"The Yemeni Manuscript Tradition contributes to the study of the manuscript codex and its role in scholastic culture in Yemen. Ranging in period from Islams first century to the modern period, all the articles in this volume emerge from the close scrutiny of the manuscripts of Yemen. As a group, these studies demonstrate the range and richness of scholarly methods closely tied to the material text, and the importance of cross-pollination in the fields of codicology, textual criticism, and social and intellectual history.

ABSTRACT
Langen Wibawa hereinafter abbreviated as LW manuscript is a literary work that records 28 dances in the Kadipaten Pakualaman. One of the dances documented in LW is Srimpi Gadheg Putri. Srimpi is a sacred dance, not as sacred as the bedhaya dance. A problem arises that there happens to be a discontinuation in the preservation of the Srimpi Gadheg Putri after the resignation of Paku Alam IV so that the repertoire of the dance is now no longer known. In order to reconstruct the form of the Srimpi Gadh g Putri of Pakualaman, two stages of research will be conducted. The first stage is done by editing the critical edition of LW. The second stage is an analysis of dance conducted by using ethnochoreologic approach that includes aspects of history, arts, music, and dance aspecially tata lampah and tata rakit. By this research, it is aimed to be useful in reviving the traditional dance that has long been lost and to result the reconstructed form of the Srimpi Gadheg Putri. From the critical edition of the text, it is found that there are few errors of missing syllable or lacunae. This means that LW is quite clear from errors. Based on the text analysis, it is revealed that LW is a literary work aimed to record dances. Therefore, the text is suitable for the main reference of the dance tradition of Pakualaman. On analysis of LW on pages 68 69 that documents Srimpi Gadheg Putri, three characteristics were found. The first is the kapang kapang majeng procession that is done in two steps. The second is the usage of kandha and lagon narratives indicating the influence of Kasultanan Yogyakarta tradition over Kadipaten Pakualaman traditional dance. The third is the provision of the kandha narrative in form of poem or tembang. "

"Most Javanese manuscript illustrations of narrative poems and (pseudo)-historical chronicles (babad) depict only one part of the natural world: animals. Animals are portrayed in relation to the characters in the text they illustrate. Some illustrated Javanese manuscripts are discussed below in relation to the way in which they illustrate the natural world: these are the fictive narrative poems Serat Selarasa, Serat Panji Jayakusuma, Serat Asmarasupi, Serat Jayalengkara Wulang, and Serat Damar Wulan, and the poetic (pseudo)-historical chronicle Babad Perang Demak. It appears from the illustrations in the manuscripts discussed that in the narrative poems the wayang style is preferred and they depict animals differently from the babad for which the wayang-style is not used and whose illustrations tend to be more “realistic”. The focus in the narrative poems discussed here is on serpents, crocodiles, and elephants, and in the babad on all the animals featured."
