Sumatra is home to at least six species of wild felids. Habitat loss and poaching are the main threat to the wild felids in Sumatra. Management strategy based on solid information and local community support are important factors for the success of wild felids conservation. The purposes of this study are to collect ecological data and to reveal local communities support for wild felids conservation in the Way Kambas National Park (WKNP). Ecological data were collected by placing camera traps in an area of 480 km square which is divided into three blocks of sampling. Data of local communities support to wild felids conservation were collected using structured interviews to 395 respondents living in 19 villages around the park. The results showed that wild felids species diversity in this stydy is lower compared to those of previous surveys. Only four wild felids were found in this study i.e., sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), clouded leopard (Neofelis diardi), marbled cat (Pardofelis marmorota) and leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis). Two other species i.e., golden cat (Pardofelis temincki) and flat-headed cat (Prionailurus planiceps) were not found. In general, ecology of the four species of wild felids in this park is in accordance with literature and several earlier studies in Sumatra. Despite the low level of local communitie’s knowledge both on the parks and wild felids, their perception and attitude towards wild felids conservation are positive. Ecological information resulted from this study serve as important input to develop the wild felids management plan especially in terms of species protection, monitoring and habitat restoration. To ehance the local community support toward wild felids conservation, it is essential to improve the level of local community knowledge towards national parks and wild felids conservation through conservation education, socialization, and community empowerment by considering social and demographic characteristics of the local people, including their experience in interacting with the park."

The threats of poaching, illegal trade, and habitat destruction putting the Sunda Pangolin Manis javanica, Desmarest 1822 as one of the critically endangered mammal species. Meanwhile, information about this species is not widely available and thus make conservation efforts of sunda pangolin is more complicated. This research was conducted to study the habitat use of sunda pangolin in Way Canguk Research Station, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, Lampung, Sumatra, Indonesia. The data of the sunda pangolins were taken from sixty camera traps deployed during 2010 to 2017, the data then analyzed using occupancy modeling through PRESENCE software to obtain the value of Proportion of Area Occupied PAO.
Occupancy analysis based on the presence and absence detection non detection of sunda pangolin in camera traps resulted in PAO values of 0.769 0.005 and detection probability values 0.040 0.005. Factor that affected the occupancy of sunda pangolin is the presence of liana in the trees 0.212 0.256, and factors that affecting the probability of detection are mean DBH of trees, feeding source, the number of tree species, the percentage of understorey, the percentage of canopy cover, and the presence of human.

"Asian tropical forests are among the most diverse on the planet, a richness that belies the fact that they are dominated by a single tropical tree family, the Dipterocarpaceae. Many other families contribute to Asias natural diversity, but few compare to the dipterocarps in the number and variety of species that occupy the forest canopy. Understanding the ecology and dynamics of Asian forests is, to a very great extent, a study of the Dipterocarpaceae. This book synthesizes current knowledge on the dipterocarps. The family is explored through ecological, evolutionary, and biogeographic perspectives. The variety of dipterocarp forest formations in both the ever-wet and seasonal tropics is described, with due consideration given to the poorly known African and South American dipterocarp species. The considerable progress on the phylogeny and biogeography of the family is synthesized. A chapter on dipterocarp reproductive ecology, and particularly masting behaviour, reflects the considerable research interest attributed to this subject and its importance in shaping the ecology of Asian lowland rain forests in particular. Ecophysiological responses to light, water, and nutrients, which underlie mechanisms that maintain dipterocarp species richness, are addressed in separate chapters. At broader scales, dipterocarp responses to variation in soil, topography, climate, and natural disturbance regimes are explored from population and community perspectives in two additional chapters. The book concludes with a consideration of the economic values of dipterocarps and the recent and ongoing threats to dipterocarp forests. Looking to the future, a scientific foundation is required to capitalize on opportunities for conservation and restoration, and it is this to which this book aims to contribute."

Research on the structure of macrozoobenthos communities in mangrove ecosystems has been conducted in Cilamaya Wetan, Karawang, West Java in May 2019. This study aims to determine the structure of macrozoobenthos community such as composition, density, diversity, flatness, flatness, dominance, and frequency of attendance. . Another goal is to determine the relationship between mangrove density and the density and diversity of macrozoobenthos in the area. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling and using the quadratic transect method at three stations, namely Muara Baru Village, West Tangkolak Village, and East Tangkolak Village. This study found 16 types of macrozoobenthos and 7 types of mangrove with very dense density (0.23-0.32 ind / m2). The highest density of macrozoobenthos is in West Tangkolak Village (8 ind / m2) and the lowest in Muara Baru Village (2 ind / m2). The diversity of macrozoobenthos is relatively high in the village of West Tangkolak with an index of 1.58 and the village of East Tangkolak with an index of 2.05, while the diversity is relatively low in the village of Muara Baru with an index of 0.28. The distribution of macrozoobenthos is classified almost evenly in the Village of West Tangkolak and the Village of East Tangkolak with a trade index of 0.88 and 0.85 respectively, while it is distributed equally in the Muara Baru Village with a pride index of 0.59. Data shows that there are no species that dominate in the villages of West Tangkolak and East Tangkolak, except in Muara Baru Village. Palawanense Episesarma is macrozoobenthos which has the highest attendance frequency in Muara Baru Village with a frequency of 27.7%. Environmental parameters including temperature, pH, and salinity are considered normal categories for macrozoobenthos and mangrove life. The results showed that mangrove density was related to macrozoobenthos density and diversity."

"Annotation the history of interest and practice in insect conservation is summarised and traced through contributions from many of the leaders in the discipline, to provide the first broad global account of how insects have become incorporated into considerations of conservation. The essays collectively cover the genesis and development of insect conservation, emphasising its strong foundation within the northern temperate regions and the contrasts with much of the rest of the world. Major present-day scenarios are discussed, together with possible developments and priorities in insect conservation for the future."
