"Human teeth enamel have been irradiated with gamma radiation from Co60 at room temperature and at liquid nitrogen temperature. Paramagnetic centers are formed and have been detected by using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer at room temperature. The main signal is very stable asymmetric singlet, and attributed to h centers in the hydroxyapatite crystals. It is revealed that several factors influence the amplitude of the asymmetric signal. The amplitude and pattern of the asymmetric signal which depend on the orientation of the sample with respect to the magnetic field are analyzed. Based on the properties of the asymmetric signal the difference between the microcrystal arrangement of healthy and diseased teeth are explained."

"In his thesis, Matthias Junk takes an innovative approach to assess the local structure and dynamics of biological and synthetic amphiphilic macromolecules capable of transporting small molecules. Replacing the latter with stable radicals, he uses state-of-the-art electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy to describe the highly relevant transport function from the viewpoint of the guest molecules. Such, he demonstrates that the functional structure of human serum albumin in solution significantly differs from its crystal structure, a consequence of the protein’s adaptability to host various endogenous compounds and drug molecules. Further, he shows that the thermal collapse of thermoresponsive hydrogels and dendronized polymers leads to static and dynamic heterogeneities on the nanoscale. These heterogeneities bear consequences for the material’s hosting properties and enable unforeseen complex catalytic functionalities."

"Hasil pengamatan Resonansi Spin Elektron (RSE) pads bahan YBa2Cu3O6i yang dapat menunjukkan efek Meissner pada 77 K ternyata memberikan indikasi bahwa spektrum RSE berasal dari ion Cue+ dengan spin S = 0,5. Pengamatan dilakukan pada pita-X (frekuensi 9,204 Ghz) dan pada suhu kamar. Spektrum RSE menunjukkan adanya faktor Lande g anisotrop dan adanya pergeseran nilai g terhadap elektron babas (gc=2,0023). Harga-harga g yang terukur yaitu: g,,=2,038 , g,,= 2,117, dan gr= 2,219. Selain itu, spektrum RSE menunjukkan lebar kurva yang juga anisotrop. Data pengamatan yang diperoleh hanya memperlihatkan tiga nilai ekstrim lebar kurva RSE, mengingat bahan yang digunakan adalah poli kristal. Lebar kurva yang terukur adalah:
qHpp, = 73 Gauss, 6Hppy = 78 Gauss dan 6Hpp, = 61 Gauss.
Analisis teoritik dilakukan dengan pendekatan model 1 dimensi. Hasil analisis lebar kurva yang paling sesuai dengan hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa: Proses relaksasi spin-spin (yang mempengaruhi lebar kurva RSE) terjadi melalui tranformasi energi dart reservoar Zeeman ke reservoar pertukaran (exchange). Dalam proses relaksasi ini dapat terjadi ketergantungan terhadap posisi bahan (anisotropi), karena terpengaruh oleh energi perturbasi yang sifatnya anisotrop. Energi perturbasi yang pengaruhnya dominan adalah interaksi pertukaran antisimetri (d-=4,6 10`° Hz), interaksi dipolar (rod = 1,5 .101° Hz) dan interaksi pertukaran simetri anisotrop (De=6,1 .109 Hz). "
