"This book discusses the implementation of digital circuits by using MCML gates. Although digital circuit implementation is possible with other elements, such as CMOS gates, MCML implementations can provide superior performance in certain applications. This book provides a complete automation methodology for the implementation of digital circuits in MCML and provides an extensive explanation on the technical details of design of MCML. A systematic methodology is presented to build efficient MCML standard-cell libraries, and a complete top-down design flow is shown to implement complex systems using such building blocks."

"This book describes reliable and efficient design automation techniques for the design and implementation of an approximate computing system. The authors address the important facets of approximate computing hardware design - from formal verification and error guarantees to synthesis and test of approximation systems. They provide algorithms and methodologies based on classical formal verification, synthesis and test techniques for an approximate computing IC design flow. This is one of the first books in Approximate Computing that addresses the design automation aspects, aiming for not only sketching the possibility, but providing a comprehensive overview of different tasks and especially how they can be implemented."

"This book reports on topics at the interface between manufacturing, mechanical and chemical engineering. It gives a special emphasis to CAD/CAE systems, information management systems, advanced numerical simulation methods and computational modeling techniques, and their use in product design, industrial process optimization and in the study of the properties of solids, structures and fluids. Control theory, ICT for engineering education as well as ecological design and food technologies are also among the topics discussed in the book. Based on the International Conference on Design, Simulation, Manufacturing: The Innovation Exchange (DSMIE-2018), held on June 12-15, 2018, in Sumy, Ukraine, the book provides academics and professionals with a timely overview and extensive information on trends and technologies behind current and future developments of Industry 4.0, innovative design and renewable energy generation."

"An active Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tag is a low-power device, which is often used as a tracking device, where operation of this tag will be in remote areas from an electrical power source. Therefore, this device requires an independent power source. To meet these needs, solar power may be used, which can be accessed anywhere there is sunlight. Supercapacitors (SC) are used as an energy source to support a solar power system. The advantage of supercapacitors, as an energy storage device, is their long life cycle that means more charging and discharging processes compared to a conventional battery. The design and fabrication of a solar power system for an active RFID tag with supercapacitors as the energy storage will be covered in this paper."

"In this paper, two highly
sensitive photonic crystal fiber (PCF) structures with microstructure core and cladding
have been demonstrated for Ethanol sensing. The
microstructure core of both proposed
PCFs is designed with supplementary holes in an octagonal formation. We have investigated the
relative sensitivity and the confinement loss of the proposed PCF structures
employing a full
vectorial finite element method (FEM). The proposed PCFs work at a wide
transmission band covering 0.8 µm to 2 µm and exhibit high sensitivity and low
confinement loss simultaneously. The numerical analysis shows that the circular shape of air holes in the first ring is a more
salient attribute for
increasing sensitivity and the presence of the square shape of air holes in the first ring shows
better performance to reduce confinement loss."

"A mechanical assembly consists of several components to perform an intended function. At the design stage, the intended function must be converted into critical product dimensions. After determining the dimensions, a designer must determine the assembly tolerance and allocate this tolerance to the tolerances of the corresponding components. After determining the optimal tolerances, process selection must be conducted along with production allocation to the selected process. There are three aspects in commercial competition that must be considered by a manufacturing company: cost, quality, and delivery. The aim of this research is to develop an optimization model for process selection for a make to order company to minimize manufacturing cost, quality loss, and lateness cost. The model attempts to determine optimal tolerance and production allocation, which takes into consideration the production capacity and process sequence. Hence, the model attempts to include not only the product design decision, but also to solve the process selection and allocation problems. A numerical example is provided to show the implementation of the model."

"We propose a simple design of 1×3 optical power splitter which uses gallium nitride (GaN) on sapphire. The design consists of widely used large cross section input rib waveguide, a rectangular multimode interference (MMI) structure, and three-branch rib waveguides. The MMI structure is selected since their attractive performances, such as compactness, low excess loss, wide bandwidth and ease to fabricate. The power splitter is designed for the third telecommunication window, i.e., l = 1.55 µm. Optimization of the geometrical structure parameters for the design is conducted theoretically utilizing 3D FD-BPM method. It is found that the power splitter exhibits excess loss of 0.46 dB and imbalanced of 0.001 dB at l = 1.55 µm for ..."
