Sulabesi Island is a small and remote island, which causes this island to be faced with various limitations in development and threats to coastal disasters and has an impact on environmental sustainability and socio-economic resilience of the community. This study aims to analyze the suitability characteristics of the distribution pattern of settlements and see the level of community resilience and connectivity between regions. The approach used is quantitative, with spatial analysis, community resilience index, and connectivity index. The results show that the distribution of settlements forms a dispersed pattern, and there is a discrepancy between protected areas and areas with deficient land capability. In meeting the needs, the overall level of resilience is sufficient, or 75%. This condition is caused by the low level of connectivity <73.08. Sustainable settlement planning can be done by integrating spatial policies, increasing network density, local community wisdom, and regulating the distribution of settlements so that they are not included in protected areas."

The high demand for suitable housing plays a major role in the emergence of urban slums Slum areas are usually located in geographically vulnerable regions prone to disasters. Jakarta is one of the areas with a high rate of urbanization, facing serious challenges in addressing slum settlements, particularly in coastal areas. The slums in Jakarta’s coastal regions face flooding problems due to rising sea levels and land subsidence. Improving the quality of these slum areas must integrate flood protection efforts. This study was conducted in Kalibaru Subdistrict, a priority location for slum improvement with high flood risk. The study aimed to identify the conditions of residents and settlements post-improvement, analyze the vulnerability of settlements post-improvement based on exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity, and develop a sustainable coastal settlement improvement concept. This research used a quantitative approach with mixed methods. Data collection was done through questionnaires and interviews. Data were analyzed using scoring analysis, statistics analysis, spatial analysis, and descriptive analysis. The results show that after the post-improvement initiative, the conditions of the settlements and residents have improved to a moderate level. Flood vulnerability is at a low level, with adaptive capacity being a significant factor in determining this vulnerability. The proposed settlement improvement concept is a community-based strategy focused on enhancing slum conditions. It addresses physical, social, and economic environmental aspects, considers slum criteria, and includes efforts for flood mitigation and adaptation."

Coastal area as a natural ecosystem has four functions for human basic needs and economic development, such as, to support activity of living resources, as natural view and amenities, as raw material resources and as waste location. In order to support those functions, it is needed an integrated and sustainable coastal area management plan, which development is based on the same interest and implemented together with the community. Therefore active coastal community participation is absolutely needed to take part in arranging environment plan and management for its area. By the participation and empowerment of the community it is expected to be able to create a relation which is harmonious, synergy and mutual dependency in order to decrease that activity, which has a potency to damage the environment even from in side or out side of area. Seribu Islands are one of marine conservation area, especially in sub-district of North Seribu Islands, which has number of interference from outside, amongst offers from tourism sector, over-fishing, explosive usage and fish poisoning, domestic and industrial waste, mining, mangrove damage and fishing tools which are able to damage the environment. Based on those problems and the condition, perception and participation of the community in Seribu Islands in determining their environment management, this research proposed to identify coastal community participation and the activities which have potency to damage coastal area and its ecosystem as well as to analyze community participation and perception to give input and support for implementing environment management program in the study area.
This study was carried out in Kelurahan of Panggang island, Kelapa Island, and Harapan Island, which were located in Sub-District of North Seribu Islands, Administrative District of Seribu Islands (KAKS = Kabupaten Administrasi Kepulauan Seribu). Study started from April 2002 up to September 2002. The study used participation method with Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) is a technical approach, and survey activity using questioners or interview method. Sampling collection for data and information collection are conducted by using purposive random sampling that combined with PRA method, especially for ecological/environmental condition, social economy, and culture of study area. Number of respondent was 10 % of the total population or depending on the condition in the field, which was based on the PRA implementation need.
Based on the study result, number of activities or interferences have been identified which has a potency for damaging coastal ecosystems in the study area. Amongst others are coral reefs mining, the use of explosive material and cyanide poison for fishing, pollution, and coastal abrasion, fishing tools that able are destroy environment or non selective use of fishing tools. Based on PRA result showed that in 1970 (80%) mangrove condition in the study area was still good, then it keep going to decrease until 1995 by more than (10-20%) In fact, based on the answer of respondent showed that mangrove damage caused by cutting them for firewood and building material around 80°Io, pollution and abrasion around 82% and conversion fishpond 16°fo. Note, that the answer received from respondent in most cases more than one answer.
In fact, the number of coral reefs damage are caused by using explosive material and fish a poison (rCN), pollution, and fishing tool usage. Based on PRA, before 1975, the condition of coral reefs was still good. It was characterized with number of Stone fish and the fishermen were easy to find fishes around their living area. In 1975, fishermen from out side of Thousands Islands came and caught fish by using explosive material and other damaging fishing equipment.
Thus, in 1980, most of the coral reef condition was bad, only 40% coral reefs were in good condition. It was getting worse in 1985, when government projects used coral reefs as its building materials. In 1995 to present days, probably, there are only 15-20% coral reefs in good condition in the study area.
Fishing capture using catching equipment that could damage environment are Trawl net, Gardan net, "Hanyur net and other fishing gear used by outside fishermen. Most fishermen who used that equipment used to come from outside of study area (95%), which has enough capital, while local fishermen were only (11%). Most of local fishermen did not have enough capital and still used traditional equipment in catching fish, such as Mayang net, Bubu (trap net) and Tonda fishing in study area.
Nevertheless, coastal community in Seribu Islands has a perception and participation in order to decrease environmental damage. There were number of factors, which influence them such as education and status level in society, so they could give warning whenever they saw fishermen from in or out side of Seribu Islands conducted the activities, which caused environmental damage. It was around (17,7°!o) people, who were brave to give warning directly, (15,5%) report to RTor Pamong, but most of all did 82% and conversion fishpond 16°fo. Note, that the answer received from respondent in most cases more than one answer.
Based on the result of research, it concludes as follows: It had been identified communities activities, which were able to destroy coastal environment in study location conducted by local society/fishermen and outsider especially Coral Reefs and sand mining, mangrove felling, explosive and Potassium cyanide (KCN) usage in catching fishes, damageable fishing tools usage, and marine and coastal pollution. In fact, interference from outside were bigger than from inside of the study area. Such as explosive usage, (95%) were conducted by outsider, (8%) by local communities, then the use of fishing equipment that were able to damage environment, (95%) conducted by outside fishermen and (11°k) by local fishermen.
Based on PRA result, 5eribu Islands society still had social wisdom with the same perception of the importance of environment preservation for their area. It is based on the answer of some PRA participants that they did not agree and criticize the activities, which used explosive/chemical in catching fishes and using fishing gears, which were able to destroy environment.
Based on the study result showed that fishing in study area is decreasing from time to time, in line with the damage of coral reefs ecosystem condition, mangrove, and higher intensity in using fishing tools, which were able to destroy environment.
Perception and participation of Seribu Islands community in coastal management implementation has been recognized. It could be known by seeing their bravery to warn directly or report to the village chief whenever they saw the activity, which could destroy their environment.
Based on the conclusion, it was suggested that; each program for developing project in Seribu Islands should involve local community actively for significant benefit to improve community income or economy.
There is a selection in implementing fishing tools, which was save for the environment, fishing region allocation between traditional and modern fishermen, and alternative economy business development for coastal community.
If some are want to provide aid or development program, it would be better. to use or to involve the closest institution and acceptable by local community such as RT/RW and Kelurahan as first alternative, and LSM, LPM, Kelur4aahan Board, and Fishermen association as second alternative.

Ternate Island is a volcanic island formed from the body of Mount Gamalama. The lithology of island is dominated by the volcanic products of the volcano eruption. However, no research has been done on the characterization of volcanic products and their sources. The study aims to identify the characteristics of pyroclastic deposits, processes, and eruption mechanisms at the time of the formation of pyroclastic deposits in the research area. The methods used in this study are Grain Size Distrubution (GSD) and component analysis. The results of the research resulted in data on the components of the pumice as many as seven types and the lithic as four types. The sedimentary mechanism that forms the pyroclastic deposits is a pyroclastic fall. There are at least three phases of the eruption that form the pyroclastic deposits, namely Mount Telaga's eruptive phase and two Phases of Mount Gamalama's Eruption characterized by the spread of components."

This research is conducted using carrying capacity analysis method for management of tourism development. The purpose of this research is to analyze land suitability for each tourism site, to analyze the carrying capacityof tourism, and analyzing the authority scenario of sustainable tourism in Pari Island. This research conducted using quantitative method with data gathering through literary study (as secondary data), questioner, and field study (as primary data) which conducted using land suitability analysis, carrying capacity analysis, and trade off analysis. Especially the snorkeling that often seen in the Area Perlindungan Laut (APL). While the beach tourism often found in the Pasir Perawan beach, Kresek beach, Bintang beach, and Berbintang Beach.
The research shown that the tourist suitability index snorkeling tour at a tourist attraction that is appropriate for 66%, whereas the tourist suitability index on coastal tourism which is in accordance with the value of 98.5% for the Pasir Perawan beach, 92.6% for Kresek beach, 91% for Bintang beach, and 92.6% for Berbintang beach. The total amount of carrying capacity of environment effort above all tourism site is 331 tourist per day. The developing of tourism is 100% of the existing developing effort (scenario C) which considered as the best scenario for the development of tourism in Pari Island with carrying capacity amount that came per day which is not more that 331 tourists.

Inadequate basic hygiene and sanitation can be a risk factor for environmental infectious diseases such as diarrhea. Diarrhea is one of the diseases most commonly found in coastal areas such as Pulau Harapan Village. Apart from hygiene and sanitation, the floor which is part of the house building, can be another risk factor for transmitting diarrheal diseases. This study aims to determine the relationship between basic hygiene and sanitation conditions and the condition of house floors with the incidence of diarrhea in Harapan Island Village, North Seribu Islands District, Seribu Islands Administrative Regency, DKI Jakarta Province. The study design used in this research is cross-sectional, with data collection methods in the form of interviews using questionnaire instruments and direct observation of basic hygiene and sanitation conditions as well as the condition of the floors of residents' households. The number of total respondent in this research (96), 25 people found cases of diarrhea in the last month and 71 people did not experience cases of diarrhea. Children (under 17 years) are the most group by age (13 cases) found cases of diarrhea. The research analysis with chi square test stated that there was a significant relationship with the variables: healthy latrines (p-value 0.005), water quality (physical) (p-value 0.005), and waste bin facilities (p-value 0.019). Determining the most dominant variable in the incidence of diarrhea using the logistic regression test was based on the Exp (B) or Odds Ratio score in the final multivariate modeling, the biggest score was 6.389 in the latrine condition variable (p-value 0.002), that conclude the latrine condition variable is the most dominant to the relationship of diarrhea case. From this research, hopefully the government and the people can collaborate to pay attention to environmental cleanliness to improve the level of public health in Kelurahan Pulau Harapan. Then, for further research, hopefully other researcher can dig deeper into other variables that may be related to the incidence of diarrhea on other islands in North Seribu Islands District"
