"It seems like there is no such thing as privacy anymore. But the truth is that privacy is in danger only because we think about it in narrow, limited, and outdated ways. In this transformative work, Ari Ezra Waldman, leveraging the notion that we share information with others in contexts of trust, offers a roadmap for data privacy that will better protect our information in a digitized world. With case studies involving websites, online harassment, intellectual property, and social robots, Waldman shows how 'privacy as trust' can be applied in the most challenging real-world contexts to make privacy work for all of us. This book should be read by anyone concerned with reshaping the theory and practice of privacy in the modern world."

Internet users begin to feel concerned about their information privacy as online privacy issues keep emerging. Digital literacy could help users to protect their online privacy, while people with high optimistic bias believe that others are more vulnerable to privacy risks than themselves. This study investigated the relationship between digital literacy, information privacy concern and the moderating role of optimistic bias using the sample of 216 students of Universitas Indonesia. The results of this study do not show any moderating effects of optimistic bias. Furthermore, the author found no significant correlation between digital literacy and information privacy concern. Further research should examine other factors that may play significant role in indonesians' information privacy concern."

This study explains how current problems in the digital world are relevant because they have an impact on reality, where humans now live in an information-based reality which is referred to in Luciano Floridi's infosphere theory. Luciano Floridi himself is known as a philosopher who focuses on the realm of information philosophy, so his writings are often used in this discourse. This paper focuses on describing common web 2.0 problems in Indonesia, in a web 2.0 system user data is important in building an ecosystem on the internet. However, in the past few years user data has changed its function to be used as a tool for offering advertisements based on user persona through an algorithmic system. Subconciously, the user data taken is actually used as an efficient advertising tool. On the other hand, Indonesian people who are exposed to advertisements based on user data are trapped in consumerism. Apart from that, in the discussion, another problem was found, namely creepiness or fear and being monitored by the community due to the fact that the data collected tends to be personal, even involving how users carry out their daily activities. This paper describes Floridi's view of ethical pluralism in seeing this as a reference for applied ethics in the realm of information philosophy. What he uses on his ethical theory are deontological point of view, consequentialism, and contractualism., Even though these three ethical views should not be in parallel, Floridi's information ethics considers that users and people have different levels of moral responsibility, which means that the three ethical theoretical points of view are in favor of the user whose data is taken so that they can be in parallel. This research writes about how the problem of using user data, which is taken for advertising and sales purposes by certain parties, is a very serious problem and tends to be unnoticed."

"The crypto wars have raged for half a century.
In the 1970s, digital privacy activists prophesied the emergence of an Orwellian State, made possible by computer-mediated mass surveillance. The antidote: digital encryption.
The U.S. government warned encryption would not only prevent surveillance of law-abiding citizens, but of criminals, terrorists, and foreign spies, ushering in a rival dystopian future.
Both parties fought to defend the citizenry from what they believed the most perilous threats. The government tried to control encryption to preserve its surveillance capabilities; privacy activists armed citizens with cryptographic tools and challenged encryption regulations in the courts.
No clear victor has emerged from the crypto wars. Governments have failed to forge a framework to govern the, at times conflicting, civil liberties of privacy and security in the digital age—an age when such liberties have an outsized influence on the citizen–State power balance. Solving this problem is more urgent than ever.
Digital privacy will be one of the most important factors in how we architect twenty-first century societies—its management is paramount to our stewardship of democracy for future generations. We must elevate the quality of debate on cryptography, on how we govern security and privacy in our technology-infused world. Failure to end the crypto wars will result in societies sleepwalking into a future where the citizen–State power balance is determined by a twentieth-century status quo unfit for this century, endangering both our privacy and security.
This book provides a history of the crypto wars, with the hope its chronicling sets a foundation for peace."
