"Pada tahun 2019, Departemen Pertahanan Amerika Serikat (AS) mengumumkan bahwa salah satu komandonya, Angkatan Darat, akan melakukan perombakan besar-besaran pada strategi pemasaran dan penjangkauannya. Strategi ini merupakan bagian dari proses rekrutmen militer angkatan darat dengan fokus utama pada tahapan program pengiklanan digital dengan menggunakan media sosial sebagai pendekatan baru kepada calon rekrutmen potensial. Alhasil, kegiatan siaran langsung e-sports yang dilakukan tim e-sports angkatan darat (USAE) melalui platform siaran langsung Twitch diluncurkan ke publik. Namun, pembaruan ini mendapatkan penerimaan yang buruk dari penggiat sosial hingga anggota dewan AS serupa. Reaksi yang muncul cukup beragam, dimulai dari komentar negatif warganet, layangan surat terbuka, hingga pengusulan amandemen undang-undang. Menanggapi fenomena tersebut, tulisan ini berusaha mencari tahu bagaimana penggunaan Twitch dalam program pengiklanan militer angkatan darat AS tahun 2020 menjadi bentuk militerisasi budaya populer. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan data sekunder bersumber dari artikel dan laporan resmi militer, berita, serta publikasi kampanye pengiklanan militer dan USAE. Menggunakan Teori Segitiga Gridiron, penulis berargumen bahwa siaran langsung permainan e-sports melalui platform Twitch merupakan bentuk militerisasi budaya populer yang diindikasikan dengan melihat hubungan tiga aktor utama, yakni militer, tim e-sports, dan media. Penulis menemukan bahwa interaksi ketiga aktor mendorong normalisasi nilai-nilai militeristis yang berupaya meningkatkan daya tarik dan persepsi positif terhadap militer.

In 2019, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) announced that one of its branches, the Army, would undergo a significant overhaul of its marketing and outreach strategy. This strategy was part of the Army's military recruitment process, with a primary focus on the stages of digital advertising programs using social media as a new approach to potential recruits. Consequently, the Army's esports team (USAE) launched public live broadcasts of esports events through the Twitch streaming platform. However, this overhaul received poor reception from social activists and members of the US Congress alike. The reactions varied, ranging from negative comments by netizens, open letters, to the proposal of legislative amendments. In response to this phenomenon, this paper aims to investigate how the use of Twitch in the US Army's 2020 military advertising program constitutes a form of the militarization of popular culture. This research employs qualitative methods, with secondary data sourced from articles and official military reports, news, and publications of military advertising campaigns and USAE. Utilizing the Gridiron Triangle Theory, the author argues that live streaming of esports games via the Twitch platform represents a form of the militarization of popular culture, indicated by examining the relationships between three key actors: the military, the esports team, and the media. The author finds that the interaction of these three actors promotes the normalization of militaristic values, aiming to enhance the attractiveness and positive perception of the military."

"Some people call it a "virus", others view it as an "addiction". Inilah yang terjadi pada fenomena Korean Wave atau disebut juga Hallyu. Fenomena ini menjadi sebuah budaya global alternatif yang mampu merambah melalui drama TV dan K-pop yang menjadi ancaman dan mempunyai tempat sendiri diantara maraknya Hollywood dan Bollywood melalui tayangan-tayangannya tersebut. Melihat hal tersebut peneliti menjadi tertarik untuk melihat kebelakang history media di Korea dalam milestone perkembangan penggunaan media di Korea. Makalah ini berfokus dalam upaya mencari milestone industri media dan kebijakannya yang digunakan oleh pemerintah Korea sehingga memberikan image Korea yang begitu melekat kepada negara lain. Untuk menggali hal tersebut, metode yang digunakan dalam makalah ini adalah studi dokumen dari annual report, rancangan kebijakan, literatur yang dikeluarkan Kementrian Kebudayaan Korea, Jurnal Komunikasi dan tesis mengenai Korean Wave yang nantinya akan menjawab perkembangan kebijakan dan penggunaan media oleh Korea. Makalah ini diharapkan mampu memberikan pembelajaran bagi negara-negara lain dalam membuat kebijakan dan memanfaatkan media yang dimiliki untuk membuat fenomenanya sendiri.

Some people call it a "virus", others view it as an "addiction". That’s "Korean Wave" ("Hallyu" in Korean). This phenomenon has become an alternatif culture that consists principally of two forms of media, television serials and pop music (K-pop), has it own popularity among Hollywood and Bollywood. Researcher see this phenomenon as something unique and interesting because the Korean government took full advantage of this national phenomenon and began aiding Korean media industries in exporting Korean pop culture. This global expansion has contributed to enhancing South Korea’s national image and its economy. How the authors developed and conducted this research by using document studies from annual report, strategy and policy planning, and literature from Ministry Culture, Sport, and Tourism Korea, Communication Journal, and thesis from other university that contain Korean Wave. The purpose of the research is to figure out the possibility for other country to adopt the strategy of the Korean Wave in the interest of creating their own Wave.

"Pengaruh globalisasi telah menyentuh semua aspek kehidupan manusia, termasuk kecantikan dan penampilan diri. Makna kecantikan dapat berubah-ubah seiring waktu. Media massa mengambil peranan besar dalam penyebaran budaya salah satunya Korean Wave. Makalah ini berusaha mengkaji bagaimana kemunculan fenomena Korean Wave mulai membentuk standarisasi cantik ala Korea. Kajian menunjukkan bahwa media memiliki peranan dalam menanamkan nilai cantik, kehadiran selebriti Korea yang dianggap sempurna mendorong para remaja menggunnakan kosmetika Korea demi mencapai kecantikan ala Korea.

The influence of globalization has touched all aspects of human life, including beauty and personal appearance. Beauty meaning can change over time. The media took a major role in spreading culture including the Korean Wave. This paper examines how the emergence of the phenomenon of Korean Wave start forming beautiful standardization of Korean Beauty. Studies show that the media has a role in instilling values of what is beauty using Korean beauty as standards, the presence of Korean celebrities who are considered perfect encourage the youth to use the Korean cosmetics in order to achieve the Korean style beauty.
