This thesis discusses adaptive reuse of museums as a conservation strategy for cultural heritage buildings, emphasizing interventions that adapt buildings to contemporary contexts. Museums typically house historical collections and cultural heritage buildings with historical value, which face contemporary elements through adaptive reuse actions. Such interventions create juxtaposition or contrast between old buildings and new elements or structures. Despite these contrasts, a successful adaptive reuse process is evaluated when they harmoniously blend together. Supported by theories such as Stewart Brand's Shearing Layers, Francois Bollack's "Old Buildings/New Forms," and Carmona, Rogers, and Tiesdell's "Harmony in Juxtaposition," this thesis thoroughly examines these topics through two case studies: The British Museum and the Dresden Military History Museum. These case studies explore how the adaptive reuse process operates and how such juxtaposition influences the buildings and their surroundings."

"Due to the continuing expansion of the notion of security, various national, regional and international institutions now find themselves addressing contemporary security issues. While institutions may evolve by adjusting themselves to new challenges, they can also fundamentally alter the intricate balance between security and current legal frameworks. This volume explores the tensions that occur when institutions address contemporary security threats, in both public and international law contexts. As part of the Connecting International with Public Law series, it provides important and valuable insights into the legal issues and perspectives which surround the institutional responses to contemporary security challenges. It is essential reading for scholars, practitioners and policy makers seeking to understand the legal significance of security institutions and the implications of their evolution on the rule of law and legitimacy."
