur penerjemahan yang relevan, serta dengan merujuk pada teori-teori penerjemahan audiovisual.

ABSTRACTNowadays, social cultural activists prefer to express their concerns through a variety of audiovisual products, such as video, short movie, and documentary. Unfortunately, the language barrier often hinders their ability to interact with audience in larger number. This is where a good translator places an important role, and a good subtitle is required. This article aims to 1 show various issues in subtitling, and 2 give plausible solutions to the issues. The finding revealed two main issues that arose in the subtitling process. The first issue is related to linguistic aspects, such as idiomatic and metaphorical expressions, slang terms, swearing terms, cultural terms, and terms that have sexual connotations. The second issue is related to nonlinguistic aspects, such as the limitation of time and space, the congruence between subtitle and visual image, and the accuracy of pragmatic understanding. Those problems were solved by applying relevant theories of English Indonesian language, translation, and subtitling."

Tesis ini adalah penelitian terjemahan beranotasi buku mengenai konflik Israel-Palestina yang ditulis oleh dua akademisi. Penerjemahan teks sumber ini menarik karena memuat peristilahan khas yang penggunaannya terbatas pada narasi konflik Israel-Palestina. Konflik ini sendiri banyak mendapatkan perhatian dunia internasional karena hingga hari ini belum mencapai kesepakatan penyelesaian. Tujuan penelitian terjemahan beranotasi ini adalah untuk memberikan pertanggungjawaban atas padanan tertentu yang dipilih untuk menerjemahkan tiga bab dalam buku Gaza in Crisis: Reflections on Israel’s War Against the Palestinians. Terjemahan beranotasi adalah hasil penerjemahan yang disertai dengan catatan khusus yang dibuat oleh penerjemah terkait dengan keputusan yang dibuatnya dalam menentukan padanan tertentu. Unit yang dianotasi adalah peristilahan di bidang politik dan fitur bahasa politis berupa metafora dan analogi. Masalah penerjemahan yang ditemukan di antaranya berkaitan dengan adanya istilah yang tidak memiliki padanan dan adanya kemungkinan kesalahan persepsi pembaca dalam memahami metafora dan analogi yang digunakan penulis dalam mengungkapkan gagasan. Teknik yang diterapkan untuk mengatasi masalah penerjemahan meliputi teknik amplifikasi, padanan deskriptif, naturalisasi, peminjaman, kuplet, penerjemahan metafora, serta parafrasa. Metode penerjemahan yang diterapkan dalam penerjemahan adalah metode komunikatif. Metode semantis juga diterapkan pada beberapa bagian teks yang menyangkut penerjemahan metafora agar dapat menghadirkan nuansa yang sama di bahasa sasaran. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerjemahan teks politis memerlukan kehati-hatian untuk menghindari persepsi yang keliru dalam bahasa sasaran. Selain itu, dalam menerjemahkan peristilahan di bidang politik maupun fitur bahasa politis seperti metafora dan analogi, makna kontekstual sangatlah penting untuk menentukan padanan.

This thesis is an annotated translation study of a book related to the Israel-Palestine conflict wrote by two academics. This topic is interesting because the target text itself contains the specific terminology used only in the Israel-Palestine conflict narrative. This conflict receives international attention because it has not yet reached a peaceful settlement to this day. This annotated translation study aims to justify the equivalent used in the translation of a political book titled Gaza in Crisis: Reflections on Israel’s War Against the Palestinians. An annotated translation is a translation completed with specific notes or critical comments by the translator related to the decision in choosing a particular equivalent. The units annotated are political terminology and political language features in the form of metaphor and analogy. The translation problems found are related to the specific terms which have no equivalents and the possibility of misperception of readers in understanding the metaphors and analogies used by the writers to express the ideas. Techniques implemented to overcome the translation problems are amplification, descriptive equivalent, naturalization, borrowing, couplet, metaphor translation, and paraphrase. The translation method generally used in this translation is communicative. Semantic method is also used in some parts of the text regarding the translation of metaphors as to produce the similar nuance in the target text. From this study, it can be concluded that the translator has to be careful in translating the political text in order to avoid misperception in the target language. Furthermore, in the translation of political terminology and political language features like metaphor and analogy, contextual meaning is very important to determine the equivalent in the target text.
