This research explores the representation of the eldest daughter in Hirokazu Koreeda's Umimachi Diary (2015) and the interpretation of the narrative. The approach used in this research is a feminist approach along with Stuart Hall's (1997) theory of representation and John Fiske's (1987) theory of television codes. Through visual and narrative analysis, this research examines how the eldest daughter, focused on the character of Sachi KÅda, is portrayed in Umimachi Diary. The results of this study found not only the representation of the eldest daughter as a figure with a great leadership skills, reliable, considerate of others, and strong, but also a model of a contemporary woman who embraces the values of liberal feminism. These values come from the roles and expectations imposed on Sachi as the eldest daughter."

This thesis explores femvertising's influence on Indonesian consumer attitudes, focusing on the relationship between femvertising messages and perceptions of the company. Femvertising challenges traditional gender roles by empowering women in ad campaigns. Its impact on Indonesian consumer attitudes remains understudied. The study fills this gap by investigating femvertising's effects on consumer attitudes. Findings reveal positive influence on attitudes toward the company, resonating with Indonesian consumers. However, support for women's rights and feminist self-identification negatively affects femvertising attitudes. Understanding nuances in Indonesian consumer attitudes is vital for advertisers to tailor strategies, fostering positive brand perception among Indonesian consumers."

As one of the important references for women to better understand each other, women's magazines are a potential means to empower women. This thesis analyzes the idea of women's empowerment in the editorials of Glamour News in Glamour magazine USA that are intended by the Glamour editorial team as a means to affirm Glamours taking sides in female issues. This research aims to show how the idea of women's empowerment is represented in Glamour editorials throughout 2007 and how the Glamour editorials played a role as a place of discourse on the empowerment of women. This thesis is qualitative in character and uses the framing analysis method. The results of this analysis show that Glamour gives meaning to women's empowerment in the United States of America: to own the full right to control one's own body; self-confidence in carrying out a profession; the ability to formulate what being a woman is; the ability to overcome discrimination in the work place; the ability to fulfill the criteria of Glamour's version of the ideal woman; broad knowledge of female health problems; and the ability to take tangible action to express empathy toward other women specifically and the world in general The relationship between Glamour and its readers is a hegemonic relationship. This is reflected in the manner Glamour positions itself as the determiner of knowledge that should be followed by its readers. In general, Glamour editorials reflect the cultural values of America, such as pragmatism, orientation to win. and a sense of mission "to save the world” including the paradoxical character of American culture in its inconsistent way of giving meaning to American womens empowerment."

ABSTRACTEven after the rise of Indonesian feminist film directors by the likes of Nia Dinata, Mira Lesmana, Mouly Surya, Nan T Achnas and Lola Amaria, the Indonesian moviegoers still flocked into badly written teenage romance dramas. This paper interrogates the way romance and femininities have been shaped within the cinematic representation in London Love Story 2, Promise and Dear Nathan. It is concluded that the Indonesian romance teenage dramas are entrenched with masculine power and dominance spectacles in which the feminine heroines have been treated as passive objects of desire whose agency and subjectivities are being stripped away. Using feminist literature on post feminist romance cinema, the heroines in these films have mostly been constructed as independent, smart and seemingly agentive at first, but nevertheless pursued romantic, traditional, heterosexual relationships saturated with masculine control and dominance. This paper shows that post feminist popular culture has transpired globally and morphed into transnational post feminism that influenced the production and consumption of such text in Indonesia."

ABSTRACTThis paper focuses on the experience of women across generation living and interpreting love as part of their lives. Their experiences in living an interpreting love will be seen in two points, their romantic relationship and marriage or family institution. Based on the data of six subjects of research with different backgrounds like age, marital status and sexual orientation, showed that they have different perspective on love and marriage or family institution compare to mainstream society. They assume and believe love or romantic relationship has close relation with patriarchal cultural values, like mens domination, subordination and ownership if we agreed with mainstream societys thought on love. They also believe that marriage is an institution where patriarchys cultural values is produced there and will disadvantage women if the marriage is not built on equal and just relation. These six subjects of research agree with grand feminism narrative that love supposed to be not always related with ownership, mens domination and must be liberating women as an independence and autonomous person."
