"ABSTRAK
A micro optical branching circuit [MOBC] array by the use of planar micro lens array and a cubical beam splitter was proposed in a previous study. To study further the performance of the elements of the branching array, the constructed circuit has been implemented by modulating three optical signals on different wave lengths of carrier waves transmitted by LD optical sources. The measurement on coupling efficiency gives a value of 36,4 % which is uniform for the three channels of the branching circuit. The branching circuit also shows a negligible cross-talk on the branched signals. It is summarized that the proposed MOBC implemented by modulated signals can be used in practice. The insertion loss could be reduced by appropriate positioning of each elements to achieve optimum focusing and collimating beams.

"A concept of phase space is usable to evaluate the characteristics of various components in microoptics engineering. In this study, a microoptical branching circuit by the use of three identical micro lenses has been constructed, for the purpose of dividing an input light beam into two outputs transmission and reflection beams, respectively.
Mode distribution of input and output beams is, represented by using phase space configuration. By computer simulation, the concept of phase space has been used to predict mode conversion of light guiding in the circuit.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the mode property in each element of the circuit, by measuring the far field mode distribution of the guided light. The existence of mode conversion in a particular element can be observed from the change of the respective made distribution.
The experimental result shows a good agreement with that obtained by simulation of light guiding. It is concluded that, phase space representation derived from ray optics can be utilized as a software in analysis of wave guiding."

"ABSTRACT
An experimental micro optical branching circuit (HCBC) array has been constructed by the use of planar microlens. Three substrates of 3x1 nicrolens array have been used as collimating and focusing elements in the proposed circuit. A cube beam splitter was utilized as branching element with a branching ratio 1:1, for reflecting and transmitting beams, respectively. Evaluation has been carried out by measuring the coupling efficiency of the proposed HOBC. The branching characteristic for digital modulated signal has also been carried out. Theoretical calculations was taken into account for evaluating the performance of the branching circuit.

"ABSTRAK
In the optical communication system, we usually use
some optical components consisting oF very small lenses
ior coupling, branching, and transmitting lightwaves.
Optical Fiber communication system has reached an
integrated optical circuitry by utilizing optical
elements with distributed-index medium. On the other
hand, a concept of stacked planar optics has been
developed based on the characteristics of distributed
index medium in planar optical elements. A group of
optical components which is known as microoptics is now
a further development for realizing suitable microlenses
for the purpose oi optimizing such components. For
iocusing and imaging components, microlenses such as
distributed-index (DI) or gradient-index (GRIN) rod
microlenses , tiny spherical lenses,and similar optics
have been utilized.
In this research work I have studied the
applicability of planar microlenses as microoptic
component. Two examples of such components are the
branching circuit and the fiber coupler for working
systems in optical fiber communications have been
designed and constructed. I have also studied the
focusing property of planar microlens with beam deviation
method based on optical geometric concept.

"With the growth of optical communications using Low toss optical. fibers. the need for an optical switching system that exchanges optical. signals without any optoelectric and electro optic converter may arise. In this study, an experimental model of sliding prism switch using planar micro lens array has been constructed. The performance of the constructed switching device was studied by measuring insertion Loss. coupling efficiency and cross talk. The experiment shows that the measured results of insertion losses that is 6 and 7 dB are greater than the theoretically calculation that is 1.3 dB. The modulated signal has been measured as we t t ; the shape of the signal does not change after passing through the switch and on the other hand the amplitude of the output signal. is tower than the input signal due to the transmission Loss. I t is concluded that the experimental model of sliding prism demonstrate the potential application of planar micro lens in optical switch device."

"Pada skripsi ini telah dirancang antena mikrostrip p\anar array segiempat 16 elemen dengan teknik pencatuan direct. Antena ini memiliki frekuensi kerja 1.7 GHz. Antena bentuk array ini terdiri dari 4 sub-array yang masing-masing sub-array terdiri dari 4 elemen.
Karakteristik yang diamati pada skripsi ini adalah bandwidth, Return Loss/VSWR, dan gain. Perancangan antena menggunakan simulasi dengan soiiware microwave office 2002 v5.00 dengan simulasi pada PCAAD 3.0 menggunakan metode cavity.
Dari hasil simulasi dan pengukuran diperoleh bahwa antena bentuk planar array segiempat ini memiliki bandwidth sebesar 19.14 MHz dengan impedansi karakteristik sebesar 36.58 - j 17.95 dan gain yang didapatkan sebesar 16.89 dB, naiuk 9.00 dB dari antena planar array 4 elemen dengan gainnya 7.89 dB."
