"This book provides some regional aspects considered by manufacturing firms in their decisions to gain competitiveness and have effects on the performance of their supply chains (SC). Some of the main aspects considered are: government's policies, fixed costs, the availability and quality of infrastructure services. This book also discusses the risks for the SC; based on a perception approach, some aspects studied are: demand, suppliers and production processes and how these are related to other elements of the SC. The authors use structural modeling to analyze the evaluation of some manufacturing practices and their impact on customer service satisfaction, agility and flexibility of the SC. The context of this study is immersed in the Mexican manufacturing industry of exportation, also known as maquiladora industry of Ciudad Juarez, México. This borderland is among the top 10 manufacturing Mexican cities. World class industries are located in this region and have been recognized around the world for their competitiveness and high performance. Therefore, the methods and results exposed in this book may be valuable and useful for readers and researchers of the SC worldwide."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui produktivitas suatu proses produksi pada Industri Manufaktur Stamping. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa equipment losses merupakan salah satu permasalahan yang sesungguhnya, sehingga tindakan perbaikan difokuskan pada permasalahan ini. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), dari hasil perhitungan OEE diperoleh nilai yang sangat rendah sebesar 75% tidak mencapai standar World Class 85%. Berdasarkan hasil analisa menggunakan diagram pareto, kerugian losses paling mempengaruhi rendahnya nilai OEE yaitu performance losses dan waktu setup mesin. Pengurangan waktu setup dilakukan dengan penerapan konsep Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) dengan memisahkan setup internal dan setup eksternal yang menghasilkan pengurangan waktu sebesar 30%.

This study aims to determine the productivity of a production process in the Stamping Manufacturing Industry. This study found that equipment losses are one of the real problems, so corrective action is focused on this problem. In this study using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method, from the results of the OEE calculation, a very low value of 75% did not reach the 85% World Class standard. Based on the results of the analysis using the Pareto diagram, the losses that most affect the low OEE value are performance losses and machine setup time. The reduction in setup time is done by applying the Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) concept by separating the internal setup and external setup which results in a 30% reduction in time."

"Proses produksi sebuah produk saat ini sudah mulai merambah ke aspek lingkungan. Hal ini disebabkan banyaknya isu lingkungan yang ramai dibicarakan di masyarakat sehingga aspek lingkungan ini akan menjadi parameter yang cukup penting dari sisi perspektif pelanggan. Untuk menjaga nilai aspek lingkungan tersebut dapat digunakan sistem produksi rantai tertutup (closed loop supply chain) yang dapat meminimalisasi penggunaan sumber daya alam. Selain itu, secara teori, penerapan rantai suplai loop tertutup merupakan salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dari penggunaan bahan baku dari sebuah lini produksi yang akan dapat mengurangi jumlah bahan baku yang digunakan untuk keperluan produksi. Akan tetapi dalam penerapannya closed loop supply chain masih memiliki banyak kendala. Salah satunya adalah dalam hal perencanaan inventory.Karena pengembalian produk dari returnable product berfluktuasi, maka kapasitas inventory yang optimal dari returnable product tersebut sulit untuk ditentukan. Untuk memecahkan masalah ini dapat digunakan metode fixed time period model dan discrete event modelling. Dengan menggunakan discrete event modelling pola pergerakan returnable products akan dapat di telusuri dengan melihat faktor-faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi produksi dan dengan metode fixed time period model akan dapat ditentukan jumlah quantity order yang optimal pada suatu rentang waktu.

Production process of products today not only focused on quality and quantity, but also start to concern the environmental issues. "Environmental issues" become an important aspect from the costumer?s perspective. In order to perserve this environmental aspects, closed-loop supply chain become a popular concept in this recent decades. Through closed-loop supply chain, the usage of natural resources could be reduced. Further to production line, the implementation of closed-loop supply chain is one way to improve the efficiency level of raw materials usage of a production line. Because, in closed-loop supply chain, the used product that collected from the costumer will be used again for next production process. However, the implementation of closed loop supply chain still has many obstacle, inventory planning is one of considered obstacles. This problem happened due to uncertainity of returning rate of returnable product that resulting inaccuracy of inventory planning. In order to solve this problem, the combination of discrete event modelling and fixed time period model approach can be used. Through discrete event modelling, the movement pattern and factors of retunable product can be traced and through fixed time period model can be determined the optimum order quantity in certain time limit."

"Peluang mengembalikan kejayaan industri coklat Indonesia di level dunia masih terbuka luas dengan mulai bertumbuhnya industri artisan coklat yang memiliki posisi yang baik dalam menggerakkan industri yang ramah lingkungan dengan produk yang berkualitas tinggi dibandingkan dengan industri coklat komoditas yang telah lama dikenal praktik produksinya yang tidak berkelanjutan. Industri artisan coklat turut mendorong semangat petani kakao untuk mendapatkan pendapatan yang lebih tinggi dengan pemenuhan standar kualitas. Pemerintah telah mulai melirik dan mendorong sektor industri artisan coklat ini untuk bertumbuh. Penelitian ini mengembangkan sebuah model kebijakan dengan mempertimbangkan aspek keberlanjutan di sepanjang rantai pasok makanan pertanian yang memiliki karakteristik multi-aktor dengan menggunakan pendekatan model sistem dinamik dengan integrasi data kinerja lingkungan dengan pendekatan life cycle assessment. Hasil simulasi memberikan konfirmasi adanya saling pengaruh antar ketiga aspek berkelanjutan yaitu ekonomi, lingkungan dan sosial, terutama dari tiga skenario yang yaitu skenario kemakmuran ekonomi, kelestarian lingkungan dan kesejahteraan sosial. Secara umum hasil simulasi menunjukkan adanya peluang peningkatan kesejahteraan namun tanpa adanya dukungan tambahan dan insentif kepada petani, keberlanjutan sulit untuk dicapai. Sebagai tambahan, model kebijakan yang dihasilkan dapat dijadikan instrumen pendukung keputusan untuk pembuatan kebijakan pengelolaan rantai pasok sektor industri artisan produk makanan pertanian secara umum.

The opportunity to reinstate the glory of the Indonesian chocolate industry at the world level is widely open due to the growth of the artisanal chocolate industry, which is well-positioned to move the chocolate industry in the direction of improved environmentally conscious production practices and higher-quality products comparing the commodity chocolate industry has been long recognized for unsustainable. The artisanal chocolate industry encourages cocoa farmers to earn higher incomes by fulfilling quality standards. The government has started to pay more attention and promote the artisanal chocolate industry sector to develop in the future. This study developed a policy multi-actor model based on a system dynamics approach by considering sustainability aspects along the agri-food supply chain by integrating environmental performance through a life cycle assessment approach. The simulation results of this model showed the mutual influence between the three aspects of sustainability, namely economic, environmental, and social, by examining three scenarios that are expected to meet the three sustainability principles: economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. The simulation also shows that although there are opportunities to increase welfare, sustainability is difficult to achieve without additional support and incentives for farmers. In addition, our policy model can be used as a decision-support tool, specifically in the chocolate industry and for similar artisan food and agriculture sectors that mostly have a similar supply chain."
