"Universitas terbuka (UT) as a higher open and distance education institution has been carrying out students' assessment in the form of paper and pencil and online examinations. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the Online Examination System (Sistem Ujian Online=SUO), in terms of the reliability (robustness) of SUO applications, the readiness of Human Resources in implementing an online exam, the infrastructure that supporting SUO, and the student responses. The results showed that SUO application and support application had been well developed by UT, proven that SUO have been in operation in 30 out of 37 UT regional centers in 2010. Students did not face many problems in registering in the online exam. Infrastructure and human resources were considered satisfctory. Respondents also said that SUO was very flexible in terms of choosing the exam schedule and getting the immadiate feedback. Based on the research results, a SUO model is described in several bussness processes, which include the preparation, execution, processing exam result, as well as supervision and evaluation. In the future UT still needs to improves facilities, infrastructure and quality of human resources that can support the online exam. The implementation of online exam relies heavily on information technology (IT) and it is expected that SUO is adaptable with this rapidly changed technology."

"Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan model tutorial disampaikan melalui video conference. Sebuah model evaluasi formatif dari Dick, Carey, dan Carey dilaksanakan dalam penelitian perkembangan ini. Model formatif terdiri dari beberapa tahap sistematis seperti: analisis kebutuhan, merancang prototipe program, satu-ke-satu mencoba dengan individu siswa dan evaluasi kelompok kecil. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahan pembelajaran video conference harus dirancang dan dikembangkan berdasarkan beberapa faktor-tujuan instruksional, potensi konferensi video sebagai sistem pengiriman, tentu saja characteristics dan instruksional dukungan media."

"Informasi tentang kandungan bahan organik (BO) diperlukan untuk pemantauan dan pengelolaan lingkungan serta digunakan dalam praktek budidaya tanaman. Dalam penelitian ini dicobakan untuk memetakan kandungan bahan organik tanah di daerah Malang Selatan dengan menggunakan teknik penginderaan jauh (inderaja). Data inderaja yang digunakan adalah citra Landsat TM (Thematic Mapper) (band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7). dan dipilih area yang memiliki nilai Normalized Difference Soil Index (NDSI) lebih dari 0,3. Data ground-truth diperoleh dengan menganalisis kandungan BO dan contoh-contoh tanah dengan menggunakan metode Black-Walkey.Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan nilai derajat keabuan dan citra asli dapat digunakan untuk menduga kandungan bahan organik tanah. Penerapan persamaan regresi dengan menggunakan nilai derajat keabuan citra asli untuk menduga kandungan bahan organik tanah memperlihatkan bahwa tanah di daerah penelitian umumnya memiliki kandungan bahan organik sedang (meliputi 63,18% dari luas area penelitian).

Application of Remote Sensing for Mapping Soil Organic Matter Content. Information organic content is important in monitoring and managing the environment as well as doing agricultural production activities. This research tried to map soil organic content in Malang using remote sensing technology. The research uses 6 bands of data captured by Landsat TM (Thematic Mapper) satellite (band 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7). The research focuses on pixels having Normalized Difference Soil Index (NDSI) more than 0.3. Ground-truth data were collected by analysing organic content of soil samples using Black-Walkey method.The result of analysis shows that digital number of original satellite image can be used to predict soil organic matter content. The implementation of regression equation in predicting soil organic content shows that 63.18% of research area contains of organic in a moderate category."

"It is widely accepted that education is one important sector in human life espicially related to access and participation. However , Indonesia sill faces problem in relation to equal education access for boys is higher than rhose for girls. This situation shows, to some point, hind rents the Indonesia government to provide equal education for man and woman as one target of the United Nation's Millenium Declaration. It is the necessary to take a look at policies of Indonesia government on education and how the policies influence women participation in education. One of the government policies which could benefit women is the acknowledgeement of distance education (DE) in Indonesia educational system. This paper discusses how DE could benefit women by providing wider access to education. For illustration , this paper provides analysis of roles and performances of Universitas Terbuka , a state national higher education which fully implements DE system, in relation to efforts to increase access and participation of women in education, espicially in higher education."
