Burke, Anthony
"Rarely has security been such a preoccupation of Australian politics, and rarely has it seemed so far from being achieved. This celebrated book argues that security has dominated and distorted Australia's foreign policy and national life, from Cook's first voyage to the Tampa crisis, 9/11 and Iraq. Whether in the Great War, Vietnam or the treatment of asylum seekers, Anthony Burke shows that Australia's security has been bought with the insecurity and suffering of others. Against this corrosive tradition, he offers a new - cosmopolitan and non-coercive - model of national existence and responsibility. At once a deep historical survey and an argument with its society, Fear of Security is a landmark account of how Australia relates to itself, its region and the world. Turning powerful academic and political orthodoxies on their heads, it is essential reading for those concerned with the burning questions that face Australia and the Asia-Pacific."

COVID-19 has become a global pandemic and this creates a sense of fear in society. This fear brings changes in lifestyle and decision making related to risk, especially in terms of traveling. These changes occur differently for each person, related to how their respective personalities are. This study examines the relationship of the Big Five Personality to Risk Attitude and Travel Intention and the effect of Fear of Covid on Travel Anxiety, Risk Attitude and Travel Intention. This research was conducted using a non-probability purposive sampling method with a total of 462 respondents aged 17 years and over and had been or were planning a tourist trip during the COVID-19 pandemic. Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze this study and it was found that the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and travel intention showed significant results, but the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and risk attitude was not significant. Personality was also found to influence travel intention both directly and indirectly, except for the agreeableness and neuroticism traits."

"Invasion Dynamics depicts how non-native species spread and perform in their novel ranges and how recipient socio-ecological systems are reshaped and how they respond to the new incursions. It collects evidence for grouping patterns of spread into four types and three associated phenomena, discusses candidate explanations for each pattern, and introduces analytic tools for capturing and forecasting invasion dynamics. Special attention is given to the potential mechanisms of boosted range expansion and nonequilibrium demographic dynamics during invasion. The diverse mechanisms that drive direct and mediated biotic interactions between invaders and resident species are elucidated, and triggers of potential regime shifts in recipient ecosystems are identified. It further explores the ways in which local and regional species assemblages are reshuffled and reorganized. Efficient management of invasions requires not only insights on invasion dynamics across scales but also objective assessment of ecological and economic impacts, as well as sound protocols for prioritizing and optimizing management effort. Biological invasions, therefore, involve more than the actions of invaders and reactions of invaded ecosystems; they represent a co-evolving complex adaptive system with emergent features of network complexity and invasibility. Invasions are thus a formidable force that acts in concert with other facets of global change to initiate the adaptive wheel of panarchy and shape the altered biosphere in the Anthropocene."

Since the launch of Facebook, people around the world have been able to interact with other, maintain relationship, share experience, and express their opinions. It is estimated over 1 billion people use Facebook as their social-networking platform (Labrague, 2014). Furthermore, a study showed that most college students utilise Facebook. Thus, People join Facebook for a variety of reasons, including to pass the time, spread information, and meet people. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between Facebook use, self-esteem, anxiety and fear of missing out. We recruited 852 participants from the community using online survey dissemination and asked to fill the survey for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The result found that self-esteem was positively correlated to Facebook use. However, anxiety was found to be negatively correlated to Facebook use. Meanwhile, the fear of missing out was found to be not significantly related to Facebook use. Therefore, individuals with positive psychological well-being tend to use Facebook more."
