"Terbukti dalam demokrasi dunia dan Australia saat ini yang modern dan tinggi akan kesadaran sosial, hak manusia untuk secara bebas mengekspresikan pikiran dan pendapat tanpa prasangka atau diskriminasi telah menjadi lebih penting dari sebelumnya. Kebebasan berekspresi ini harus inklusif bagi semua manusia. Brisbane sendiri telah menganut konsep ini, meskipun kota ini tidak memiliki ruang khusus untuk mengakomodasi berbagai bentuk ekspresi ketika ekspresi masyarakat membanjiri jalanan dan ruang kotanya. Pemahaman ini adalah dasar dari perwujudan proyek desain the Hall of Democracy baru di Brisbane. Proyek ini bertujuan untuk mengubah gagasan demokrasi yang didefinisikan ulang di Australia menjadi bentuk nyata serta penemuan kembali Luxfer Prism ikon Frederick Keppler. The Hall of Democracy yang baru ini dimaksudkan sebagai tempat masyarakat berkumpul, berekspresi, dan mengkomunikasikan diri dan pikiran mereka. Gedung ini juga berfungsi sebagai ruang konvergensi bagi otoritas dan warga sipilnya untuk saling memantau, merumuskan, mendiskusikan, menyarankan masukan, dan mengawasi operasi pemerintah dan urusan publik. Sebagai bagian dari hasil desain akhir, peraturan bangunan lokal, regional, dan nasional serta solusi inovatif diterapkan untuk mengatasi masalah teknis dan keselamatan.

Evident in the world's present climate and Australia's modern and "woke" environment of democracy, the fundamental human right of freely expressing thoughts and opinions without being prejudiced or discriminated against has become indispensable than ever. This freedom of expression should be inclusive to a limitless audience. Brisbane itself has embraced this concept, though the city has no dedicated space to accommodate various forms of expression as people's expression flood its streets, sidewalks, walls, and urban areas. This understanding is the basis of the design project and built manifestation of Brisbane's new Hall of Democracy. The project aims to convert the redefined idea of democracy in Australia through a tangible form and the reinvention of Frederick Keppler's iconic Luxfer Prism. The new Hall of Democracy is intended to be where the community can gather, express, and communicate themselves and their thoughts. It also serves as a convergence space for both the authority and its civilians to see, formulate, discuss, suggest inputs, and supervise government operations and public affairs. As part of the final design output, local, regional, and national building regulations and innovative solutions are implemented to address technical and safety issues."

"ABSTRAKFokus pembahasan pada tesis ini adalah kategorisasi ekspresi lokalitas yang dipromosikan oleh penggemar dalam media sosial Twitter. 9 akun personal dan 3 akun kolektif penggemar dipilih berdasarkan intensitas partisipasi mereka dalam penyebaran wacana lokalitas terhadap teks budaya populer Korean Wave. Ekspresi lokalitas merupakan strategi dan usaha para penggemar untuk melokalkan dan menggabungkan teks budaya populer Korea sebagai penanda global dengan hal-hal kekhasan Indonesia yang dimaknai sebagai ldquo;lokal rdquo;. Dengan memakai metode netnografi dan analisis tekstual, penelitian ini memperlihatkan pemaknaan yang dibentuk oleh akun-akun ini dalam mereproduksi teks budaya populer Korea menjadi sebuah teks dengan penanda kelokalan. Selain itu, penelitian juga memaparkan pengaruh media sosial khususnya Twitter yang menjadi medium pertemuan dari berbagai teks budaya populer yang berdampak pada kompleksitas aktivitas budaya penggemar. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa terdapat ambiguitas di dalam proses pemaknaan dan reproduksi teks antara penanda-penanda global dan lokal yang digunakan oleh penggemar dalam melokalkan teks budaya Korean Wave.

ABSTRACT Fan culture on social media is pervasive as it offers new forms of cultural practices and contributes to the progressing discussions of Korean Wave as the ldquo new rdquo global pop culture phenomena. In their cultural practices, fans are constructing Korean Wave as a global text while contextualizing this text in their own locality, in this case, Indonesian locality. This article aims to problematize these fan practices on Twitter as a way of consuming and re producing Korean Wave as a ldquo global rdquo pop culture and one of their strategies is appropriating global features of Korean idols in the form of fan fictions and fan arts. These acts of prosuming producing while consuming posit as an extension to the participatory culture of Korean Wave fans in their online activites. By conducting a thorough textual analysis on a number of Twitter fan pages, this article examines how these accounts contribute to redefining what locality means within the context of globalization. Reseach findings reveal that fans are constantly trying to make their Korean idol as a part of their everyday narratives by attaching local markers, such as local names or professions. This article shows the attempt to localize K Wave texts as a way to negotiate and represent Indonesia fans rsquo position in a larger social media network within the K Wave fandom. Locality articulation marks the complexity of global local circulation which no longer demonstrates homogeneity in the discussion of globalization. "

"Architectural acculturation in Brisbane has been one of the first manifestations of human civilization. In addition to being the capital city of Queensland, Australia, Brisbane has experienced many political events which have affected democracy within the community. In recent years, Brisbane has seen dramatic modernization as more and more people are becoming connected and digitally savvy. As a result, people have changed their expectations about what they expect from government, which encourages increased community involvement. Therefore, a democratic system can be inclusive by allowing communities to take part in decisions and actions. Further design for the Hall of Democracy will be based upon a study of the context, research of Australian political systems, a literature review of inclusive architecture, precedent studies, and modern building glass technology and LuxferPrism patent. In addition to applying local building regulations, Hall of Democracy will utilize the vision of the client, Grievous Keppler, great grandson of Frederick Keppler, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be involved in the communitiesregardless of age, race, and disability.

Akulturasi arsitektur di Brisbane telah menjadi salah satu manifestasi pertama peradaban manusia. Selain itu, sebagai ibu kota Queensland, Australia, Brisbane telah mengalami banyak peristiwa politik yang mempengaruhi demokrasi di masyarakat. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, Brisbane telah mengalami modernisasi yang dramatis karena semakin banyak orang yang lebih terhubung melalui media digital. Akibatnya, masyarakat telah mengubah harapan mereka terhadap pemerintah dan mendorong supaya peningkatan keterlibatan masyarakat ditingkatkan. Oleh karena itu, sistem demokrasi dapat bersifat inklusif dengan membiarkan masyarakat untuk ikut mengambil keputusan dan tindakan dalam keputusan pemerintah. "Komik merupakan medium unik yang menggabungkan dua jenis representasi yaitu gambar dan teks untuk menyampaikan informasi dengan harapan dapat menghasilkan respon tertentu dari pembaca. Arsitektur di dalam komik tidak hanya digunakan sebagai background untuk menginformasikan kepada pembaca dimana suatu adegan terjadi (sense of place) dan untuk membangun emosi tertentu (sense of depth), namun arsitektur juga dapat digunakan sebagai elemen pembangun cerita di dalam komik. Comic book is a unique medium which combines two kinds of representations, images and words, to convey informations in hope to gain response from the readers. Architecture in comic book is not only used as background to establish sense of place and sense of depth to the readers, but also can be used as the constructor elements of the story in the comic book. The cases study for this topic are "Yes is More, An Archicomic of Architectural Evolution", a comic book by BIG and "Durarara", a comic book by Ryohgo Narita, Suzuhito Yasuda and Akiyo Satorigi."

"Pergerakan abad ke-20 telah mempengaruhi kota-kota di seluruh dunia dalam banyak aspek peradaban. Brisbane adalah salah satu kota yang menyadari dampak modernisme terhadap prospek politik, ekonomi, masyarakat dan budaya mereka. Isu yang paling provokatif yang dihadapi kota ini akhir-akhir ini adalah keyakinan yang beralih pada demokrasi di dalam hubungan masyarakat dan parlemen yang sayangnya telah kehilangan esensi dasar transparansi. The 20th century movements have affected cities all around the world in many aspects of civilization. Brisbane is one of the cities that realizes the modernism impact regarding their political, economy, society and cultural prospect. The most provocative issue this town encounters lately is a shifted belief on democracy within community and parliament relationship that unfortunately has lost its fundamental essence of transparency. There are at least three drivers in Australian politics according to Tim Dunlop - the parties, the voting system and the media. A suggestion to initiate media to become independent broadcasting industry can inspire a reinvigorated democracy to Brisbane. Along with the process of defining true transparency through series of study on glass technology and Luxfer Prism patent, this conceptual idea is being used to develop an architecture proposal of Hall of Democracy. Without neglecting the use of local building legislation and the vision of the client, Grievous Keppler, great grandson of Frederick Keppler, Hall of Democracy will articulate a Brisbane architectural democracy through perspective of citizen to have a platform to seek out and instruct their elected representatives, direct and have oversight on government activities, and engage in, and formulate, debate and discussion for a better city."

"Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia is a city with multicultural inhabitant. Therefore, freedom of assembly in a community is very important. Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct is a place where diverse communities gather every week. Equipped with several educational buildings, Cultural Precinct becomes a very popular tourist destination for both local and international. Currently there are six buildings, standing in good shape and working properly as it was built years ago. The oldest building of the area is the QAG (Queensland Art Gallery) with almost 120 years old, while the youngest is the QAGOMA (Queensland Gallery of Modern Art), which was built on 2006. Ascertaining the Cultural precinct is high value asset, Government has planned to develop it by hiring several developers to complete the master plan planned. Millions of Australian dollar will be spend for a massive development, which to be honest very pleasing, since the government let locals involved to the master plan. As planned before, government wanted to develop Southbank as a place of artistic and cultural value where the whole community is welcomed and inspired. Along with the spirit of community and freedom of assembly, author tries to participate in development by providing a design of Banquet hall. On that account, author tries to develop a design method to bring harmony and perfection to the Cultural Precinct."

"ABSTRACT Waktu memiliki keberagaman kondisi dalam melingkupi kehidupan manusia. Waktu merupakan kondisi yang menerus dan memutar, dan juga paradoksikal. Paradoksikal menjelaskan waktu sebagai kondisi yang berpotongan dan tidak terprediksi disebabkan oleh keberagaman intuisi dan antisipasi manusia dalam menyusun perjalanan. Paradoksikal waktu mendefinisikan kegiatan manusia pada keseharian sebagai present yang merupakan akibat dari pengalaman past dan antisipasi future. Dalam arsitektur, belum banyak tersedia representasi yang mengakomodasi sifat paradoksikal waktu. Medium arsitektur kadang menghadirkan waktu sebagai keadaan yang statik, sedangkan waktu adalah keadaan dinamis yang multidimensi dan multiperspektif. Paradoksikal waktu membutuhkan representasi yang tidak konvensional untuk menjelaskan karakternya. Sehingga, paradoksikal waktu beralih pada media yang memiliki kualitas praktik keseharian berupa perjalanan spasial dan temporal yang bersifat subyektif. Film adalah media representasi waktu yang memberikan visualisasi arsitektur berupa perjalanan temporal. Film memiliki kemampuan untuk menampilkan subyektivitas present sebagai kemungkinan yang terikat pada past dan future melalui narasi. Hal tersebut merupakan potensi film sebagai visualisasi arsitektur yang mampu menjelaskan present sebagai kondisi yang beragam. Komponen abstraksi dan visualisasi film mampu menjelaskan paradoks melalui media sinematik, yaitu media yang bercerita akan perjalanan ruang melalui waktu. Melalui penelusuran komponen film tersebut, didapatkan pengertian paradoksikal waktu dalam kehidupan sebagai keseharian yang mengikat kemungkinan kondisi past-future.

ABSTRACTTime encompasses human in their lives through its various conditions. Time is linear and cyclical, and it is also paradoxical. Paradoxs describe time as an intersecting and unpredictable conditions caused by the diversity of human intuitions and anticipations in composing journey. Paradoxical in time defines human activities in everyday life as present that is caused by past experiences and future anticipations. In architecture, there have not been many representations that accomodate the paradoxical nature of time. Architectural mediums tend to present time as a static state, while time dynamically is multidimensional and multiperspective. Paradoxs needs unconventional representation to unfold its character. It is then shifting to media with everyday practices quality, which is a journey of subjectivity. Film is the time representation media that delivers architecture visualisation through temporal experience. Its abstraction and visualisation components are able to explain paradoxs of time through cinematic media, the media that tells the story of space through time. Film has the ability to project subjectivity in present as possibilities that binds past and future through narration. It is film potential of explaining present as a diverse condition. By searching the components of film, we can understand the paradoxical sense of time as everyday life that binds the possibilities of past future conditions."

"Arsitektur didesain oleh arsitek untuk memenuhi sebuh fungsi yang diharapkan, namun pada akhirnya bagaimana objek arsitektur itu digunakan ditentukan oleh penggunanya; dimana mungkin saja sama seperti yang diharapkan ataupun tidak sama sekali. Untuk menganalisis bagaimana objek arsitektur „menyampaikan‟ baik itu fungsi fisik ataupun simbolis, diperlukan pemahaman untuk melihat objek tersebut sebagai sinyal dan melihat arsitektur sebagai sebuah sistem tanda melalui sebuah analisis semiologi. Analisis tersebut akan coba diaplikasikan pada Margo City, sebuah pusat perbelanjaan di Margonda Depok yang dikenal sebagai ikon Margonda, untuk memahami bagaimana sebuah bangunan mengkomunikasikan fungsinya pada pengguna melalui bentuk.

There is a phenomenon in architecture that even though an architect designs an architectural object with an intended function, the user would use it the way they perceive about the object, which maybe either exactly the same intended function or anything else. To analyze how the architectural object delivers the function ─ both physical and symbolical, there is a need to see it as a signal and to see architecture as a system of sign through the analysis of semiology. The analysis would be applied to Margo City, a shopping mall in Margonda Depok which is known as an icon of Margonda, to understand how the building communicate the function to the users through the forms."
