"Tesis ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan sebab-sebab terjadinya perubahan maskot kampus Southwestern College (SWC) di California pada tahun 2001.
Sebagaimana layaknya sekolah-sekolah dan perguruan-perguruan tinggi di Amerika, SWC yang didirikan pada tahun 1961 mempunyai maskot, khususnya untuk tim olah raganya. Maskot SWC adalah The Apaches, nama salah satu suku Indian di Amerika Karena The Apaches adalah nama suku, maka pemakaian tersebut diprotes oleh Orang Indian. Manusia tidak boleh dijadikan maskot dan nama julukan karena hal itu merupakan sebuah bentuk penghinaan. Akhirnya pada tahun 2001 SWC mengganti maskotnya dari The Apaches menjadi The Jaguar. Jaguar yang merupakan nama hewan diharapkan tidak lagi mendatangkan protes karena nama-nama hewan boleh dijadikan maskot dan nama julukan.
Untuk membahas masalah tersebut digunakan beberapa konsep yaitu konsep simbol, konsep maskot (khususnya mengenai maskot yang berhubungan dengan kebudayaan Indian), konsep identitas, serta konsep multikulturalisme.
Tesis ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode kajian kepustakaan. Teknik yang digunakan adalah teknik deslaiptif-interpretatif. Data yang tersedia dianalisis untuk memahami masalah masalah yang terdapat di balik gejala-gejala yang tampak di permukaan.
Melalui analisis terlihat bahwa perubahan maskot SWC di California dari The Apaches menjadi The Jaguar pada tahun 2001 terjadi karena adanya kesadaran akan keragaman budaya dan penghargaan terhadap perbedaan. Perubahan tersebut juga tidak terlepas dan. fakor-faktor politik, ekonomi dan sosial-budaya yang ada pada masyarakat Amerika.

This thesis aims to show the reasons of the mascot change which took place in Southwestern College (SWC), California in 2001. As most schools, colleges, and universities in USA do, SWC which was established in 1961 also has a mascot, especially for their athletic teams. SWC's mascot is The Apaches, which is derived from the name of one of the Native American tribes. Because of that, this use provoques protests from Indian people. They say that using them as mascot is an insult Finally in 200I SWC changed their mascot from The Apaches to The Jaguar. Jaguar is an animal therefore there should be no more protest because the names of animals are allowed to be adopted as mascot.
To analyze this problem several concepts are used. They are the concepts of symbol, mascot -especially those belong to Indian culture-, concepts of identity and multiculturalism
This thesis is a qualitative research which applies a library study. The technique applied is a descriptive-interpretative technique. The data is analyzed in order to understand the problems which exist beyond the phenomenons.
The analysis proves that the reason of the mascot change in SWC in 2001 is the awareness of cultural diversity and the appreciation of difference. The change is also related to the political, economic, and socio-cultural context of American society.

"ABSTRAK
Manusia sejak dahulu telah melakukan antropomorfisme kepada objek di sekitarnya sebagai cara untuk lebih mengenal serta untuk lebih bersiaga akan datangnya bahaya. Seiring berjalannya waktu, kecenderungan manusia untuk memberikan karakteristik pada objek yang bukan manusia dipakai sebagai salah satu cara untuk mempromosikan suatu objek agar lebih mudah diterima oleh manusia. Gotouchi-kyara merupakan salah satu fenomena budaya populer Jepang yang merupakan maskot dengan sifat antropomorfis. Dewasa ini gotouchi-kyara semakin populer di kalangan masyarakat hingga beberapa di antaranya sering muncul di media televisi, salah satunya ialah Funasshi yang merupakan gotouchi-kyara tak resmi kota Funabashi. Sifat Funasshi yang berbeda dengan gotouchi-kyara lainnya, yaitu berbicara dan bertingkah laku lincah, merupakan sifat antropomorfis yang kemudian akan diteliti lebih lanjut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatam semiotika C.S. Peirce. Hasil yang dicapai dalam penelitian ini adalah sifat antropomorfis Funasshi yang memberikan nilai positif kepada penonton yang melihatnya membuat Funasshi semakin populer di kalangan masyarakat Jepang.

ABSTRACT
Long time ago, human has been using anthropomorphism as a way to familiarize themselves with unknown objects around them and also to be more aware of dangers that may come. As time goes by, human rsquo;s tendency to give human traits to non-human objects has became a way to promote that particular object in order to be easily accepted by customer. Gotouchi-kyara, an anthropomorfic costume character, is one of Japan rsquo;s popular culture phenomenons. Lately gotouchi-kyara become very popular in Japan and they start to appear at television, and one of them is Funasshi, a gotouchi-kyara from Funabashi city. This study focuses on Funasshi rsquo;s anthropomorphized behaviors that are quite distinctive than the other gotouchi-kyara as it likes to talk, and moving around vigorously. This study is conducted with qualitative method and uses C.S. Peirce rsquo;s semiotic approach. The result from this study shows that Funasshi rsquo;s anthropomorphic behaviors that give positive vibe to the viewers have made Funasshi becoming more popular in Japan."

"Jepang terkenal sebagai negara yang kuat dengan culture powernya. Salah satu produk budaya populer Jepang yang terkenal adalah yuru kyara. Yuru kyara merupakan maskot
unik dibuat untuk mempromosikan suatu event, organisasi, kota dan lain-lain. Penelitian ini membahas peran yuru kyara sebagai duta budaya oleh negara asing di Jepang, yaitu negara Israel, Amerika, Finlandia, Afganistan dan Thailand. Terdapat tiga langkah dalam penelitian ini, langkah pertama pengumpulan data yang bersumber dari buku, jurnal dan artikel yang membahas yuru kyara. Langkah kedua penentuan data yang relevan terkait
dengan diplomasi budaya Jepang dengan negara asing. Langkah ketiga menganalisa peran yuru kyara dari data yang telah ditentukan di langkah kedua. Ditemukan bahwa tiga negara yang lebih aktif dalam memanfaatkan peran yuru kyara, yaitu Israel, Amerika dan Finlandia. Israel memfokuskan pengunaan yuru kyara di bidang pariwisata, sedangkan Amerika di bidang pendidikan dan Finlandia di bidang pariwisata serta budaya. Negara Afganistan dan Thailand untuk saat ini belum memaksimalkan penggunaan yuru kyara dalam diplomasi budayanya. Disarankan dilakukan penelitian lanjutan mengenai persentase
keberhasilan yuru kyara diukur dari tiga faktor diplomasi budaya.
Japan is known as a strong country with culture power. One of the popular products of Japanese popular culture is Yuru kyara. Yuru kyara is a unique mascot created to promote an event, organization, city and others. This final project discusses the role of the yuru kyara as acultural ambassador from foreign countries in Japan, Israel, America, Finland, Afghanistan and Thailand. There are three steps in this final project, the first step
is collecting data sourced from books, journals and articles that discussed yuru kyara. The second step is the determination of relevant data related to Japanese cultural diplomacy with foreign countries. The third step is analyzes the role of the yuru kyara from the data
specified in the second step. It was found that three countries were more active in exploiting the role of yuru kyara is Israel, America and Finland. Israel focuses on the use of the yuru kyara in tourism, while America in education and Finland in tourism and culture. Afghanistan and Thailand have not yet maximized the use of yuru kyara in cultural diplomacy. It is recommended that further research be made related the percentage of success of the yuru kyara measured by three factors of cultural diplomacy.

"Berdasarkan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 6 tahun 2000 tentang Perusahaan Jawatan (Perjan), diterbitkan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 116-128 tahun 2000 tentang pendirian 13 rumah sakit menjadi Perusahaan Jawatan. Dasar pertimbangan perubahan status rumah sakit dari unit pelaksana teknis Departemen Kesehatan atau Instansi Pengguna Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak (PNBP) menjadi Perjan adalah dalam upaya meningkatkan daya saing dibidang pelayanan kesehatan pada era globalisasi dan guna kelancaran dan terjaminnya pelaksanaan pengelolaan rumah sakit secara ekonomis serta diperolehnya manfaat yang sebesar-besarnya bagi masyarakat.
Perubahan status rumah sakit dan instansi pengguna PNBP menjadi Perjan mengundang perbedaan persepsi bagi seseorang atau sekelompok orang, menimbulkan perbedaan pendapat dari berbagai kalangan baik pejabat Depkes maupun rumah sakit juga kalangan ilmuwan.
Dengan alasan tersebut peneliti tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian terhadap perbedaan persepsi/pendapat dengan melakukan penelitian pada kelompok manajemen keuangan di RSUP Fatmawati.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang persepsi kelompok manajemen keuangan RSUP Fatmawati terhadap perubahan status dari instansi pengguna PNBP menjadi Perjan.
Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan 10 informan yang terdiri dari manajemen puncak, menengah dan operasional yang bertindak sebagai subjek dan objek dari perubahan status.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada umumnya informan setuju terhadap perubahan status, namun diperlukan persiapan dan sosialisasi terhadap karyawan tentang Perjan mengenai kebijakan, struktur organisasi serta perencanaan anggaran dan laporan keuangan.
Peneliti berkesimpulan bahwa untuk perubahan status menjadi Perjan rumah sakit harus merubah paradigma, kebijakan dan struktur organisasi, kultur pegawai serta sistem pengelolaan keuangan.
Peneliti menyarankan agar dalam perubahan status menjadi Perjan perlu dilakukan perubahan visi dan misi sehingga mampu mamanuhi kepuasan pelanggan dan dapat memenuhi misi pemerintah dalam pemenuhan pelayanan kesehatan, budaya kerja mencerminkan corporate culture dengan menggabungkan sifat pegawai dengan misi organisasi rumah sakit, perlu perubahan sistim akutansi serta perlu adanya strategi perubahan kearah terbentuknya pengelolaan secara profesional.

Perception of Financial Management Group towards Modification of Hospital's Status from a Recipient of Non Tax State Fund Institution into Jawatan Company 2001Referring to Government Regulation no. 6, 2000, about Jawatan Company (Perjan), a Government Regulation no. 116-128, 2000 was issued on the establishment of 13 hospitals to become Perusahaan Jawatan. The rational of modifying the status of hospitals from technical implementation unit or Instansi Pengguna Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak (PNBP) into Perjan was in the attempt to improve the services for having better capacity towards globalization era. Furthermore, this is also to ensure an economical hospital management as well as to provide best services to community.
The conversion of hospital's status from PNBP into Perjan has triggered different perception either from individuals or group of people, resulted different opinions among Health Ministry officials, hospital personnel as well as scientists.
Based on the above situation the researcher was interested to search for the difference among various perception/opinion by conducting research to the division of financial management at Public Hospital Fatmawati.
Objective of this research was to gain information on different perception within the group of financial management at Public Hospital Fatmawati with regard to conversion of status from PNBP into Perjan.
The research was applying qualitative approach of which the data was collected through in-depth interview from 10 respondents consisting of high and medium level management and operation who are subject and object of the modification of status.
The data showed that the respondents were aware and agreed on the modification of status, however they consider the need for preparing the change and dissemination issues regarding Perjan covering the policy, the organization structure as well as budget allocation and financial report
The researcher concluded that for changing the status into Perjan, the hospital should adapt the paradigm, policy and organization structure, staff culture and system for financial management.
The researcher recommended that for changing the status into Perjan requires adaptation of vision and mission who could fulfill clients satisfaction in providing health services, reflect corporate culture by combining character of staffs with hospitals' mission, lead towards professional management through adaptation of accounting system."

"Skripsi ini membahas tentang kiprah muslimah keturunan Asia dalam kehidupan sosial-politik mereka di Amerika Serikat pada era 1990-an. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif dengan gaya bahasa deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kaum muslimah yang selama ini tampak termarginalisasi di mata berbagai kalangan terutama warga masyarakat Amerika Serikat sendiri, ternyata dalam kehidupannya mereka memiliki kiprah yang luar biasa serta sangat patut untuk dicontoh oleh semua perempuan. Mereka terlahir dan tumbuh dalam budaya yang sarat akan tantangan sehingga membentuk karakter mereka yang tampak kuat, independen dan egaliter.

Abstract
This thesis discusses about the role of muslim women of Asian descent in their social and political life in USA in the era 1990s. This research is qualitative with descriptive linguistic style. According to the research, it is concluded that muslim women who seem marginalized to various groups especially American people, actually have amazing role in their life and they are also eligible to be example for all women. They were born and grew up in such challenging culture that they seem so strong, independent and egaliterian in their character."
