"Permintaan domestik tidak cukup untuk menyerap tenaga kerja yang terus bertambah dalam ekonomi ketenaga kerjaan yang produktif. Pertumbuhan lapangan kerja tambahan datang dari perusahaan domestik dengan produktivitas lebih tinggi yang cenderung melakukan kegiatan ekspor. Studi ini mencoba menganalisis dampak kegiatan ekspor terhadap penyerapan tenaga kerja di industri tekstil dan garmen Indonesia. Data yang digunakan besumber dari Survei Industri Besar dan Menengah Indonesia yang diterbitkan oleh Badan Pusat Statistik Indonesia pada tingkat perusahaan. Data tersebut merupakan data panel yang tidak seimbang dari tahun 2000-2015. Hasil estimasi utama menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ekspor secara positif dan signifikan mempengaruhi permintaan tenaga kerja perusahaan. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa kegiatan ekspor berkaitan dengan permintaan tenaga kerja terampil yang lebih tinggi.

Domestic demand is inadequate to absorb the growing labor force in a productive employment economy. Additional job growth came from domestic firms with higher productivity which tend to do export activities of their production. This study tries to estimate the impact of export activities on labor absorption in Indonesian textile and garment industries. It has employed unbalanced panel firm-level data from 2000-2015 from the Indonesian Large and Medium-sized Manufacturing Survey published by the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. The main estimation results suggest that exporters positively and significantly affect a firm’s labor demand. In addition, the study also found that export activities are associated with a higher share of skilled labor."

"Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah usaha untuk menunjukkan adanya proses ko-evolusi di antara perusahaan-perusahaan dalam industri tekstil dan pakaian di Indonesia, dengan pemerintah sebagai perwakilan dari lembaga lokal. Hasil dari riset menunjukkan bahwa seiringnya waktu, perubahan dalam lembaga lokal telah terjadi dalam industri yang di jelaskan oleh beberapa faktor regulasi dan juga kondisi perekonomian negara yang turut berkontribusi dalam kecepatan proses ko-evolusi tersebut. Sebuah fokus dari beberapa kasus seperti: penerapan kebijakan; krisis moneter di Indonesia, dan perkembangan teknologi telah disediakan sebagai pendukung argumen. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa proses ko-evolusi melalui adaptasi bersama diantara pelaku dapat mempercepat dan telah berkontribusi dalam perkembangan ekonomi negara secara keseluruhan.

This research is an exploratory attempt to show the co-evolutionary relationship between Indonesian firms in the textile and garment industry, and the local government as a representative of local institutions. The result shows that institutional changes occurred within the industry were driven by several regulated factors and the country's economic condition affected the speed of co-evolution. A focus on cases such as: various policy implementations, Indonesian monetary crisis, and technological development are provided for further support. This research shows that co-evolutionary process by mutual adaptation between the actors enables faster and overall economic growth of the country in general."
