"The work of Jacques Derrida has transformed our understanding of a range of disciplines in the humanities through its questioning of some of the basic tenets of western metaphysics. This volume is a trans-disciplinary collection dedicated to his work; the assembled contributions - on law, literature, ethics, history, gender, politics and psychoanalysis, among others - constitute an investigation of the role of Derrida's work within the field of humanities, present and future. The volume is distinguished by work on some of his most recent writings, and contains Derrida's own address on 'the future of the humanities'. In addition to its pedagogic interest, this collection of essays attempts to respond to the question: what might be the relation of Derrida, or 'deconstruction' to the future of the humanities? The volume presents the most sustained examples yet of what deconstruction is in its current phase - as well as what its possible future may be."

"This volume provides a critical roadmap through the major historical sources of legal semiotics as we know them today. The history of legal semiotics, now at least a century old, has never been written (a non-event itself pregnant with semiotic possibility).  As a consequence, its sources are seldom clearly exposed and, as word, object and meaning change, are sometimes lost. They reach from an English translation of the 1916 inaugural lecture of the first Chair in Legal Significs at the Amsterdam University, via mid 20th century studies on “property” or “contract,” to equally fascinating essays on contemporary semiotic problems produced by former students of the Roberta Kevelson Semiotics Roundtable Seminar at Penn State University 2012 and 2013. Together, the materials in this book weave the fabric of semiotics and significs, two names for the unfolding of semiotics in law and legal discourse at least until the second half of the 20th century, and both of which covered a lawyer’s focus on sign and meaning in law.  The latter is embedded within the cultural imperatives of the civilization that gave these terms meaning and made them an effective tool for the dissection of law, its reconstitution as an instrument to be used by the lawyer to advance the interests of her clients, and for judges as a means to restructure language as a narrative of law whose power could bend behavior to its strictures. Legal semiotics has become an indispensible part of the elite lawyer’s toolkit and a fundamental approach to analysis of legal texts. Two previous volumes published in 2011 and 2012 explored the conceptual, methodological and epistemological progress in the field of legal semiotics, the modern forms of semiotics study, and the mechanics of meaning making processes by lawyers. Yet the great lessons of semiotics requires a focus on the origins of the concepts and frameworks that would become contemporary legal semiotics, its origins as an object of the consciousness of meaning making—one whose roots, as lessons for the oracular conversations of law, are expanded in this volume."

Berry, David M. (David Michael)
"As the twenty-first century unfolds, computers continue to change the way we think about culture, society and what it is to be human: areas traditionally explored by the humanities. In a world of Big Data, Google Books, digital archives, real-time streaming systems and smart phones, our use of culture has been changing dramatically. The digital humanities give us powerful tools and methods for thinking about culture and history in the contemporary world, through the use of sophisticated computing techniques and methods. Berry and Fagerjord provide a comprehensive guide, exploring the history, intellectual work, key arguments and ideas of this emerging discipline. They also undertake a substantive critique, suggesting ways in which the humanities can be enriched through computing, but also how cultural critique can transform the digital humanities."

The rise of hate groups in contemporary society presents pressing societal issues, highlighting the allure and peril of charismatic leadership as hate groups usually formed around a charismatic leader. This paper examines the representation of the teacher as a charismatic leader and its impact on education through the lens of the film Die Welle (2008). Employing qualitative methods and analyzed using Stuart Hall's Representation Theory, this research explores how charismatic leaders can sway individuals and masses towards radical ideologies and behaviors. The analysis reveals that charismatic leadership in educational settings, as depicted in the film, can influence students' perceptions, behaviors, and group dynamics profoundly. This study also finds that while charisma can inspire and unify, it also harbors dangers, as seen in the film's portrayal of unchecked authority and groupthink. This study underscores the psychological factors that render individuals susceptible to charismatic influence, emphasizing the need for critical skepticism and resilience against manipulation."

"The Bronze Age in the Korean peninsula witnessed many significant social and economic transformations, one of which was the transition from dispersed/linear settlements to nucleated settlements in the late Early Bronze Age and the concomitanat emergence of the "village community". This paper considers how the notion of the "village community" may have been reproduced through funerary practices of object deposition observed at the late EBA Phase i dolmens of the Yongdam complex, located in Jinan, southeern Korea. Firstly, it is suggested that the stone objects deposited in and around the dolmens may have been personal items relevant to the life history of the deceased. Secondly, the ceramic vessel parts deposited around the dolmen burials are seen to have been associated with feasting practices. Finally, the possibility that the stone objects deposited in a deliberately broken and partial state may have been involved in practices of social enchhainment is considered. it s argued that these diferent practices of object deposition mediate the sharing of memories, which in turn contributed to the estabilishment of community history. The reproduction of community history, it is maintained, would have played an important role in reproducing the notion of the "village community""
