"Publik telah banyak berpartisipasi dalam upaya pemeliharaan kerukunan umat beragama di Indonesia yang menjadi isu kebijakan publik. Partisipasi publik itu beragam jenis dan tingkat kontribusinya, mulai dari sekadar diundang, terlibat hingga inisiatif mengerjakan sendiri suatu isu publik. Pertanyaannya, sejauhmana kualitas partisipasi publik telah dilakukan? Dengan menggunakan kerangka teori partisipasi publik, penelitian kualitatif dengan deskriptif-analitik ini menunjukkan bahwa partisipasi kolaboratif dan pemberdayaan lebih sejalan dengan upaya demokratisasi kehidupan publik. Penelitian ini mendorong partisipasi publik yang lebih luas dalam pemeliharaan kerukunan umat beragama."

"In general, the difference between qualitative and quantitative research canbe seen from the characteristics of data used (measured versus observed), datacollection methods (structured interview versus in-depth interview, participantobservation), and clearly, from the method of analysis. Example is quantitativeresearch with quantitative guidance (level of significance in hypothesis measuring,factor analysis in creating construct validity estimation of a variable measuring,and so on). Indeed, we need to analyze some of the questions related with thediffering between both, that include: do all qualitative research are researcheswhich emphasized in subjectivity and reflexivity? Do all qualitative researchemergent or exploratory in nature? Do all qualitative research ideographic innature? Isn?t there one research that nomothetic? How about the results foundusing proposition from the perspective of social construction of reality? Some of theanswers from the questions above will be discussed in this article."

"Solidarity is an important matter for the Indonesian nation with its diversity. This study reveals the values of solidarity embedded in the motifs of Indonesian batik motifs. This study aims at enriching knowledge about Indonesian batik and raising awareness about the importance of national solidarity. This descriptive qualitative research has found 29 batik motifs that conserve noble values of solidarity, such as Kotak Nan Rancak, Sekar Jagad, Kaledo, Kuda Kupang, and Tambal Ukir. The values of solidarity embedded in the batik motifs are among others diversity, helping each other, togetherness, tolerance, acculturation, harmony, unity, brotherhood, and harmony in community life. Understanding and actualization of these values will strengthen the existence of the Republic of Indonesia."
