"Tesis ini membahas kaitan antara ideologi teks yang ada di dua novel karya Liem Khing Hoo, Berjuang 1934 dan Merah 1937 , dengan situasi sosial, ekonomi, dan politik yang melingkupinya. Ideologi teks yang terdapat dalam dua karya tersebut berkenaan dengan komunisme dan konstruksi sosial masa kolonial. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua pendekatan, yaitu sosiologi sastra dan pascakolonial. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa kedua teks ini menolak tujuan politik yang dibawa oleh komunisme, yaitu menghancurkan sistem kolonial. Akan tetapi dalam Berjuang sistem ekonomi yang digagas oleh komunis, yaitu kepemilikan bersama, disetujui sehingga membentuk masyarakat tanpa kelas. Kedua teks ternyata melanggengkan konstruksi sosial yang membedakan kelas berdasarkan ras. Hal ini terlihat dari penggambaran Eropa yang selalu menempati posisi paling tinggi, serta ketiadaan interaksi antara Tionghoa peranakan dan pribumi.

This thesis examines the intercourse between the textual ideology with the surrounding social, economic, and political situation found in two novels by Liem Khing Hoo, Berjuang 1934 and Merah 1937 . The textual ideology contained in the two works relates to communism and social construction of the colonial period. The textual research uses two approaches, sociology of literature and postcolonialism. The result of this study shows that these two texts rejected the political objectives brought by communism to destruct the colonial system. However, Berjuang welcomed the idea of joint ownership as to form a classless society, which is the economic system initiated by the communists. In the other hands, both texts evidently perpetuate social constructs that distinguish classes based on race. This narration is depicted with the positional construction that always puts Europe at the top and the lack of interaction between the Chinese Peranakan with the indigenous people."
