"Media mainstream telah menggambarkan kehidupan ibu tunggal sepanjang sejarah, salah satunya melalui Disney's Coco (2017) yang disutradarai oleh Lee Unkrich, dimana film Coco (2017) menjadi korpus analisis untuk artikel ini. Melalui penelitian ini, penggambaran tokoh-tokoh ibu tunggal dalam film tersebut dieksplorasi dan bagaimana hal tersebut dapat menunjang alur film tersebut. Metode utamanya adalah analisis tekstual berdasarkan teori representasi Stuart Hall dan teori film David Bordwell et al. tentang kostum dan posisi kamera. Adegan, dialog, dan penokohan yang menonjol dari film tersebut dipilih dan ditafsirkan sesuai dengan peran karakter ibu tunggal. Struktur analisisnya terdiri dari penjelasan tentang pengorbanan ibu tunggal dalam film ini dan masalah keluarga yang melingkupi ibu tunggal tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggambaran ibu tunggal penting untuk memberikan gambaran tentang isu-isu yang ibu tunggal alami dalam kehidupan nyata, serta seberapa signifikan masalah tersebut untuk plot dan konflik yang berada di film ini.

Mainstream media has been portraying the life of single mothers throughout history. One of them is through Disney’s Coco (2017), directed by Lee Unkrich, which is the corpus of analysis for this article. Through this research, the representation of single mother characters in the movie is explored and how it is significant to support the movie’s plot. The main method is textual analysis based on Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and David Bordwell et al.`s film theories about costume and camera position. Prominent scenes, dialogues, and characterization from the movie are selected and interpreted regarding the single mother characters’ roles. The structure of the analysis consists of the explanation on the sacrifices of single mothers in this movie and the family matters that surrounds these single mothers. The result of this research shows that the portrayal of single mothers is important to give image regarding the issues that surround single mothers in real life, as well as how significant it is for the importance of the film’s plot and conflicts."

Kematian dan kedukaan adalah pengalaman manusia yang paling sering digunakan film Disney dalam plot mereka. Ada perubahan dalam cara model berkabung direpresentasikan dalam film mereka. Artikel ini mengkaji perbedaan model berduka antara film Coco (2017) dan Onward (2020). Film-film tersebut dipilih karena fokus eksplisit mereka pada kesedihan dan kematian anggota keluarga. Temuan metode analisis tekstual menunjukkan bahwa kedua film memiliki kontras yang mencolok tentang bagaimana metode kontemporer dimanifestasikan dalam karakter mereka. Coco (2017) dan Onward (2020). menggunakan model kesedihan yang berbeda dan bagaimana mereka berlanjut setelah konflik diselesaikan. Artikel ini juga menemukan bahwa makhluk mitos digunakan sebagai simbol kesedihan dan menghasilkan reaksi yang berbeda dari karakter-karakter yang ada. Walt Disney Studios have produced movies after movies that represent cultures and various human experiences. Death and grief are the most common human experience that Disney movies often use in their plots. There has been a shift in how the bereavement models are represented in their movies. This paper examines the differences of grief models between the movies Coco (2017) and Onward (2020). The movies were chosen due to their explicit focus on grief and the death of family members. The findings of the textual analysis method show that the movies have striking contrasts of how contemporary methods are manifested in their characters. Coco (2017) and Onward (2020). use different models of grief and how they are continued after conflicts are resolved. This paper also finds that mythical creatures are used as symbols of grief and result in different reactions from the characters. The evidence showed in this article suggests that Onward (2020) does not embrace the shift of contemporary bereavement models used by earlier movies in the modern Disney era."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat representasi ibu tunggal dalam film Yu o Wakasu Hodo no Atsui Ai (Her Love Boils Bathwater) dan refleksi film tersebut terhadap fenomena keluarga dengan ibu tunggal di Jepang. Penulis menggunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall (1997) sebagai konsep dasar dan teori analisis film melalui karakterisasi tokoh Petrie dan Boggs (2011) serta mise-en-scène Monaco (2000) dalam menganalisis data berupa tangkapan layar adegan yang menampilkan tokoh ibu tunggal dari segi penampilan dan pekerjaan, alasan ibu tunggal dalam bertahan hidup melawan kanker, percakapan ibu tunggal dengan anaknya, dan relasi ibu tunggal dengan mantan suaminya dengan menggunakan metode analisis teks dan visual. Dari hasil analisis, ditemukan tokoh ibu tunggal yang kuat dan berdaya. Hal ini dipengaruhi oleh absennya figur seorang ayah sebagai kepala keluarga, sehingga mau tidak mau ibu tunggal harus menjadi sosok yang kuat dan berdaya demi keluarganya. Film Yu o Wakasu Hodo no Atsui Ai dapat dilihat sebagai refleksi terhadap representasi ibu tunggal yang kuat dan berdaya pada fenomena keluarga dengan ibu tunggal di Jepang yang semakin meningkat dalam satu dekade terakhir.

This study aims to look at the representation of single mother in the film titled Yu o Wakasu Hodo no Atsui Ai (Her Love Boils Bathwater) and its reflection on the phenomenon of families with single mother in Japan. The writer uses Stuart Hall’s representation theory (1997) as the basic concept and theory of film analysis through the characterization of Petrie and Boggs (2011) and the mise-en-scène of Monaco (2000). The data that is analyzed using textual and visual analysis methods is in the form of screenshots of scenes featuring single mother in terms of her appearance and job, her reason to survive against cancer, her conversation with her child, and her relationship with her ex-husband. The result shows that the single mother figure is strong and empowered. This is influenced by the absence of a father figure as the patriarch, so that like it or not a single mother must be a strong and empowered figure for the sake of the family. The film Yu o Wakasu Hodo no Atsui Ai can be considered as a reflection of the strong and empowered single mother in the Japan’s growing single mother family phenomenon over the last decade."

"Naratif utama dalam acara televisi Cougar Town berfokus terhadap kehidupan orang tua tunggal. Penelitian ini menganalisa bagaimana Cougar town merepresentasikan seorang ibu tunggal berkulit putih dari Amerika yang sedang membesarkan seorang remaja. Dengan menggunakan analisis tekstual, saya menemukan bahwa Cougar Town menyajikan sebuah gambaran bertimbal mengenai seorang orang tua tunggal 'lajang' yang hidup dalam sebuah keluarga alternatif yang terdiri dari teman-teman sebayanya. Acara ini juga mengangkat masalah gender sperti maskulinitas, ketergantungan terhadap pria, dan naratif heteroseksual yang membelokkan representasi dari wanita modern di acara televisi post-feminis pada umumnya. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap diskusi mengennai representasi yang yang ditimbulkan oleh karakter wanita utama di acara-acara televisi post-feminis, terutama dalam topik mengenai orang tua tunggal.

The main narrative in the TV show Cougar Town focuses on single motherhood. This research paper analyzes how the show reproduces the image of a white American single mother raising a teenage child. Utilizing textual analysis, I found that the show presents an ambivalent image of a ldquo bachelorette rdquo single mother living with an alternative family consisting of the members of her peer group. It also raises gender issues, such as masculinity, dependence on males, and heterosexual narrative distorting the representation of the liberated woman of the postfeminist TV. This research paper contributes to the discussion of the representation produced by the female heroines in postfeminist TV shows, especially on the topic of single mothers."

"ABSTRAKJurnal ini membahas tentang peran seorang ibu tunggal dalan membesarkan anaknya seorang diri pada webtoon Wemo Jisangjui. Ibu tunggal adalah seorang perempuan yang memikul tanggung jawab secara tunggal menghidupi keluarganya. Berbagai permasalahan akan ditemui ibu tunggal dalam upayanya menghidupi dirinya serta anak-anaknya. Struktur pembentuk karakteristik ibu tunggal adalah struktur tugas, struktur komunikasi, struktur kekuasaan, dan struktur afeksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui upaya ibu tunggal dari sektor ekonomi menengah ke bawah dalam membesarkan anak dan menghadapi keraguan dari keluarga. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode kualitatif dengan mencari data penelitian dari studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak apapun permasalahan yang dihadapi seorang ibu tunggal, mulai dari masalah ekonomi, tekanan dari keluarga mantan/mendiang suami, dominasi anak dalam keluarga, dan rasa kesepian yang dialami, akan menjadikannya lebih kuat dalam menjalani kehidupannya bersama anak-anaknya.

ABSTRACTThis journal discuss about the role of a single mother to raise her children by herself on the Wemo Jisangjui webtoon. Single mother is a woman who takes responsibility to support her family. Various problems will be encountered by a single mother in her efforts to support herself and her children. The forming structure of single mother characteristics are task structure, communication structure, power structure, and affection structure. This study aims to determine the single mother 39;s from low-middle economic social class in raising children and facing the doubts in family. The research method use qualitative method by founding research data from literature study. The results of this study indicate that no matter how many problems a single mother faces, even from economic problems, the pressure of the former family/late husband, the dominancy of the children in the family, and the sense of loneliness, will make her stronger for living her life with her children."

"Penelitian ini didasarkan pada pentingnya memahami keberfungsian sosial ibu tunggal bekerja dilihat dari aspek pemenuhan kebutuhan sehari-hari dan dalam menjalani peranannya. Dalam upaya memenuhi kedua aspek tersebut, ibu tunggal menemui permasalahan. Cara yang dilakukan untuk menghadapi permasalahan tersebut dikenal sebagai coping mechanism. Urgensi penelitian ini adalah memberikan gambaran pemahaman tentang salah satu aspek terkait perempuan dalam dunia kerja, yang dapat membantu perumusan kebijakan terkait job requirement dan job design pekerja perempuan kerja dan dapat membantu pengembangan dan perencanaan karir pekerja perempuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Februari-November 2021, masa pandemi Covid-19, menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif untuk memahami keberfungsian sosial ibu tunggal yang bekerja di masa pandemi Covid-19 serta mekanisme kopingnya dalam menghadapi permasalahan. Pengambilan data melalui wawancara secara daring melalui video call dengan 17 informan. Informan terbagi 3 kelompok, pertama informan utama yakni ibu tunggal, informan pendukung – relasi keluarga yakni anak dari informan utama, dan informan pendukung – relasi kerja yakni rekan kerja informan utama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pandemi ini menyebabkan kebutuhan ibu tunggal meningkat yaitu pada kebutuhan pangan, uang transportasi, dan kebutuhan rumah tangga. Peningkatan juga terjadi pada tanggung jawab atas perannya sebagai pekerja akibat kebijakan ‘bekerja dari rumah’/work from home- WFH. Namun penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa keberfungsian sosial ibu tunggal dapat berjalan dengan baik walaupun terjadi peningkatan kebutuhan dan tanggungjawab peran, karena para informan masih mampu memenuhi keduanya. Penelitian inipun mengungkapkan bahwa permasalahan yang dihadapi para informan di masa pandemi yakni jenuh bekerja, masalah peningkatan beban pekerjaan, dan kekhawatiran beraktivitas di luar rumah. Menghadapi permasalahan tersebut, para informan ibu tunggal bekerja ini melakukan lima mekanisme koping/coping mechanism dalam 3 kategori. Tiga mekanisme dalam kategori pertama, problem-focused coping yaitu dengan mengatur keuangan, tidak keluar rumah apabila tidak ada hal mendesak, dan melakukan hobi untuk menyegarkan pikiran. Satu mekanisme dalam kategori kedua, emotion-focused coping yakni meminta dukungan dari teman dan keluarga. Satu bentuk mekanisme dalam kategori ketiga avoidance-focused coping, yakni bersantai menunda tanggung jawab dengan menonton acara dan mendengarkan musik.

This research underpinned by importance of the social functioning of working single mothers from the aspect of meeting their daily needs and in carrying out their roles. In an effort to fulfill these two aspects, single mothers encounter problems. The way to deal with this problem is known as a coping mechanism. This research can see how women in the world of work, can assist related parties in formulating policies related to job requirements and job design for female workers and can assist in the development and career planning of women workers.This research was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic, namely in February-November 2021 using a descriptive type approach to understand the social functioning of single mothers who work during the Covid-19 pandemic and their coping mechanisms in dealing with problems. Collecting data through nterview using video calls with 17 informants. Informants were divided into 3 groups, first is the main informant, namely single mothers, second is supporting informants - family relations, namely the children of the main informants, and third is supporting informants - work relations, namely co-workers of the main informants. The results showed that the needs of single mothers increased during a pandemic such as food needs, transportation, and household needs. An increase in responsibilities of their roles is also seen as a result of WFH policies. However, in addition to an increase in these 2 aspects, the social functioning of single mothers can run well because they are still able to fulfill both aspects of social functioning. The problems faced during the pandemic are the increase of feeling surfeited because of working, increasing workload because of pandemic and its policy , and worry about doing activities outside the house. In dealing with her problems, single mothers do what is known as a coping mechanism. The method consists of 3 methods, first problem-focused coping, namely managing finances, not leaving the house if there is nothing urgent, and doing hobbies to refresh the mind. Second is emotion-focused coping which asking for support from friends and family. Third, avoidance-focused coping, namely relaxing in order to procrastinate by watching shows and listening to music."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran ibu sebagai orang tua tunggal dan bagaimana strategi para ibu tunggal (single mother) dalam menghadapi permasalahan-permasalahan yang dialaminya. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan wawancara. Penelitian ini melibatkan tiga key informan yang terdiri dari ibu tunggal (single mother). Hasil dari penelitian menyatakan bahwa beberapa situasi dan kondisi mempengaruhi atau bahkan mendukung terjadinya stres pada perempuan yang berperan sebagai single mother yang memiliki beban ganda. Kecemasan single mother tidak berhenti disitu saja melainkan juga megenai reaksi orang lain terhadap dirinya, dari teman-teman serta kerabat mengenai bagaimana cara single mother menjalani hidup sendiri tanpa adanya kehadiran seorang pasangan. Bentuk strategi coping yang dilakukan oleh ketiga informan ini pun beragam. Terdapat persamaan dan perbedaan dari strategi coping yang mereka pilih untuk mengatasi permasalahan dan tekanan yang dialami. Keberhasilan strategi coping ini sangat dipengaruhi oleh kebribadian, motivasi, dan dukungan sosial yang dimiliki oleh ibu tunggal tersebut.

This study aims to determine the role of mothers as single parents and how the strategies of single mothers in dealing with the problems they experience. Researchers used qualitative research methods with a case study approach with data collection through observation and interviews. This study involved three key informants consisting of single parents. The results of the study stated that several situations and conditions influence or even support the occurrence of stress in women who act as single mothers with double burden. Single mother anxiety does not stop there, but also about other people's reactions to it, from friends and relatives about how single mothers live their own lives without the presence of a partner. The forms of coping strategies undertaken by these three informants also varied. There are similarities and differences from the coping strategies they choose to overcome the problems and pressures experienced. The success of the coping strategy is strongly influenced by the personality, motivation, and social support of the single mother."

"Film keluarga adalah film yang mengangkat tema keluarga dari isu sehari-hari seperti fungsi keluarga. Fungsi keluarga merupakan peran yang harus dijalankan dalam suatu keluarga khususnya dari orang tua kepada anaknya. Keluarga juga bisa menampilkan sesuatu yang paradoks dari yang keluarga ideal, seperti keluarga yang memiliki orang tua tunggal. Korpus penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah film asal Jerman yang berjudul Jack (2014) dan disutradarai oleh Edward Berger yang membahas hilangnya fungsi keluarga dan peran ibu dalam keluarga. Penelitian ini membahas bagaimana tokoh ibu yang hilang berpengaruh terhadap hilangnya fungsi keluarga dan bagaimana ketidakhadiran tokoh ibu menjadi perjuangan tokoh utama (Jack) dalam film. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan menerapkan teori representasi Stuart Hall, dengan menganalisis simbol-simbol yang digambarkan pada beberapa adegan film (scene). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa demi menemukan sosok ibu, anak harus menjalani perjuangan. Perjuangan yang harus dihadapi antara lain penyiksaan, kekerasan dan pengabaian.

Family films are often utilize the family theme from everyday issues such as family functions. Family function is a role that must be played in a family, especially from parents to children. Families can also present something paradoxical to the ideal family, such as a single parent family. The research corpus used in this study is a German film entitled Jack (2014) and directed by Edward Berger which discusses the loss of family function and the role of mothers in the family. This research discusses how the missing mother character affects the loss of family function and how the absence of the mother character becomes the struggle of the main character (Jack) in the film. The researcher used a qualitative method by applying Stuart Hall's theory of representation, by analyzing the symbols depicted in several film scenes. The results of this study indicate that in order to find a mother, the child must undergo a struggle. The struggles that must be faced include torture, violence and neglect."

"Perkembangan film genre horor hingga kini terus terjadi khususnya pada segi penceritaan yang memadukannya dengan elemen genre lain, serta dengan dikelompokkannya genre horor ke dalam beberapa subgenre. Film psychological horror-thriller asal Austria Goodnight Mommy dapat memberikan sensasi horor yang berbeda melalui unsur penceritaannya yang didasari oleh masalah kepribadian tokoh. Masalah kepribadian dialami oleh tokoh utama Elias sebagai akibat dari tingkat kecemasan yang tinggi terhadap kejadian traumatis yang sebelumnya telah dilaluinya. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai proses hilangnya figur ibu bagi tokoh Elias di dalam film Goodnight Mommy. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi pustaka. Analisis film dilakukan melalui pendekatan psikoanalisa Sigmund Freud, yang membahas mengenai struktur kepribadian, mekanisme pertahanan, dan mimpi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa proses hilangnya figur ibu yang menjadi ancaman besar bagi tokoh Elias dipicu secara bertahap oleh perubahan struktur kepribadian, mekanisme pertahanan, mimpi, serta pandangan dan prasangka buruk Elias terhadap ibu.

The development of the horror genre film continues to occur today, especially in terms of storytelling that combines it with other genre elements, and also by grouping the horror genre into several subgenres. The Austrian psychological horror-thriller film Goodnight Mommy can give different sensations through its storytelling that based on personality problem of the character. The main character, Elias, experienced personality problem as a result of high level anxiety over the traumatic event that he had previously been through. This study discusses the disappearance process of mother figure for Elias in Goodnight Mommy. The research method used is qualitative, with analysis descriptive approach. Film analysis is done through Sigmund Freud`s psychoanalysis approach, which discussed about structure of personality, defense mechanism, and dream. The result shows that the disappearance process of mother figure, which is a major threat for Elias, is triggered gradually by the changes of structure of personality, defense mechanism, dream, and Elias` bad perception and prejudice towards mother."

"Janda dan ibu tunggal di Indonesia kerap mendapatkan stigmatisasi yang negatif. Mereka dicurigai melakukan berbagai aktivitas seksual yang tidak lazim serta menjadi objek gosip, predasi seksual pria, kecemburuan seksual para perempuan bersuami, dan fitnah. Representasi mereka di media juga selalu lekat dengan stigmatisasi negatif tersebut. Oleh karena itu, mereka membutuhkan support group sebagai tempat berkumpul dan bersatu untuk saling mendukung. Di era digital, mereka membuat komunitas online melalui media sosial untuk menciptakan ruang publik baru yang berbeda dengan ruang publik dominan. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi komunitas Single Moms Indonesia di media sosial sebagai bentuk counterpublic para janda. Menggunakan strategi penelitian etnografi digital, peneliti menemukan bahwa 1) para janda memiliki berbagai cara dalam menggunakan komunitas Single Moms Indonesia sebagai sebuah counterpublic, 2) komunitas online bisa menjadi ruang aman bagi janda, 3) counterpublic di ruang online bisa berlanjut hingga ke ruang offline, 4) komunitas Single Moms Indonesia melakukan berbagai upaya untuk membantu para janda mengatasi stigma masyarakat, dan 5) di komunitas online para janda harus menerapkan berbagai regulasi dan filter agar mereka bisa aman dan nyaman dari gangguan masyarakat

Widows and single mothers are routinely stigmatised in everyday Indonesian social life. They are suspected of engaging in a variety of unusual sexual activities as well as being the object of gossip, male sexual predation, sexual jealousy of women, and slander. Their representation in the media has always been closely tied to the stigmatization. Therefore, they need a support group as a place to gather and unite to support each other. In the digital era, these women create online communities through social media to create new public spaces that are different from dominant public spaces. This research explores the Single Moms Indonesia community on social media as a form of counterpublic for widows. Using a digital ethnographic research strategy, I am able to find out that 1) widows and single mothers have various ways of using the Single Moms Indonesia community as a counterpublic, 2) online communities can be safe spaces for widows, 3) counterpublic in online spaces can continue to offline spaces, 4) Single Moms Indonesia communities make various efforts to help widows overcome stigma, and 5) in online communities, widows must implement various regulations and filters so that they can be safe and comfortable from public disturbances."
