"As a foreign exchange earner for the Indonesian government, the tourism industry has currently prioritized ten tourist destinations. Problematically, this promotion of the beauty and diversity of nature and ethnicty marginalizes and exoticizes a number of ethnic group and their areas. This promotion, which can be traced back to colonial times, still reflects the Dutch colonial legacy, particularly Darwinian social evolution. To clarify this situation, this article illustrates tourism promotion in the historical and socio-cultural contexts of Borobodur in Java and the megalith villages of the Ngadha and Manggarai people of Flores. It investigates the representation and articulation of colonial perceptions which influence tourist promotion programmes, and their impact on the perceptions of tourists and local residents. An examination of the formation of the Indonesian tourist industry also reveals between the Dutch colonial control of knowledge, the vision of the Indonesian government, tourists desires, and local stakeholder expectation of this promotion. It ends with an outline of the efforts of local residents in the megalithic villages in Flores to decolonize the tourism promotion narratives of the Indonesian government."

"Tourism in Indonesia is frequently associated with Bali. Although Bali is an important tourist destination within the Indonesian tourist system, a regional analysis shows that Java and specially Jakarta has a greater share in the tourist industry. Java and Bali combined offer 76 percent of the hotel supply and attract 79 percent of the International hotel demand. If tourism should be used to alleviate some of the biggest contemporary problems of Indonesia, namely hyperurbanisation and population pressure on Java and Bali, then more emphasis needs to be placed on regional distributive effects of tourism. Several approaches appear feasible: (1) improvement of the accomodation suppply and access to the outer islands; and (2) identification and targetting of those market segments with a more regionally dispersed travel pattern using a market segmentation analysis of the intra-national travel pattern of the international tourists."

Paradigma pariwisata ini pun bergeser dari sun, sand and sea menjadi serenity, sustainability and spirituality.

The research uses sequential mixed methods strategies, especially explanatory sequential strategies with the aim to determine trends, growth and the influence of tourist visits on tourism employment in Banten period 1999-2018, using data time series through testing Johannsen co-integration and Granger causality. The results showed that the travel of domestic tourists had a long-term effect and had a large impact on the employment of the tourism sector in Banten province as evidenced by Johannsen cointegration and Granger causality testing. Domestic tourists in the plot pattern formed an upward trend and over time the number of domestic tourists tended to continue to increase, but in 2009 to 2010 there appeared to be a rapid surge in domestic tourists. Foreign tourist visits in the last 20 years experienced the highest growth in 2017 at 403,463 foreign tourist visits and decreased by 18.95% in 2018 to 327,003 visits.
The results of the study have decreased in the number of tourist visits to Banten province that occurred in 2018, one of the causes was the level 2 (alert) status of Gunung Anak Krakatau set by the government and the occurrence of natural disasters that caused tsunamis in the coastal area of Banten in 2018. A shift in tourism trends, which is from the motivation of having fun being looking for new experiences. This tourism paradigm shifted from sun, sand and sea to serenity, sustainability and spirituality. There are two autonomous districts that occurred in Banten Province in 2007 and 2008 had an impact on increasing employment in the newly created regions, with the standing of many autonomous regional government agencies and the business sector, as well as economic growth.
