"100 orang konsumen komputer Dusit Mangga Dua Jakarta menjadi sampel dalam penelitian tentang Pembajakan Software Komputer (Studi Terhadap Konsumen Dusit Mangga Dua). Penarikan sampel di lakukan dengan cara accidental sampling, metode pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan wawancara berstruktur. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mencoba menggambarkan bagaimana konsumen menjadi korban di dalam membeli software (perangkat lunak) bajakan dan mencoba memetakan berbagai macam faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi konsumen menjadi korban dalam pembelian software bajakan tersebut.
Banyaknya software bajakan di sentra-sentra perekonomian masyarakat, penertiban terhadapnya pun tidak ada, harga-harga yang sangat murah dibandingkan software yang asli, karena keterpurukan ekonomi menyebabkan daya beli masyarakat yang rendah, tidak terdapatnya penegakan hukum, merupakan faktor-faktor yang mendorong konsumen untuk mau melanggar hukum, yaitu membeli software-software yang illegal atau bajakan. Di tambah minimnya pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap teknologi informasi khususnya menyangkut software komputer menyebabkan masyarakat hanyalah berada pada tahap pengguna jasa.
Dalam sudut pandang kriminologi konsumen tetap menjadi suatu korban kejahatan. Pembelian tersebut terjadi karena adanya suatu kesempatan yang ditawarkan oleh suatu keadaan yang kondusif melakukannya sehingga konsumen mau terlibat ke dalamnya. Konsumen menjadi tergantung pada keadaan pasar yang dikelola oleh para pelaku usaha. Pembelian software bajakan tersebut menjadi meningkat pesat sekali, bahkan 90% software yang di beli adalah software bajakan."
