"Sustainability remains one of the major issues in tourism today. Concerns over climate and environmental change, the fallout from the global economic and financial crisis, and the seeming failure to meeting UN Millennium development goals have only reinforced the need for more sustainable approaches to tourism, however they be defined. Given the centrality of sustainability in tourism curricula, policies, research and practice it is therefore appropriate to prepare a state of the art handbook on the relationship between tourism and sustainability. This timely Handbook of Tourism and Sustainability is developed from specifically commissioned original contributions from recognised authors in the field, providing a systematic guide to the current state of knowledge on this area. It is interdisciplinary in coverage and international in scope through its authorship and content. The volume commences with an assessment of tourism's global environmental, e.g. climate, emissions, energy use, biodiversity, water use, land use, and socio-economic effects, e.g. economic impacts, employment and livelihoods, culture. This then provides the context for the following sections that describe the main theoretical frameworks and constructs that inform tourism and sustainability, management tools and approaches, and the approaches used in different tourism and travel industry sectors. The book concludes by examining emerging and future concerns in tourism and sustainability such as peak-oil, post-carbon tourism, green economy and transition tourism"

"The Routledge International Handbook of Social Development, Social Work, and the Sustainable Development Goals answers the question: What is the contribution of social development and social work to the Sustainable Development Goals? The success of these goals requires implementation, and each of the 17 objectives for sustainable social progress have a social dimension. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), like the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) before them, were born of a larger social development movement which over the last 25 years has become increasingly mainstream in the fields of international development, sustainability, and social work. These practitioners are essential to the implementation of the SDGs. This handbook examines how the SDGs are being implemented in diverse contexts.
No previous work has surveyed social development and social work’s contribution to the SDGs nor represented voices from the Global South on the SDGs. This book broadens the current literature by focusing on key sites throughout the Global South and featuring underrepresented voices from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. These regions are vitally important to assessing the SDGs, as this is where innovative social development projects are occurring, and where social workers are playing a leading role in achieving the SDGs. The book is divided into eight parts:
• Context of Social Development, Social Work, and the SDGs
• Perspectives on the SDGs
• Case Studies on Engagement with the SDG Agenda
• Case Studies on Ending Poverty
• Case Studies on Health and Well-Being
• Case Studies on Gender Equality
• Case Studies on Climate and Sustainability
• Case Studies on Governance, Peace, and Justice
It comprises 35 newly written chapters by 74 authors. It will be of interest to a broad interdisciplinary audience of scholars, educators, and students in the fields of social development, social welfare, social work, social policy, human rights, international relations, political science, international affairs, sustainability, community development, area studies, and development studies."

Sustainability has become a growing topic of discussion throughout the modern world as we face the challenges of climate change. This undergraduate thesis aims to explore a sustainable architectural intervention, that seeks to provide answers to this problem. Such solution aims to offer a wholistic approach, in the minimization of energy consumption, through spatial and research-based contextual design, for the built environment, within a community (Bowen Hills, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia). Qualitative and quantitative methods are used for research. “Eden” delivers an architectural engagement within the climate change discourse, by developing a solution in the form of a mixed-use, midrise, urban garden, inspired by the biblical garden of Eden. Through fostering sustainable development, this architectural proposition solves contextual problems within the community as well."

"The planning, design, management and marketing of experiences for tourism markets is a major challenge for tourism destinations and providers in a globalized and highly competitive market. This book bridges the gap in contemporary literature by carefully examining the management and marketing of tourism experiences. It has the following specific objectives: first to analyse the main issues and challenges related to tourism experience management and marketing; second, to present and discuss adequate analytical frameworks and tools; third to explore the adoption and implementation of approaches to managing and marketing experiences in various tourism contexts and industries; and finally to present and discuss case studies illustrating approaches adopted, methods implemented and best practices in addressing related issues. The book concludes by providing strategic management and marketing implications and recommendations for tourism businesses and destinations to enable them to successfully create, manage, market and evaluate tourism experiences.

Labuan Bajo is a new destination that offers the iconic endemic Komodo dragons and world-class marine tourism. The problem is that the management of biodiversity tourism still needs to be integrated and considered carrying capacity. The objective is to analyze environmental, social, and economic conditions and the carrying capacity of Labuan Bajo tourism to develop a multi-stakeholder collaboration integration model for sustainable tourism. Mixed methods are used. The Cifuentes method and descriptive spatial analysis evaluate the tourism carrying capacity as the basis for developing the System Dynamics model. The research results show that stakeholders consider Labuan Bajo tourism sustainable for social and economic aspects and moderately sustainable for environmental aspects, and it also remained within its carrying capacity. This study concludes that the multistakeholder collaboration integration model for sustainable tourism is a systemic paradigm that considers carrying capacity as a desired capacity policy with crosssectoral involvement to achieve social, economic and environmental sustainability."
