"In a security perspective, the territory of Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region as a whole are strategic areas in economic, political and military aspects. This condition also has complex potential challenges and risks for creating tension among countries. After the Korean War and World War II the development of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula continued. North Korea chose to build and to increase its military capabilities. Indonesia as one of the adjacent countries to the Korean Peninsula, could get an impact to the sovereignty and security of the country. Especially caused by North Korea’s nuclear testing activities. This study aims to determine the form of Indonesian Defense Diplomacy and how the roles of the involved actors in responding to the issue. By using qualitative research methods, this study discusses the issue with constructivist theory and the concept of defense diplomacy for the analysis. The result of this research is a form of Indonesian defense diplomacy in response to the crisis on the Korean Peninsula"

"Tesis ini membahas mengenai pelemahan aliansi yang dilakukan oleh Tiongkok terhadap Korea Utara dalam krisis yang terjadi di Semenanjung Korea. Pelemahan tersebut menggunakan indikator dari segi ekonomi yaitu penurunan perdagangan, dari segi politik yaitu pembekuan aset dan dari segi keamanan yaitu pemberian sanksi PBB. Tesis ini menggunakan teori dan konsep aliansi yang berasal dari Stephen Walt dan berfokus pada aliansi dalam perspektif realisme. Tesis ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian bersifat deskriptif. Hipotesis penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa Tiongkok mendekatkan diri dengan Amerika Serikat, Korea Selatan dan Jepang karena dianggap lebih menguntungkan dibanding harus membela Korea Utara yang sering melakukan tindakan provokatif di Semenanjung Korea dan Tiongkok membutuhkan lingkungan yang stabil agar perekonomiannya dapat tumbuh dengan optimal sekaligus terus mendorong upaya denuklirisasi Korea Utara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Tiongkok melemahkan aliansi dengan Korea Utara sebagai strategi untuk memulihkan keadaan perekonomiannya yang sedang mengalami perlambatan pertumbuhan ekonomi. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut menunjukan bahwa hipotesis yang diajukan telah teruji secara empiris.

This thesis discusses about the weakening alliance conducted by China on North Korea in a crisis on the Korean Peninsula with the indicators in terms of economics is decreasing of the trade, in terms of politics is freezing of assets and in terms of security is provision of U.N sanctions. This thesis uses theory and  concept of alliance that comes from Stephen Walt and focuses on alliances within realism perspective. This thesis uses qualitative research methods and the type of research is descriptive. The hypothesis explains that China is closer to the United States, South Korea and Japan because it is considered more advantageous than having to defend North Korea by provocative act on the Korean Peninsula and China also needed a stable environment for optimally  economy growth while continuing to encourage North Korea's denuclearization efforts. The results showed that China  weaken the alliance with North Korea as a strategy to restore its economy that facing slowdown in economic growth. The result showed the hypothesis has been empirical tested."
