"Evaluation of Indonesian foreign policy leads us to assess the following: Firstly, since the Soeharto era we have had close relations with the Western countries, we have enjoyed billions US dollars on loans, held technical co-operations in various aspects, we have oil reserves, LNG and other potential natural resources; but as result of the multidimensional crisis in 1997-1999, our economic an business activities, as well as financial and banking systems, have been ruined. Secondly, the the following administrations (B.J, Habibie, Abdurrahman Wahid and Megawati Soekarnoputri, 1990 & 2004) were not able to do much, let alone restore Indonesia to its former position as a respect country among the ASEAN community. Thus, Indonesia has continued to deal mainly with id problems of internal crises and undeniably, has become increasingly dependent of the mercy Western countries (including the donor agencies and international financial institutions) regarding financial loans and other economic aids. This article is aimed to explain: (a) the meaning of the the "weak state" (b) what can Indonesia do with its foreign policy, which inevitably has to compromise with the "Weak State" condition? (c) what are the policies that should be implemented so that wet come out of the delicate situation?."

"The following article discusses the issue of terrorism viewed from the Indonesian foreign policy perspective. The 9/11 tragedy, which highlights terrorism as a new major threat to the international community, has greatly challenged Indonesia in conducting its foreign policy. On one hand, Indonesia's active participation on the U.S.-led "War on Terrorism" is highly demanded. The step needs to be taken by Megawati government as a proof to the international society that Indonesia is never a supporter of terrorists' activities. On the other hand, in executing the foreign policy related to issue of counter-terrorism, the government must act very carefully in order to avoid the pitfalls of negative, domestic sentiments which might endanger the ongoing process of democratization at home and lead to the possibility of becoming a "failed state.""

"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini menelaah tentang kebijaksanaan politik luar negeri Australia terhadap Pasifik Selatan dengan I. periode yang dibatasi hingga tahun 1985. Dewasa itu, Australia berhasil memperoleh persetujuan dari negara-negara anggota Forum Pasifik Selatan bagi rancangan pembentukan suatu wilayah Bebas nuklir di kawasan tersebut. Tujuan penulisan skripsi ini ialah untuk memperoleh gambaran dan untuk mengetahui lebih banyak mengenai tindakan yang diambil oleh Australia dalam menghadapi perkembangan yang terjadi di Kawasan Pasifik Selatan. Perkembangan ini berkisar pada masalah denuklirisasi, dekolonisasi dan pemberlakuan zona ekonomi ekslusif di kawasan tersebut. Pasifik Selatan sebagai wilayah yang berdekatan dengan Australia merupakan kawasan yang tidak terlepas dari perhatian pejabat pemerintahan di Canberra. Perkembangan & ataupun persoalan yang timbul dikawasan tersebut, baik dalam bidang ekonomi, politik dan sosial dipandang sebagai sesuatu yang dapat mengancam kepentingan Australia dan sekutu utamanya, yakni Amerika Serikat, dikawasan tersebut. Penelaahan dalam tulisan ini berpatokan pada teori perimbangan kekuatan. Usaha-usaha untuk mempertahankan dan mengurangi pengaruh suatu negara dalam suatu kawasan lingkup pengaruh dan cara-cara yang digunakan dalam mencapai tujuan diatas menjadi sorotan dalam penulisan ini."
