"Across the Muslim world, religion plays an increasingly prominent role in both the lives of over a billion people. Observers of these changes struggle to understand the consequences of an Islamic resurgence in a democratizing world. Will democratic political participation by an increasingly religious population lead to victories by Islamists at the ballot box? Will more conspicuously pious Muslims participate in politics and markets in a fundamentally different way than they had previously? Will a renewed attention to Islam lead Muslim democracies to reevaluate their place in the global community of states, turning away from alignments with the West or the Global South and towards an Islamic civilizational identity? "Tulisan ini dibuat atas dasar kekhawatiran penulis terhadap berkembangnya persepsi tentang Islam radikal di masyarakat Indonesia. Persepsi ini menjadi penting dibahas untuk mencegah pembenaran bahwa radikalisme adalah wajah Islam sesungguhnya. Untuk itu perlu ada upaya pemurnian terhadap persepsi-persepsi yang telah melekat pada Islam. Dalam melakukan upaya pemurnian diperlukan upaya pemahaman kembali terhadap persepsi yang berkembang, hingga faktor lain yang mempengaruhi perkembangan persepsi itu. Hermeneutika menjadi pendekatan yang tepat untuk mencapai tujuan pemurnian dan melakukan upaya pemahaman kembali terhadap persepsi yang berkembang terhadap Islam. Di sini terlihat fungsi negatif dari ideologi, yaitu (1) melegitimasi kekuasaan dan (2) mendistorsi pengetahuan dan kesadaran. Penulis menggunakan pendekatan hermeneutika dari Paul Ricoeur, karena bagi Ricoeur hermeneutika tidak hanya sebagai cara pemahaman kembali, tapi menekankan fungsinya sebagai kritik ideologi. Temuan penulis bahwa adanya persepsi tentang Islam radikal karena terdapat peran dari gerakan sosial Islam radikal dan diframing oleh media massa.

This paper is based on the author's concern about the growth perceptions of radical Islam in Indonesia. This perception becomes important to be discussed to prevent the justification that radicalism is the true face of Islam. For this reason, there needs to be an effort to purify perceptions that are inherent in Islam. In purifying efforts, it is necessary to re-understand the growth perception, to other factors that influence the growth of that perception. Hermeneutics is the right approach to achieve purification goals and make efforts to re-understand the perceptions that growth towards Islam. Here we see the negative function of ideology, namely (1) legitimizing power and (2) distorting knowledge and awareness. The author uses the hermeneutic approach of Paul Ricoeur, because for Ricoeur hermeneutics is not only a way of re-understanding, but emphasizes its function as an ideological criticism. The authors find that there is a perception of radical Islam because there is a role for radical Islamic social movements and is being framed by the mass media.

"Tulisan ini membahas hubungan yang kompleks antara Islam dan hak-hak reproduksi dan seksual perempuan Indonesia. Khususnya, tulisan ini mengangkat isu-isu penting bagi perempuan Indonesia, seperti hak-hak mereka di dalam perkawinan, akses terhadap keluarga berencana dan pelayanan kesehatan yang memadai, kebutuhan yang mendesak untuk mengurangi tingkat kematian ibu, serta pendidikan reproduksi dan seks bagi perempuan muda. Hubungan antara hukum negara, adat regional and interpretasi lokal terhadap Islam berperan dalam membentuk kehidupan perempuan sehari-hari, serta kemampuan mereka untukmenyadari hak-hak reproduksi dan seksualnya. Oleh karena itu, pemahaman mengenaihubungan antara Islam dan hak-hak reproduksi mencakup kajian tentang cara Al Qur'an ditafsirkan pada tingkat komuniti, keluarga dan identitas pribadi, dan bukan hanya pada tataran argumen teologis para elit. Ruang demokratis yang semakin meluas di Indonesia juga merepresentasikan potensi yang meningkat dari perempuan-perempuan Muslim untuk melibatkan diri secara kritis dan positif baik pada lembaga-lembaga negara maupun keagamaan untuk memperjuangkan pengakuan dan perlindungan hak-hak reproduksi dan seksual mereka dalam kerangka Islam."
