Reece, Erik
""For Erik Reece, life, at last, was good: he was newly married, gainfully employed, living in a creekside cabin in his beloved Kentucky woods. It sounded, as he describes it, "like a country song with a happy ending." And yet he was still haunted by a sense that the world--or, more specifically, his country--could be better. He couldn't ignore his conviction that, in fact, the good ol' USA was in the midst of great social, environmental, and political crises--that for the first time in our history, we were being swept into a future that had no future. Where did we--here, in the land of Jeffersonian optimism and better tomorrows--go wrong? Rather than despair, Reece turned to those who had dared to imagine radically different futures for America. What followed was a giant road trip and research adventure through the sites of America's utopian communities, both historical and contemporary, known and unknown, successful and catastrophic. What he uncovered was not just a series of lost histories and broken visionaries but also a continuing and vital but hidden idealistic tradition in American intellectual history. Utopia Drive is an important and definitive reconstruction of that tradition. It is also, perhaps, a new framework to help us find a genuinely sustainable way forward. "--
"Eric Reece, author of Lost Mountain and An American Gospel, traces the history of the utopian movement in America and lays out a radical re-visioning of the future of utopian societies"--"

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Utopia exist as a part of imagination realm that simulated an ideal space with imperfect reality background.  The idea of utopia as an ideal space is also related to heterotopia, a space used to describe the idea of utopia.  Heterotopia can be seen as the physical form of utopia condition.  Utopia can be visualized through film as a media and can manifest the idea of utopia and heterotopia then translate it into a sequence of images that picture reality in different time and space.  The ability of film as a media to present utopia in a space is connected simulacra.  In media, simulacra often showed as a duplication of the reality and people believe what they see instead of the existing facts, or what it’s called as a fake reality.  As a result, the distinction between the original and the copy starts to blur.  The implementation that came with the result is, the viewer could see the space in film as a reality.  Because of the implementation, the purpose of this study is to capture the concept of utopia and heterotopia through the simulation and its relation to the original and the copy.  This study also shows how the media could reflect the idea of utopia in space and heterotopia inside simulacra.  This research leads to how The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe could reflect the idea of utopia within it spaces and how it copies the reality in real world and turns it into a simulation.

"ABSTRAK
As a response to Peter Jackson s call for a Southeast Asian Area Studies beyond Anglo America, this paper argues that the achievement of this salient objective hinges on an understanding of the idea of positionality and what it entails. Drawing from reflections from Filipino scholars, positionality can be understood not merely as one determination through geographic location or self knowledge of ones
condition within the politics of knowledge production rather, it is the power and opportunity to claim a place from which one understands reality in ones own terms, and the capacity to effect influence within her intellectual domain. In redefining positionality as such, one realizes that crucial to establishing Southeast Asian Area studies beyond Anglo America is acknowledging the importance of the vernacular in the
production and circulation of knowledge, as well as the constant danger of English as the global lingua franca, established in the guise of an advocacy that resolves unevenness by providing equal opportunity for all intellectuals to gain global prominence. This paper argues that, instead of trying to eradicate unevenness, one can acknowledge it as the condition of being located in a place and as a privilegedposition to think and create beyond the shadow of Anglo American theory."
