"Mindfulness and one of the roads to it, meditation, have become increasingly popular as a way to promote health and well-being. Research on their beneficial effects has boomed over the past decade. This volume is the first book-length review of this body of research: how the effects of mindfulness practice flow from brain to mind to life. It is aimed specifically at the nonspecialist reader who is looking for a scientific perspective on mindfulness practice. The book reviews how meditation calms the body and what its effects are on brain functioning-how it impacts control over attention, awareness of the body, and the experience of self-and how these in turn leave telltale lasting traces in brain structure. It investigates the resulting effects on mind and life, showing that mindfulness and meditation make people feel less stressed, boost immune function, make people less anxious and less depressed, dampen negative emotions, amplify positive emotions, help regulate emotions, make people less ruminative, take the edges off negative personality traits, strengthen self-concept, and make people more empathic and compassionate. "Fatigue adalah gejala yang paling sering muncul pada anak dengan kanker, fatigue dirasakan sangat mengganggu, mencemaskan, dan dapat melemahkan fungsi fisik, mental, emosional, sehingga apabila tidak dikelola dengan baik dapat menyebabkan penurunan kualitas hidup anak. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi efektivitas terapi mindfulness breathing dan mindfulness body scanning terhadap skor fatigue pada pasien anak dengan kanker. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi experiment dengan pendekatan pre post test with control group, jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini 39 (20 intervensi dan 19 kontrol). Kelompok intervensi diberikan perlakuan terapi mindfulness breathing dan body scanning, kelompok kontrol diberikan perlakuan terapi standar (relaksasi napas dalam). Perlakuan pada kedua kelompok masing-masing diberikan 20 kali latihan (1 kali/hari, 5 kali dalam seminggu) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terapi mindfulness breathing dan mindfulness body scanning lebih efektif menurunkan skor fatigue dibandingkan terapi relaksasi napas dalam (p value 0.001). Variabel confounding usia, jenis kanker dan tipe obat kemoterapi pada penelitian ini tidak ada hubungan dengan perubahan skor fatigue, namun variabel jenis kelamin dan kadar hemoglobin ada hubungan dengan skor fatigue. Terapi mindfulness breathing dan body scanning dapat menjadi intervensi non farmakologi untuk manajemen fatigue karena dapat dengan mudah diterapkan di rumah dan area pelayanan kesehatan.

Fatigue is a symptom that most often appears in children with cancer, fatigue is felt very disturbing, worrying and can weaken physical, mental, emotional functions, so that if not managed it can cause a decrease in the quality of life of children with cancer.The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of mindfulness Breathing and Mindfulness Body scanning therapy on fatigue in pediatric patients with cancer. This study used a quasi experiment design with a pre post test with control group approach, the number of samples was 39 (20 intervention and 19 control). The intervention group was given mindfulness breathing and body scanning therapy, the control group was given standard therapy treatment (deep breath relaxation). The treatment of both groups was given 20 times (1 time / day, 5 times a week) The results showed that mindfulness breathing and mindfulness body scanning  therapy was more effective in reducing fatigue scores than deep breath relaxation therapy (p value 0.001). The confounding variables of gender and hemoglobin levels were associated with fatigue. Mindfulness breathing and body scanning can be a non-pharmacological intervention for fatigue because it can be easily applied at home and health service areas."
