"There is a clear need for a systematic, integrative, and rigorous normative theory of the information society. In this book, Duff offers a prescriptive theory to help to guide the academic and policy communities as they debate the future shape of emerging post-industrial, information-based societies. He argues that information policy needs to become anchored in a left-liberal philosophy which foregrounds a feasible permutation of the core ideals of freedom, equality and brotherhood. The information society, if it is to be worth having at all, cannot be allowed to be largely the outcome of the free play of market forces and technological determinism. The social structure, including the information economy, must be subjected to a regulatory axiological system as explicated by some leading proponents of social democracy."

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini ingin memaparkan mitos masyarakat informasi di Indonesia yang direpresentasikan melalui media iklan televisi. Tiga iklan televisi yang dianggap merepresentasikan ciri-ciri masyarakat informasi yaitu iklan layanan masyarakat Indonesia Berkualitas dari Perpustakaan Nasional, iklan aplikasi belajar online Quipper Video, dan iklan E-Paper Kompas Siang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan semiotik Rolland Bathes yaitu mitos mythology dengan konsep denotasi dan konotasi untuk melihat mitos masyarakat informasi di Indonesia yang direpresentasikan melalui media iklan televisi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, ingin memaparkan bahwa masyarakat di Indonesia telah direpresentasikan oleh media sebagai masyarakat yang berevolusi dari masyarakat industri menjadi masyarakat informasi berdasarkan teori dan ciri-ciri masyarakat informasi menurut beberapa ahli seperti John Feather 2004 , William J. Martin 1995 , Hornby Clarke 2004 dan Manuel Castell 2002 . Diharapkan, skripsi ini dapat memberikan masukan bagi pemirsa iklan dan pemerhati masalah kepustakawanan tentang metode menafsirkan iklan dan menyadari bahwa Indonesia telah memasuki era informasi

ABSTRAKThis research explains information society myth in Indonesia represented through television advertisements. This study uses Roland Barthes rsquo s semiotic approach, myth mythology with denotation and connotation concepts to understand information society myth in Indonesia represented through television advertisements. Analysis unit consists of three television advertisements which are considered represent the characteristics of information society, they are Indonesia Berkualitas from National Library public service announcement, Quipper Video online learning application advertisement, and Kompas Siang e Paper advertisement. This research aims to provide suggestion for advertisement audiences and librarianship experts on advertisement interpretation methods and to realize that Indonesia has entered the information era. The result of this research shows that the society is experiencing information revolution and has the characteristics of information society. This research can be further analysed by advertisement audiences or librarianship experts to understand the future representation of information society in Indonesia."
